"You Guys Are Always On My Mind"... Awww Seph 💖🙏💕
    How so very sweet 💛🍯💛
What an absolutely lovely message to sneak in... I see you Seph, I see you 😄
Truth time: When you haven't uploaded videos in more than 2 days I 🎶Say A Little Prayer🎶 for you just throwing out there into the Universe at large my hopes that you are okay and if you are not then my hopes you will be okay soon. You know I just think that's a good way of putting out positive vibes & well wishes out there. Whether there is anything actually to it, I don't know.
But I like to think that there is. It's a nice thought & it doesn't cost anyone anything to do & too it takes up only a minute or so of your time to do that.
I'm not preaching or anything. It's just 🎶Something🎶 I do.
So you could say Seph that you are missed in your absence and that you are indeed on the minds of others of you have been gone too long.
Right, I know, enough of the mushy stuff. Onwards & upwards: I'm going to give song info here instead of recording session info.
Because reading the comments some are mistaken in their assumption that Willie Nelson wrote it. He did not. Nor was he even the first one to record it.
Brenda Lee was actually the first one to record "Always On My Mind" followed by Gwen McCrae who recorded it as "You Were Always On My Mind".
What is funny is, this song was written by a guy for all guys whose jobs took them from home a lot and whose wives were at times unhappy with them being gone a lot. Yet the first two people to record this song were women singers.
    I find that interesting.
As for whether Elvis recorded this with Priscilla in mind or not is not confirmed. There is no way to prove or disprove that and too the main writer of the song said that it was just rumor that this song was written for Elvis because he was going through a break up (with his wife). It was not.
    Read On Below:
Always on My Mind" is a ballad written by Wayne Carson, Johnny Christopher, and Mark James, first recorded by Brenda Lee and first released by Gwen McCrae (as "You Were Always on My Mind") in March 1972. Lee's version was released three months later in June 1972. The song has been a crossover hit, charting in both the country and western and pop categories. Elvis Presley's recording was the first commercially successful version of the song.
All Music lists more than 300 recorded releases of the song in versions by dozens of performers. While Lee's version reached no. 45 on the US country chart in 1972, other performers reached the Top 20 on the country and/or pop charts in the United States and elsewhere with their own versions: Elvis Presley (1972, US country; UK pop Top Ten); John Wesley Ryles (1979, US country) and Willie Nelson's Grammy Award-winning version (1982, US/Canada country number one; US/Canada pop Top Ten); and the Pet Shop Boys' 1987 hi-NRG/synth-pop interpretation (UK number one; US Top Ten).
Always on My Mind" saw no completion until late 1971. Songwriter-guitarist Wayne Carson had about two verses done with the working title "You Were Always on My Mind". He had been occupied in Memphis on a project that required him to stay ten days longer, and he phoned his wife in Springfield, Missouri, to apologize for the delay. She was angry, and he replied: "Well, I know I’ve been gone a lot, but I’ve been thinking about you all the time." This idea struck him as potential song material, and he quickly ended the call so he could capture it on paper. He brought the song back to the recording studio of Chips Moman and worked on it for a few days, but it did not gel. Carson asked for help from his colleague Johnny Christopher (the two had already written the hit song "No Love at All" in 1970) and they composed more of it in Moman's office. Feeling stuck, they appealed for assistance from songwriter Mark James who was walking through the studio. James was exhausted from non-stop music projects, but he ran through the song with Carson and Christopher. By the fourth run-through, the song was finished.
Music critic Robert Hilburn said that it was commonly thought in Nashville and Memphis that Elvis Presley's marital troubles were the inspiration of the song, and that it was tailored to fit his musical style. Fueling this conjecture was the fact that James had already written a hit song "Suspicious Minds" for Presley. Carson responded that the song was not written for Presley but for every man. He said that it "was one long apology. It’s sort of like all guys who screw up and would love nothing better than to pick up the phone and call their wives and say, 'Listen, honey, I could have done better, but I want you to know that you were always on my mind.'"
recorded "Always on My Mind" on March 29, 1972, a few weeks after his February separation from his wife, Priscilla. The song was popular and critically appreciated and is considered one of Presley's standout songs of the 1970s. The song was released as the B-side of the "Separate Ways" single, which was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales in excess of one million units. It was listed as a double A-side, reaching number 16 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart in November 1972. In the United Kingdom, "Always on My Mind" (as the A-side) reached the Top Ten in January 1973. In 2013 the recording ranked number one in a poll conducted by ITV, "The Nation's Favourite Elvis Songs", just ahead of "Suspicious Minds" and "Can't Help Falling in Love".

I'm not sure if it's this song or Separate Ways, but Jerry S. tells in a video interview somewhere that Elvis kept listening to the song over and over in the recording booth and then said something to the effect "Are you guys trying to kill me" or something. I'll have to go find the clip. Also, I was reading some old love letters from a boyfriend and in one of the letters he referenced this song to me (it was during college separation) but the Willie Nelson version! I cracked up because I was like oh no I never knew Elvis did it before Willie.

This had the same effect on you as it had on the people who originally heard it in 1972. They were still adjusting to how much Elvis had done in five short years: made a tv ‘comeback’; did a residency in Vegas; went back to touring; made concert movies about those - and then he came out with several new big hits in a row with this amazing new band, featuring the Stamps Quartet. It was all pretty mind blowing. We had no idea he was also about to break all records by playing a live worldwide satellite concert. Can’t wait til you actually see these songs from the movies!

Elvis always seemed to keep getting better and better all the time. That's why he was the King of music. Another song that should have been #1. And you know what's always upset me about this? That Willie Nelson took it 5 years after Elvis' death, and re-did it at a much slower country style version and had a huge #1 for sure on the country (Elvis may have), but also remained #1 in the pop charts for many weeks. Pissed me off. I like WIllie, but come on, compared to E? No way. I guess Willie had the perfect time to take this song after Elvis' death and took advantage of it.

The first version of this I heard was Willie Nelson's truly amazing cover of it in 1982. This was a favorite of my parents as well. It was released during a period of time when my folks were listening to quite a bit of Willie's music, and hence, so was I. Other great covers Willie did around this period include "Georgia On My Mind" and "All of Me".
And then Pet Shop Boys also did a fantastic dance version in 1987 released on my favorite album of theirs, INTROSPECTIVE.
Elvis' version here is superb. The first time hearing it for me as well. It brought me to tears, and I thought it might to you as well right here >> (3:45)
ELVIS: "Give me one more chance to keep you satisfied..." (2:23)
SEPH: "Oh, you satisfy me every day!"
    Very sweet and funny!
"How that makes me feel, is like, he's singing it directly to me as well. Which is even more upsetting because I'd forgive him in a bloody heartbeat. I don't care if you weren't there. I'll forgive you! Just because he wasn't there on a couple days that I kind of wanted you there, it doesn't mean that I don't love you any less. It kills me. Songs like this kill me because it really does feel like he's singing it directly to you." (4:54) It's this personal relationship with Elvis, that you have mentioned several times in the past, that heightens the emotions you express in each of your reactions to his songs and performances, and makes your videos so compelling to watch.

I listen to them both on a daily basis pretttyyyyyy much equally I couldn't choose between them. Both sang amazing songs, both have amazing voices, both had an amazing influence on future generations, Both died young. Both have had awful things said about them. Both have been made fun of. Both died young. Both were extremely generous to a fault.
In my opinion they are both Kings. BUT having said that. Michael is a muchhhhhhhhhhh better dancer, Like DAMN. Sorry but he might be the best dancer i've ever seen "The man could have been just a dancer and still have been super famous in my opinion"
Even having said that i still like them equally though. I've listened to Kentucky Rain and Thriller about the same amount of times for example haha

Beautiful song full of emotion. It was recorded around the time he and Priscilla split up. Priscilla said that he gave her a copy of the song so seems likely that she was “on his mind” while singing it.

It wasn't. In P'zilla's dreams, though. Perhaps, she confused herself with "devil in disguise"....lol. Elvis said in an interview almost all the songs he sang were not based on his personal life, but for the enjoyment of his beloved fans. A few were dedicated to his beloved mother and daughter. He also chose to sing a few songs brought to him by his friends and associates.

This was written by Willie Nelson. Willie went to Vegas to see him perform this number. He slipped in late so no one knew he was even in the audience. So Elvis failed to introduce him, which he always did in his shows. Willie loved hearing it even though he was never recognized. He later said he wish Elvis had recorded it first. Thanks Seph.
