I bought a 2003 ion 2 quad coupe 2 wks ago I love it mom had 2 ion sedans and flipped her second one and walked away with out a scratch those cars are as safe as anything else out there
Lots of small engines burn a lil oil. The VW VR6 is notorious for burning a quart every few months but it is still an awesome engine. Get an aluminum radiator to keep temps under control. Get a brass engine coolant temperature sensor. Get a made in Germany thermostat, it says Germany right on the tab in the thermostat. Get a magnetic oil pan drain plug and magnetic transmission pan plug. These are some of the mods I have done to my Saturn. Spray silicone lubricant on all the suspension bushings, you will not believe the difference. Get a grease needle and shoot grease into all the little tie rod rubber boots and the one below the front hubs, unbelievable difference. New plug wires and plugs made a huge difference in my used car as well. I also got a strut tower brace and you can really tell in the clover leafs and tight turns as well. Next on my list is K and N filter and performance ignition coils. I put a new battery in and got the coolant temps right and it is like a new car for a few hundred bucks.
Oh yeah, about oil. Synthetic is the only way to go and spend the extra buck or 2 for a better filter also. I also switched to prestone regular antifreeze after running distilled water for a while to flush out the dex crap. Switched to synthetic transmission fluid and new filter as well.
I discovered more info to share. My Saturn started burning oil about a quart a month. I youtubed Scotty Kilmer and he had the answer. The pcv valve on top of the valve cover next to the oil fill cap on the 1.9 dual overhead cam wears out! It cost four bucks at the auto store and pops right in no tools! Problem solved!About suspension stiffness. Factory bushings and other suspension parts are usually rubber or rubber nylon. These stay soft for years. Sport bushings and other suspension parts are usually eurethane!!! What's wrong with that? Nothing except eurethane HARDENS with AGE!!! If you have a sporty suspension that's more than five years old all the eurethane is hardened!!! Get factory bushings and other parts at a dealer and press them in and see how soft it is. You also need to lubricate suspension joints, fittings , and bushings with spray silicone or silicone grease! Just because a car does not have grease zerk fittings doesn't mean the car can not be lubed! Just take a can of spray silicone and spray all the joints and you're done. Easy.
That's beautiful. I have a 2005 Saturn ion 3 sedan and I absolutely love it. Definitely the best car I've ever had. I'm hoping to buy an Ion redline as well, just for fun. Let me know any tips you may have about owning an ion redline
The thing that annoys me with ions is how the gauges are in the center of the dash and not behind the stearing wheel. Very annoying to look to the center of the dash and not straight forward ESPECIALLY when you are just getting used to it. I'd imagine that someone who dailies an ion hardly even notices it
Bought an 06 Ion Red Line about two weeks ago. Had to drive it four hours home and loved the car. I personally like the gauges and didn't have any issues even driving it in heavy four lane traffic 5 minutes after buying it. To each their own.
@@randymiracle4958 funny. I bought a 2006 Cobalt ss about 2 months ago and I love it aswell. It's basically stock and not that fast but it gets compliments nearly everywhere I go. The deciding factor for me over an ION RL was 1, I couldnt find one. And 2, I thought the styling was better and interior was nicer... although, any cobalts interior is nothing to brag about. I wouldve liked to have had those suicide rear doors tho.
@@USA_djhiggi77 Yeah the rear doors are really handy. I was pretty determined to find a decent 06-07 Red Line with competition package. Got a black one with 114k miles and couldn't be happier.
All cars accelerate harder in first than second, unless the wheels are spinning. Does yours spin the wheels just by flooring it from a roll, clutch out, in first?
It's FWD Which means it's really bad at traction lol. An LSD Should fix that a little bit but yeah that's why it's better in second because the tires finally get grip
I have a Saturn SL right now and it uses oil on long trips. Are the Ions in general as reliable? I might look to get a newer car soon since my little SL is pushing 191k miles.
Delagrim I had a saturn sl a while back that used some oil, it had just over 100,000km. Try using different brands of oil at each oil change, some will burn faster than others. If you are not blowing blue i would not worry to much, just keep it topped up.
Yea they ride rough now like the cavalier did the S series was soft ride don't know why they changed it my 99 SL2 goes over bumps like nothing unlike my 04 ion redline
It is just regular spray silicone lubricant with the little straw that goes on the nozzle. It is only about three dollars at Walmart and other hardware stores. I also shot grease in all the joints protected by rubber boots with a grease needle fitted to a regular grease gun. Both are at auto stores. As you look at the wheel hub the lowest joint below the hub is the most crucial for lube and also the hardest to see. Just stick the grease needle in the rubber cover and shoot about four pulls of the lever in the joint. My car was stiff until I did this and now is very limber.
just got my hands on one of these and am super impressed so far. I can tell this is gonna be my baby for the next 4-5 years.

I love these Ion Redlines, it's like the Cobalt SS's Twin Brother, Less Popular but still knows how to move and looks the part lol
Beautiful cal I have the same one and same color it's a 2004
Amazing car and very quick
Hey my name is Brandon and I have a silver ion redline lol 😆I love your car.
You need camera stability in your life.
Nice car.
Imagine the metarial on the Saturn badge were stones from Saturn lol
Super nice! 👍

Those ion redlined would look good in white or orange(the 2003 quad coupe could be had in orange)

Hey I got the same car a 2005 and mines rides very rough how does your car ride. I notice my tires are a lil smaller than yours
I had those leds on my Saturn but realized they look terrible when they get old
im having trouble finding that front bumper, a deer hit mine do you know where to look for a replacement?

Where did you get the headlights?

How does this compare to a sky redline??

Poo Edd It's a shame that they use up oil like that :/ I bought it with 185k miles on it and it still rides and drives like it's brand new.
Read my post to this section. A little oil burn is no big deal.
@Kee Scutch it takes bumps really rough yeah haha
I skip 3rd gear all the time with no prob if i red line my ion '04 sedan. Or red line 3rd@90+ shifter pops when i pop clutch then cruze in 5th.
Yea they ride rough now like the cavalier did the S series was soft ride don't know why they changed it my 99 SL2 goes over bumps like nothing unlike my 04 ion redline
Spray silicone on the suspension bushings, works.
+David Martie where can get some of that ???

I don't like the location of the guage cluster it looks ugly.
205 stock hp 200 tq
basically a cobalt ss
Actually these came before the cobalt SSs and they took the idea from gms partner group Saturn because of good sales
But a lsj cobalt as vs an ion redline
The ion is way lighter mostly a plastic cat
Dan Mccarthy I believe the Cobalt SS Had better suspension that was the only difference aside from the styling
Oh, its a shitty saturn!
SensesLOL LOL Lmao
