This video shows a very quick, very easy hack to turn your dewalt tstak organizer into a clear lid tool case. These are great, but not to be confused with the Tough System cases.
My review can be summed up in one word: value. These tstak cases get the job done cheap, and allowed me to build a rack system with the spare parts and bins.

Love the sliding shelf/drawer bit.... side note: there is even more storage space underneath the yellow tubs!
This was a great video, but every one should be aware that the CURRENT DeWalt DWST17805 (same part number) has been completely redesigned with a non-removeable insert, and ten yellow boxes inside. If you have the old style, (7 yellow boxes inside,) this video is a great hack.
One man's 26 bucks is another man's forty quid. We get fleeced for this sort of thing in the UK. The 'cup' system is limiting- DeWalt don't make any long enough to take screwdrivers, vernier gauges, combination squares, chisels etc. So I repurposed one using layers of corrugated plastic sheet to make one of these work for measuring & marking and commonly used small tools. It's paid for itself in time savings. You'll find the insert bins (cups as DeWalt call them) are interchangeable with the Stanley FatMax ones.
This is a great tip for storage and usability! not to mention the inside plastic can be re-purposed for a little sci fi wall art ;)
Great idea!!!
They work great as office organisers too, the whole system I have as a r rolling office system for work.
Love the quality of the tstak system .... biggest problem is playing toolbox Jenga when the tools I want are in the bottom of the stack or the flip lid case is at the bottom..... having to take off top layers of boxes ... temporarily stacking them somewhere else until you get the one you want. They do a stacking rack for easy access for the toughbox but not tstak
Great Idea Brother.
Brilliant!
Excellent. Thanks.
Nice job Kev!Very cool idea, I like it!! I was wondering if you tried (after the hack) to stack multiple cases on top of each (thinking of stacking around 6 to 8 of them) other with tools inside and clipped to know if the lids are still holding strong without the frame of the bins and the bins? Thanks for sharing the hack by the way!
Clever.
Those plastic bins are great for parts and bits when build or rebuilding things so you don't lose anything.
They also make Craftsman (Lowes,) which tends to be exactly the same things, just a little less expensive. In other brands that are less expensive such as Hart (Walmart) and Husky (Home Depot.)
Great work! It can be very frustrating when you can't see your tools stored away or small parts for that matter. I like open drawers or clear drawings so I can see the pieces. I honestly can't keep track of how many times I found stuff I collected years ago and forgot about.
When I finally took the time to get my space organized this year, I had the same discovery. Loads of supplies and hardware that I've forgotten about. I feel you man.
kevdeo by the way, I’m enjoying these tool tips and equipment video. I always like to see what other makers use and what works for them. Keep up the good work.
I am from Brazil! Congrats for vídeo!
can you swap lids with deeper storage box?
Can they be used on the 2.0 system ?
Does this work with the DEWALT DWST1-71194 as well?
Keep a couple bins in place to hold bits, blades, expendibles, adapters, etc.
I have a question, what will happen if I sand a pvc figure say to tone down some seamlines? I know it'll probably chip the paint but does it affect the sculpt?
If you were looking to clean up a skinny seam line, you can actually scrape it perpendicularly with an X-Acto for minimal impact. There is usually a little cleanup afterward to maintain all of the sculpt details, then some paint touchups. But, very doable!
I just got the latest version and there is NO INNER LINER. Also, when you remove the inner parts containers their no longer are ‘secret’ open areas below the containers, just a flat bottom surface. But they did add yellow removable long containers along the upper sides. Hi hum.
You can still get this model on Amazon for the same price if you're looking fyi
What are the measurements of the yellow compartments?
Solid idea. Now I need to hack into one of these. Quick question. What mannequin heads do you use for your projects? I noticed the two black ones in the background.
I'm all over the place when it comes to mannequins, depending on the project. Those two are just hollow injection molded ones from Amazon.
@@kevdeovideo Appreciate the reply. Thanks
I like the idea of these for some nice storage shelves. But I kinda wish kobalt made a set. Not a fan boy or anything kobalt is just cheaper at the local lowes and I happen to like the blue over the yellow.
I get that. To each his own man!
If you happen to have a Home Depot near by, you might look into the Husky 10-bin Organizer (Model #235587). They have an internal size of 16.75L x 9.7.5W x 3.5H and at my local HD they are only $10 each. Plus you have 10 storage bins you can make some drawers to hold, storage rack, etc.
Thanks for the tips and Great improv, but what’s up with the Mickey Mouse Tape Measure. Lol, good stuff thanks!
haaaa, my big ones are on my other bench!
2x2 and 2x6 rack
If you ever wanted to put those things back in this clear case would it go back in for once it's out it's out please comment back thank you very much for this video
Sorry for the long delay in response. Yes, they can go back in. Just be gentle pulling them out and you'll be fine.
😎
I believe this doesn't work anymore. The new Dewalt Tstak Clear Organizer has reduced height/depth - about an inch shorter. So, storing a big tool is much harder. The part number is still the same DWST17805.
Is there anyway to switch the lids, too?
I haven’t tried that, but it’s a good idea. I’ll have to look into it.
you can pull the pin out of the hing and swap it with other cases.
Sooo you separated the thing
Why would they waste so much space with those inserts?
It's hard to believe how much wasted space there is in the organizer as is!
It looks like you could store bits upright in the sides; only up to 4 inch ones though.
You do know each case has a label so u can list what’s in it yeah ? That’s what I’ve done ? Don’t need a clear lid 😊👍🏻
Did that for years. Not the same when it comes to accessories, spare parts, batteriers chargers etc.
Tool Hack. Subbed on thise words alone. Favourite deuce words ever. Except for Big B$&*s hehe
"only 26 bucks" yeah in the USA - meanwhile in the UK they are.... £40 or $54.17 USD - TWICE the price.
죽이네
버렸는데 모아야겠다는...
Only 26 bucks for a plactic case….
no need to open a case to see whats worth stealing top job.
Wouldn’t call it a hack 😂
