Thank you sir! Saved me time and money from a dealer visit. Got 2 CR2025s from my local dollar store for $1.25. Opening and closing was a breeze all thanks to you!
Thanks! Helped me change my key fob battery for the first time. By the way, that key opens the driver's side door if the key fob battery is totally dead. There is a removable cover on the bottom of the door handle that can be pried of with the key... and the key is used to unlock the door. Then to start the car you remove the base of the front cup holder and put the "dead" key fob in a slot that reads it and allows you to start the car.
@@8710john It's best *NOT* to ever do this unless you absolutely need to. If you ever need to bypass the electronic start, which also shuts off your alarm & engine shut off if the car is stolen; *BRING IT TO A FORD DEALER to have the system reset*
Thanks for this. I see others have brought to your attention that the metal key is actually to open the door & start the vehicle in case your fob batteries die or you lose/break the fob & also shared the instructions on how to deal w/ starting the car w/o the fob. You should always have no less than 2 fobs (always change the batteries in them at the same time, whether or not they are as weak as the fob you are needing to "fix") & have an extra key made. I have 3 fobs & 5 of those keys, w/ 1 hidden on the underbody of my car using rare earth magnets to hold it in place in a small container similar to the "hide-a-key" boxes. I am SO not a fan of how these fobs are designed. They are a PItA to open & a double PItA to close back up. I also want to throatpunch whomever developed the rear window on the 2005+ Mustangs. It is crazy hard to clean! I made a crazy gadget to do so w/ a little squeegee that I wrapped with a sponge & even lend it to the guys who detail my 2015 GT. Still, I love my Sully (named after the big blue monster from the movie "Monsters Inc."Yeah yeah, I know, but what do you expect from a boomer broad?) Thanks again for this video & may you & other Mustang lovers have a fun & safe Summer.
Thanks for the vid, just had to change my batteries out. Note the key you said is for the glove box is not the whole story as I recently learned myself, yes it should work on the glove box cause the keys match... but its a key to actually get you into the car in the event your keyfob just doesnt work....there is a small hole under the door handle of the car, you put the key in there and taadaa you're in. Never even knew it was there till yesterday.
But do you know how to start the car if you have to use that key??? I'm guessing "no." You lift up the liner of the cup holder & insert the key, which then shuts down the alarm & engine shut off, in case the car is stolen. If you ever have to do this, be sure to bring it to the dealer to have the system reset. #TheMoreYouKnow
Great video. Thanks so much! Just bought a 2015 Mustang GT and we are getting a Low Battery in Key Fob message on the dash. Now I can replace the batteries!
Thanks to your video I was able to get my key fob back together! I replaced the batteries and in trying to get the fob back together the pieces came apart!
I feel ya'. I was getting tired of fumbling with the honking thing for half an hour after replacing the dead batteries & handed it to my husband & of course it clicked right into place the first try for him. ~sigh~
Don’t use a a nickel or penny or anything to open, it may crack the plastic , just opened it with my nail by pushing down with a little force . I cracked some of the plastic when I used a penny so suggest to open it without if you can.
So you don’t have to get the keyfob reprogrammed to your vehicle after you replace the battery? I know that was a thing with my older 03 Mustang. Thanks in advance!
No need to reprogram. I think the only time you reprogram is when you get a brand new key fob. You should get one additional spare fob when you purchase the vehicle which already program.
Was able to get to the batteries. but when I try to put the last cover back on, one side won’t go in all the way. Anyone else get this problem? Forced and reassembled many times, left side won’t click back into place
You forgot to add a small bit of dialectic grease like what was on the factory battery. Also, it’s best to change the battery of your spare(s) at the same time.
Yep. However, I gave up after what seemed like the umpteeth time trying to get it right & brought it to the dealer who did it for me in mere seconds. Made me feel stupid. Almost as stupid as I felt trying to put the fob back together after replacing the batteries.
That metal key is not just a glove box key!...it is the driver's door key to use if the car battery is so dead that you cannot unlock the door with the key fob. There is a special way to take off a small plastic section of the door handle to expose the place where that metal key goes in and is turned to open the door the old fashioned way.
@@Eleanor67 ...Thanks and I have now corrected/edited my comment above. However and this may be a dumb question, if my car battery is stone cold dead but my key fob batteries are fine (there are two batteries negative and positive in each fob), will the fob work to unlock my doors? I don't think so because that is exactly what has happened to me and that is when I learned of the hidden metal traditional key inside the fob and where to insert it in the driver's door so I could open the door manually the old way and at least use the manual pull handle on the left side of the left footwall to open the hood and hook up a portable battery booster to enable me to start the engine.

That's a big rant for a key fob battery video lol
Thank you so much. Ordered my cr 2025 batteries on amazon prime next day as soon as I saw the low battery alert on my car's dashboard. Lifesaver!!!!🤗
I couldn’t have done it without this video, Thank you very much!
Saved me $50+ from Ford! Definitely earned a like!
Thank You sir! You saved me $125 dollars! Both key Fobs died same time.
Thanks - FYI you can also use the glove compartment key to pry open the case to the second layer.
Thank you! Helped replace the battery on my mom's Ford Edge!

What's that paper thing that goes between the batteries do?. Mine never had it
Not sure. Probably just to increase conductivity between the two batteries. If yours still work without the paper, then probably no big deal. Cheers!
Life saver
Helpful. Thank you
Thanks

Thank you so much! My car’s name is Eleanor like your username ❤️
Was able to get to the batteries. but when I try to put the last cover back on, one side won’t go in all the way. Anyone else get this problem? Forced and reassembled many times, left side won’t click back into place

Nope same battery
Wow! Thanks youre so helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!

I replace the battery but its not working my car cannot unlock ?
Thanks bro!

My battery has a sticky clear thing on it. Is that normal?
Andres Ricardo I think that's normal, as long as it work you should be fine.
Yep. It was on my original batteries & there's also sticky goo that I guess helps hold things in place.
Is this planned obsolescence? Our 2002 Mustang "Key Fob" has never needed to be "serviced."
Has anyone had to reprogram the key fob?
Yep. However, I gave up after what seemed like the umpteeth time trying to get it right & brought it to the dealer who did it for me in mere seconds. Made me feel stupid. Almost as stupid as I felt trying to put the fob back together after replacing the batteries.
Yes, not super hard to do. The most important things is you must have any/all original keys present when doing so (it will unprogram the other keys).

The key actually can be use for both unlocking the car when the key fob died and to lock/unlock the glove box.
