Thanks for this! Perfect! I lead a group of gardeners who haven't worn makeup since we had kids - 20 years ago! I gave them a starter anti-aging skincare kit at the end of summer season. These will be great for their holiday gifts!
@@earthangelbaby_ We are a community garden primarily growing organic vegetables for 12 local food banks. This year we’ve given them 11,000 pounds of veggies so far. Two years ago, the dementia daycare across the parking lot asked if we would grow flowers. They use them in weekly flower therapy sessions, making bouquets for shuts-ins getting meal delivery, and people in the hospital and rehab. It gives participants a sense of worth (no one else asks them, “Can you help?”), purpose, and meaning to their life. It’s non-verbal, so they aren’t groping for words. It is creative, multi-sensory, and satisfying. I took on the request, and thank goodness three other women joined me - we process approx 250 flowers a week from May to October.
Mary Oseguera I bet your garden is gorgeous! Gardeners tend to be giving, helpful people! It's fun to compare notes and share plants. I learned the most through a course offered through the county Extension Office, the Master Gardener Certification program. Every state has one. Once you complete it, you give 40 hours of annual service to your community to maintain your certificate. Some people teach public classes, others write newspaper articles or answer questions at a Farmer's Market booth. I didn't even know my town had EIGHT community gardens that needed gardeners for charities until I took the course. Adult friendships can be hard to make, but the MG program introduced me to some truly lovely people.
I absolutely love this and the way you are explaining everything Emily. I wouldn't consider myself a beginner but I always watch every single one of videos, love your no drama, no circus just chill content
Catrice HD foundation is my holy grail foundation. I’m old school and use my fingers to apply it. I squeeze three or four drops out onto my fingers and blend away. I get great coverage and it works beautifully on mature skin.
I have not tried the Catrice version but I'm on my second bottle of NYX Total Control Drop foundation and love it, I don't really want a ton of coverage just want some of my redness in the T‐zone evened out without having to put a ton of concealer around my nose.
The Wet n Wild trios/quads and the old Maybelline quads that all have had instructions imprinted on the shadows helped me out so much when I was first getting into more “complicated” eye looks. Sure, one can do whatever look they like, but I learned the basics and traditional placements because of those imprints!
This is why you’re one of the best UA-camrs ever! I have so much makeup and still enjoy watching your starter tip videos. You make it so much less intimidating and don’t talk down to people who may be new. Thank you!
Just wanna let you know, Emily how much you exude positivity and humility through each of your videos and it’s even evident on your comments section the kind of people who follow you are just as lovely as you are!
Walking on eggshells (back when it was a trio) was my very first eyeshadow ever when I turned 15. I remember taking a walk to Walgreens with my mom, getting mascara and that eyeshadow and a lipstick.
I got the ELF Makeup Mist & Set last time Emily recommended it and I have to say it's the best thing I've ever done for my makeup! I have very dry skin so I struggle a lot with makeup looking powdery but using this it all just melts in like magic, it genuinely solved a problem I'd been having for years (no other spray I'd tried had helped). Highly recommend and thank you Emily for bringing it into my life! 👍🙏💖

I have been a subscriber for a while now. I just would like to say that this "Starter Kit" video was so wonderful. I like to watch a Starter video to take a few moments and see if I need to go back to basics a bit. I just wanted to say thank you.❤
I love watching your videos to escape from reality for a few minutes . You help me with my stress and my depression. I love how in depth you explain the products ! I just love love everything about your videos! God bless you and your family!
As a gal who has loved makeup for 20+ years and has a pretty decent, much loved collection, I found this video extremely well done and easy to follow, with some really great picks and, of course, fun to watch! You’re the best, Emily...I love your love of makeup and desire to help others enjoy and love it, too!! 💜
Yay a 38 minute video from my favorite beauty creator! Thank you girl your awesome ❣️😊 always putting out the best content I appreciate that especially in these times while I’m not working and have little joy or things to look forward to
I like how this is a proper old school UA-cam tutorial. Not everyone has been watching these types of videos for over a decade. Plus it's always interesting to hear how and why people do certain makeup steps. Emily was the first UA-camr I ever watched and I've been hooked ever since.
This is such a fun video. I’m going to have my niece watch it. She’s getting into makeup but wants everything. I keep trying to tell her to start with the basics but build from there. Thank you for helping me get through to her 🤣 She wants my collection! I told her it takes years to get the amount of makeup I have 😂😂🤣 I’m not parting with my makeup! Love you and your family
I've worn makeup for 50 years and look decent, but there are so many new techniques that I had not heard of. I so enjoy watching and listening to you. I love how thoroughly you break down and explain things. Thank you so much for your help.
hey emily! i love your videos and have been watching for years and years. you are one of the first people i ever watched when i was super young and getting into makeup for the first time. just a note, be careful with touching the dropper to your face with the foundation. it can pick up bacteria from your face that then gets put into the product and can make it go bad more quickly. love your videos and you’re a great makeup teacher 💕
Happy Birthday to Bubba Rhett! It's such a joy to watch your beautiful little family grow up, especially since I'm in semi-empty nest mode. My son is 22 and my daughter is 20, both taking online college classes during the Pandemic. We're all going to a cider mill this Saturday and I'm so excited for us to have family time.
Would you do a beginner kit for teenager? Looking for holiday stocking stuffers for our daughter. Tools would be great too! Thank you, love everything about your channel!
I gotta say.... your last video - you used the Double Wear Foundation & I couldn’t BELIEVE how BEAUTIFUL, FLAWLESS & deliciously DEWY your skin looked! I literally said out loud, “WOW!” Just thought it was worth mentioning Lol. 😊💚
I bought it recently and it separated like crazy while wearing a mask at a wedding. Then I tried it again but it got blotchy on my forehead and cheeks I'm not sure why. It looked great on her but I'm not sure why it looked weird on me.
This is awesome! You are a wonderful teacher! I love it! This is exactly the kind of video I was looking for when I decided to get back into makeup after not wearing it for many years. I wish I had this then! What a great video! 💕
Even though I've been watching your videos for literal years, and my makeup use has gone WAY WAY down in the last five years, I still LOVE to see these kinds of videos. They are where I get most of my recommendations when I need to replace an item, and they show that you're really keeping up with the whole cosmetics industry, not just who is all over instagram. You've always been a "by the people, for the people" kind of creator and I LOVE it. There is no one I trust more!
That Catrice HD is my "holy grail." It's one of the only matte foundations that looks awesome on my dry skin type. I love it on its own, but also love mixing it with other foundations. I haven't even found a high end foundation I love more, and I've tried A LOT. It also wears pretty well under a mask!
For inexpensive fabulous brushes i recommend the Shop Miss A ones that come in the faux leather tube holder. Some of them are definite dupes for Sigma brushes, and the rest are fabulous! Thanks for another great video, Emily💕🧡
@@andreac5724 if it’s the tube I have it looked like croc or a textured leather the one I got from there. They do have good quality brushes. You don’t have to pay $125 and up for some dang good brushes.
@andrea c. Also look into Wet-N-Wild brush sets or Elf has sets of brushes especially around the holidays at Walgreens in particular which are of high quality. Emily talks all the time about ELF brushes and uses the ELF ones more I believe in every video. Sometimes you can catch a 50% sale around November when they put their Christmas goodies out. I got a FANTASTIC $50 brush set from WNW for &25 one year about 10 excellent useable brushes. Same goes for ELF some sets as low as $10! Look at ELF’s website. I just saw some sets that were reasonably priced as is. You can’t beat that! Also sigma has sales on the brushes Emily uses that go on sale quite frequently. I have signed up to be notified by message on my phone when they are having brush sales. In fact I did just get a message from Sigma recently. Also Ulta has gifts sets too on brushes. The Real Techniques line of brushes that comes in stocking stuffer size or their regular line size and especially THEIR version of the “beauty blender” that’s orange is all I use. I am not spending $20 for the actual “beauty blender” sponge. I’ve had great luck with the orange one that around the Holidays, even comes with a case for travel to prevent mold & protect it. Shop MissA also has good brushes for a couple of dollars. I’ve found generic brush sets at like 5 below that I basically “fell into” that weren’t half bad. I’m basically a brush junkie and collect from all brands but ELF, WNW, and Real Techniques are my go to staples! Good luck hunting. There are some real drugstore gems and dupes for high end brushes out there. Best Wishes, Andrea! ❤️💜💄👄
WOW. Your tips on eyeliner and mascara application are incredible!! I’m like *leaning* into my iPad to see what you’re doing up close! LOL. I can really see how these suggestions and products will help me with my 64-yr-old, super small eyes with somewhat droopy lids. The use of a small mirror, how you hold the mirror, the angling of things, positioning of elbow on the table… all of that stuff is so helpful! I had virtually given up on makeup application out of frustration. But this gives me renewed hope that I can be successful! Thank you!
The thing I love about your beginner picks is that you recommend great products that have beginner-level ease to them. A lot of recommendations I see for beginners reference how a product is just "meh", so it's not a product for those that are more experienced and have come to expect a certain standard from their makeup. Beginners deserve great makeup products too, and I love that that philosophy is always apparent in your videos 😊
You’re the one who got me hooked on the elf brow pencil 🙌🏼 Every pencil is either too warm or too dark for me (I have dark brows but light to med hair) but the taupe shade is the perfect neutral shade that matches my brows to my hair 💪🏼🏆
From one Em to another, your videos are so incredible. This video was so brilliantly done. The way you explain things, such as application techniques is so useful and you do it without making people feel dumb. You are so thorough, so patient, real and kind! I really enjoy your content and thank you very much for videos like this!

Hi Emily, love your channel, I’ve been watching since “apartment-doing the news” days. You used to keep a lot of your brushes in a pampered chef carousel. Do you still have that out on your makeup table? Or have you sorted down to other options in brush storage/ use? Thank you for doing your videos. I learn a ton and never miss a video.

Girlfriend i am 47 amd i still love me a sponge tipped applicator...i use blending brushes for the crease and above and put on shimmers with my sponge tip and get precise application...cant live without them!!
Right? I can’t use liquid liners- I always make the line too thick for my hooded eyes or uneven from one eye to the other. I use gel or pencil so I can blend it out if (when) I need to smooth out any flubs!
Emily, I've been watching you since I was a teenager (now 23) and I purchased "Walking on Egg Shells" because of you as some of my first "big girl makeup". So it holds up! Thank you for making consistently wonderful content. Such a joy to see your family grow!

I have been a makeup lover for the past 3 years and have learned so many tips from this video! I love the elf instant lift! I do agree about the elf setting mist for sure! My school’s bookstore has a standee of older elf makeup, and I picked up the refill of my brow pencil, the setting spray which I had tried in the past and liked, and the lip oil in the color pink kiss.
I love that you can do super extreme looks but still do videos like this! You are such a gem to the youtube beauty world ♥️ I'm not a beginner but still very much enjoyed the video and the look you created!
Thank you so much! I needed ideas for my teenage daughter for Christmas. Might use some of these for myself, too! Except Lash Paradise... I've already tried and it didn't work for me... dry and clumpy. My fave is Bambi Eye, but I think of Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume as foolproof and beginner friendly.
List of things in this video that Emily made me buy it because raves about it so much: Basic Bae - it is my in my rotation of eye pallets and my new go to. Everything you need, it’s got light, medium, deeper shades, and the shimmers not glitters. And the W&W walking on egg shells! Elf instant eye lift brown pencil, Milani eye shadow primer. Elf brushes. Lash paradise. And more, this was just in this video 😘
Yes to the profusion palettes video! And don’t stop with the 10 pan ones show us all of them! Just bought the tweezerman curler. Oh my goodness! What a difference! It pulls my lashes barely at all, unlike every other one I have used! The shape and size really does make a huge difference!!
Love the tutorials! Never know when some tidbit will pop out that's new or has more meaning with my own experiences. Just sending love to and gratefulness for you. ♡
I think this video is so good for beginners and can I say I'm so happy you used Walking on Eyeshells. This is still my weekend jeans and tee shirt look. Love that mini pallet.
Video idea: a week of makeup looks using the sort of multi task face palettes like the California in a box palette you mention here. It’d be a good way to show off some super easy multi tasker looks!
Some really great tips in this video. I LOVED all your tips and explanations. I am not in need of a starter kit, but I knew you wouldn’t disappoint in the instruction, tips and tricks. This is where you really shine. I love your content!
Dear Emily, I’m not new to makeup but I’m so glad I watched this video. I picked up some new application “tricks” I can incorporate into my makeup routine. I use mostly higher-end makeup but sometimes there is an “emergency” and I will have to run to the drugstore. It was great to get some solid drugstore brand recommendations for those times, or even just to switch things up a bit. I’m definitely subscribing to your channel. You are so kind, funny, and engaging! I hope you have the Happiest of Holidays! Judith

@@squeesplort that's amazing!! i do backyard gardening myself, and always get excited when i meet another gardener.
Is it a matte finish for the most part?
The Wet n Wild trios/quads and the old Maybelline quads that all have had instructions imprinted on the shadows helped me out so much when I was first getting into more “complicated” eye looks. Sure, one can do whatever look they like, but I learned the basics and traditional placements because of those imprints!
Yes! Please do the $5.00 Profusion palettes! I love Profusion eyeshadows! Please devote some videos to Profusion!
Please do a profusion palette video! I love their 5 dollar neutral palettes
Also, Emily's The Needs palette is a beginner's best friend and is on sale 🥳
Wooo! 38 minute video!!
I would love a video on all the things you keep in your reach, like on your makeup tables and in your purse 💚
What a lovely comment 💛💄
Walking on eggshells (back when it was a trio) was my very first eyeshadow ever when I turned 15. I remember taking a walk to Walgreens with my mom, getting mascara and that eyeshadow and a lipstick.
Me just killing time until the Emily Awards starts in two months. 😳
I absolutely love your channel. There's something about your voice that makes me calm like a Motherly sense to me. It's hard to explain but non of the less I love your channel and your you never stop making them 🥰
Anytime I receive a notification on your videos, it makes my day!! You are such a fresh breathe of air and I love your personality, your true/honest reviews and love for all makeup. Can you please do another collab with makeup revolution or any company?! Loved your Wants and Needs palette!! Thank you for all you do and for always being positive! Sending you blessings & love from Los Angeles, California 💜
I have been a subscriber for a while now. I just would like to say that this "Starter Kit" video was so wonderful. I like to watch a Starter video to take a few moments and see if I need to go back to basics a bit. I just wanted to say thank you.❤
emily i'm surprised you didn't mention the needs pallet
I love watching your videos to escape from reality for a few minutes . You help me with my stress and my depression. I love how in depth you explain the products ! I just love love everything about your videos! God bless you and your family!
As a gal who has loved makeup for 20+ years and has a pretty decent, much loved collection, I found this video extremely well done and easy to follow, with some really great picks and, of course, fun to watch! You’re the best, Emily...I love your love of makeup and desire to help others enjoy and love it, too!! 💜
Yay a 38 minute video from my favorite beauty creator! Thank you girl your awesome ❣️😊 always putting out the best content I appreciate that especially in these times while I’m not working and have little joy or things to look forward to
OOOH YESSS! Yes! I LOVE when she uploads longer vids too! 👍💚👏👏👏😊
Nobody does it like you Emily! Your care, diligence and knowledge of makeup is unsurpassed!!
Yeah. Why not put it on a little pan or just the back of your hand?
Perfect! My little sister is about to turn 15 and I want to give her some basics in case she wants to start using them!
What color is the tube? Thanks for the info 😊
@@andreac5724 if it’s the tube I have it looked like croc or a textured leather the one I got from there. They do have good quality brushes. You don’t have to pay $125 and up for some dang good brushes.
@@andreac5724 i think they have it in black too, but I got it in pink.
Old school tutorial and I loved it. Emily has a wonderful way of explaining the process. She’s fantastic x
I love that you do this , beginners dont have a age....I'm in my 50s and I learned something 💛💛
You’re the one who got me hooked on the elf brow pencil 🙌🏼 Every pencil is either too warm or too dark for me (I have dark brows but light to med hair) but the taupe shade is the perfect neutral shade that matches my brows to my hair 💪🏼🏆
Absolutely fantastic instructional video - love your calm voice and giving reasons for your choices. Thanks Emily!
Excellent video, Emily! Nothing goes on my lids before eye primer. Happy birthday to Rhett. Many blessings, prayers, and love..MaryEllen
From one Em to another, your videos are so incredible. This video was so brilliantly done. The way you explain things, such as application techniques is so useful and you do it without making people feel dumb. You are so thorough, so patient, real and kind! I really enjoy your content and thank you very much for videos like this!
I'm not a beginner but watched anyway as a reminder of how generous you are with your time, tips, and talent!
Do I see the book on the vanity behind you??? Can’t wait to see your review on it. Yes would like to see the Profusion palette review. Love that brand for eye shadows.
I spied "The Book" also! Mine is on its way to me. I love her review on it every year. I would love to see several videos with eye looks on it this year.
Knowing Emily soo well, I pretty much could cite these products before even watching the vid! You've taught us well Em, love you
Thank you Emliy, it´s 3 am I was having a lot of anxiety, and just watching your video helped me calm down enough to go to sleep, good night!
Emily please do the video on the profusion palettes! And thank you for using the Profusion brushes once again on your channel. I picked them up after you spoke about when they first came out. I love that you mentioned them again!! They are great!!
Yes! Please do a video on the Profusion palettes!
You remind me of Bob Ross. So calming, informative, friendly. Just lovely! Thanks friend! 💗
I love the elf new classics palette. It’s so easy and foolproof.
Love this video! No I'm not a beginner, I have been doing my makeup since I was 12 y/o but as a mom of a toddler I love quick, easy makeup suggestions. Love you Emily 💜💜💜 Sending virtual hugs from GA
Those are my go to foundations, drugstore or high end. I like to mix them for the perfect glow and coverage. The hydroboost is also one of my favorite concealers. I’m combo, but have dry under eyes. Couldn’t have picked a better base.
This is SUCH a helpful video-easy to follow and upbeat to watch. Someone who’s never put on makeup could follow this easily to achieve a lovely look and yet there are also valuable tips for avid makeup lovers to refine and advance our techniques. Thanks so much Em!
Profusion brushes with the contoured matte black handles are my current favorites. Also like EcoTools and my Makeup Geek brushes.
Girlfriend i am 47 amd i still love me a sponge tipped applicator...i use blending brushes for the crease and above and put on shimmers with my sponge tip and get precise application...cant live without them!!
5 years later and I still haven’t graduated to winged eyeliner.
Same lol
Right? I can’t use liquid liners- I always make the line too thick for my hooded eyes or uneven from one eye to the other. I use gel or pencil so I can blend it out if (when) I need to smooth out any flubs!
12 years later and I'm still not really there😅🙈
@@HidaRafi liquid eyeliner is an art form. It can smell fear
Keep practicing what wing videos.
Emily, I've been watching you since I was a teenager (now 23) and I purchased "Walking on Egg Shells" because of you as some of my first "big girl makeup". So it holds up! Thank you for making consistently wonderful content. Such a joy to see your family grow!
Late to comment, but walking on eggshells in all of its formats is still in my rotation to this day and I’m around the same age lol. I grab for it all the time! It is truly amazing.
That Catrice palette has very much the same vibe as the Smashbox Cali Contour-which I love.
Oh my goodness ... I've been watching so many make-up tutorials recently ... trying to learn how to apply make-up again in my old age of 56. You are BY FAR the VERY BEST instructor and just a wonderful person to watch and listen to. Thank you for making videos! =)
What a great tutorial for basic makeup! You are a godsend Emily, love all your tips, I watch your videos over and over if I am puzzled about anything, which is not hard for 66 yr old!
XXX Deborah from OZ
I’m a veteran to ur channel Emily 💖 all your videos are great but this one was fantastic going back to the starter days . Fun fun.. Love the teaching videos, beginners and in the now so great, hope to see more like these.. 💖✌🏼☀️💋
Is the Instant Lift an eye moisturizer or something else? I’m in my 60s, so could always use a lift on my face!!
@@LoveABun it is an eyebrow pencil from elf it is around $2 or $3 and is in white packaging 😃
I love that you can do super extreme looks but still do videos like this! You are such a gem to the youtube beauty world ♥️ I'm not a beginner but still very much enjoyed the video and the look you created!
Thank god for people like Emily on you tube she brings the joy of make up with no drama just geniue wonderful advice!!
I have watched and rewatched this video. I really appreciate how in depth and thoughtful your videos and recommendations are!
I’ve come back to this video many times. It’s so educational. From someone who doesn’t wear makeup often I need reminders. Lol. Love it!!
Dear Emily,
I’m not new to makeup but I’m so glad I watched this video.
Judith
You shared so many of my favs! Pro Glow! RT Brushes, And walking on eggshells is my goto most used eye shadow of all time. About to purchase for the third time! Loved this!
