When you realize Lower Styria(Slovenian Styria) has been Austrian, longer than most of Austria
What do you mean?
@@pietrvtynowicz0783 he means the today's border of Austria are younger than (most of) non-today's borders of Austria.
My second surname (Cillis), comes from the city named Cilli in Lower Styria, so it's really sad for me that 'Untersteiermark' isn't Austrian anymore😪
@@CorvusLeukos Hehe, you might be a successor of Counts or Celje(Cilli)
Also, my great great grandparents lived in a village right next to Celje and the rest of my family comes entirely from Lower Styria (I also live in a town that’s right between Celje and Maribor)
@@alengrm7488 wow that's cool, I'd love to go to Celje, could you tell me how German was the place before? Some XIX and XX centuries ethnic maps contradict themselves about that
what people thought about austria in the last millenium: european superpower, emperor of the holy roman empire most of the time, king of personal unions, one of the strongest nations in the world, stopped the ottomans from getting further into europe
what a lot of people outside of europe think now when they hear about austria:
"kangaroos"
how the mighty has fallen....

Love to great Austria! From Germanic brother in the north 🇦🇹👏🇸🇪
Your not Germanic your language is but your still your own ethnicity
R.o.b Germans, Austrians, Danes, Swedes, Norweigians and even French and Brits are germanic people. Meaning we originated from the same or simular tribes when people settled in europe. The language came obviously came and developed with the people. The big difference is French and British people who’s culture and language got influenced by latin when the romans conquered. But germanic tribes originally settled in these lands. So no friend, not only the language makes us brothers. German people including Austrians are actually more simular to Nordic people than you realize. I mean its not like Swedish ancestors came from China lol
@@generalgrohnvale8665 Totally agree, greetings from Germany my Brother!

Fun fact: Austria almost regained control of Spain during the Spanish Succession War at the beginning of the 18th century.
Austria never controlled Spain, since Charles V of was 1st king of Spain before he was the Austrian Archduke.
Yeah I think napoleon tried taking Spain as well but Spain with no king or queen = Spain goes to war
Spain is just like Afghanistan you can’t take it over unless you destroy everything that has anything to do with Spanish

Edit: there is something that I must report ...Most of the rulers of Austria with the title of Archduke are known as "emperors" and that's because the Hapsburgs archdukes of Austria were ruling over holy Roman empire (German empire ,first Reich )since a long time ago and for ages puting techicaly Austria as the centre of the empire ...And that's a phenomenon that after the 30aged war was becoming stronger and stronger especially since the times of Charles VI and by the time we arrived in Mary Theresa ,Josef II and Leopold II the country was actually untypical considered as "Austrian" empire .....So yeah .... Austria has one of the best histories. Many people make world war jokes about Austria (and being only a "tiny German province"), although in 1741 half of Europe (including Prussia, France, Spain) attacked Austria as excuse, but Austria alone repelled most of their invasions. We also defended Europe against the Ottomans, and did militarily the impossible many times, inflicting battlefield defeats on Frederick the Great & Napoleon alone (Kolin, Hochkirch, Aspern-Essling). We also had the Habsburg dynasty, which spanned over several European countries, the fact that even Mexico had an Austrian emperor and Brazil an Austrian empress (the yellow part of the Brazilian flag is for the Habsburger) is pretty interesting. Third largest oil producer worldwide before WW1. Third country worldwide in history to introduce mandatory education after Denmark & Prussia. Home of Haydn (melody of the German anthem) and Strauss (the father composed the Radetzky march, one of the best Austrian generals, and many musics of Strauss Jr. are used in old cartoons). Host of the Congress of Vienna. Invented the waltzer, psychoanalysis (Sigmund Freud), Schrödinger equation (Erwin Schrödinger), slow motions, Cosmic ray, discovery by Victor Francis Hess (nobel prize), ect. And to the Americans who say "haha, tiny German province which starts every war", continue being jealous, Austria has 1,000 years of history, and it will be always one of the best.
@@TheAustrianAnimations87 Hello there, i'm Brazilian and really proud to have empress Leopoldine von Habsburg as our most important empress. Greetings from this side of the atlantic! I hope for the restoration of the monarchy here.

Riots, clashes and unrest in Vienna these days between Kurds and Turks. No wonder with at least 50% foreign population in Vienna. Nice future for Austria!
yep because evil multiculturism destroyed everything and racism rise again europe
i live in austria but don't act like the austrian government is completely innocent. why do they allow kurdish separatist groups to demonstrate almost everytime they want but almost never allow it for turks? for turks they say that they don't want foreign politics in austria. is the so called "kurdistan" in austria? why are they allowed then? there will always be conflicts if you let people demonstrate about foreign politics in your country. the government should allow it for both groups or if they don't want any foreign conflicts in austrian territory at all then they shouldn't allow such demonstrations for anybody. if you ask me both groups shouldn't demonstrate because that's a conflict where austria has nothing to say about and this won't be solved by demonstrations in vienna.
a lot of immigrants live in austria and if you ask me most of them get along very well if they follow only one simple rule: NEVER talk about politics. you can find a lot of turks who are good friends with kurds and armenians, bosnians and albanians and even kosovars who are friends with serbians and other friends whose countries usually don't get along very well.
as an austrian with turkish heritage all i can say is that these conflicts have no place in austria at all. but if you allow a group to demonstrate then you should also allow it to the other group. you can't just let one group speak and don't allow it for the other group.

Correction: The original Austria (Margraviate Ostarrichi) established in 976 used to be much smaller than the Austria you draw on the map. It was just a small region along Danube river and belonged to Bavarian Archduchy. From then on it was extended gradually and reached the size on the map not until 1156. In this year it became an own archduchy existing independently of Bavaria.

don't say that in austria because austrians don't really like them at all. the habsburgs are mostly made fun of. i live in austria but austria is one of the countries that mostly ignores their history or they don't really feel connected to it. it's also a bit normal because after ww2 this country developed a completely different national identity. today's austrian republic is very different from the austrian empire.
for example today's french people would talk about their history a lot and be proud their achievements, same as the spanish people or turks or the english when they speak about their past. but austrians don't really talk about that. they aren't very obsessed with their past and if they talk about history it's mostly about ww2 (of course in a negative way, austrians are ashamed of the war crimes and mass killings during this period and are very sorry for it)
I'm not Austrian but I'm Spanish and I love that country and the influence it had in my country!

In 1278 the Hungarian King's huge army has won the battle of Dürnkrut (Marchfeld) for Rudolph I of Habsburg against the Czech king and this has been the point from which the until then relatively unknown Habsburg family has gained power. In case the Hungarian king has not won for Rudolph, Austria would may not even exist today.
Thats why they always fought to reclaim hungary after its fall to the ottomans!
@@stefanbocevski7974 "Reclaim"? You talk bullshit. The 1278 comment was on that it has been Hungary enabling the rise of the Habsburgs and not the opposite. Hungary has been the dominant power in the region until the Ottomans invaded the half of the world including the whole Balkans, north Africa etc. And it has been Hungary being the main power to stand against the Ottomans for centuries. That has been the main reason Austria (a duchy not a kingdom) has been saved for long.
And so typical Austrian attitude that the monument erected on the spot of the battle did not indicate the Hungarian King as belligerent but only the Habsburg and the Czech king, while without the Hungarian King's assistance the Habsburg would have been defeated. After many years the monument was erected, the request of a Hungarian civil team dedicated to history traditions has been needed to erect a supplementary plate that names the Hungarian King also.

There are some errors: The flag (red-white-red) was not from the beginning. It was inherited from carinthian counts in the 13th century. Melk was also not the first capital, but the second. The first capital was Pöchlarn, not too far from Melk (in high medieval German: Bechelaren, which is also mentioned in the Nibelung saga as the residence of the fictive character Rüdiger von Bechelaren). The video also depicts the whole Province of Lower Austria as Austria from the beginning in 976 AD. But in the beginning it was only a small strip of land (several miles wide) on both sides of the Danube river from the mouth of the river Enns to approximately where the town Melk is. Austria only became the size of the Province of Lower Austria continuously by conquest of the Babenberger margraves (later: dukes) among the slavic tribes in that area and the immigration of Bavarian and Frankish settlers (mostly farmers and monks) until around 1200 AD.

@@Wyatt_does_Stuff personal union don’t mean crap. All it means is a close alliance. Bc they never were even when they were in a personal union for like 2 years but all it meant back then was one king controlled two nations armies. Poland still had its own rule of itself and policies ma laws separate from Hungary. Same with the personal union of Hungary and Croatia until the Croatian king died with no heir and Croatia was split between Austria and Hungary, or just two states of Austria. You can argue Austrohungary was a personal union, but again no, the maygars with the help of Slovaks Serbs and Romanians (by manipulating them) reveled against the Austrians and allowed the kingdom of Hungary to be an autonomous kingdom within the Austrian Empire, yeah they think they were cool to get Hungary in the Austrian empire name but it was still mainly Austria that had the power and control. They just let maygars get some autonomy and credit to prevent another major civil war after 1848-49. Like how stupid Czechs made the illusion to Slovaks they share a nation (union) when Czechs just ruled over Slovaks and forced all Moravians to be Czechs and slowly try to make Slovaks into Czechs.
Again a perfect understanding of a personal union is to look at nato and the European Union. Yeah they are connected in some ways but they are not one nation. No one but stupid Americans think all the nations in the eu are one nation. They get it confused bc america is a union, but america is a federation of small states (territories). If one USA state breaks away its a civil war. In the eu there is no federal state or head official, sure some nations like france and Germany have more control of the union compared to Greece or Croatia or slovakia, but like we saw with the uk when one member breaks away no major war happens.
In short a personal union is just a strong alliance between two nations, it can lead them to unite as one but until a federalized system between them form to make them one they are separate but close nations.
@@Wyatt_does_Stuffthat is true but still. Showing the Premyslid years as "interregnum" makes it pretty clear that this video wants to show Habsburg and not Austria as a country.
F-s in the comments for ma boy Hungary who got annexed for over 100 years
l. Álmos Bendegúz finally someone whom recognised Hungary
You guys hungarian?
Thanks bro for the back stab at the ottoman wars

no problem ❤️
You have not shown the Hungarian Rákóczi revolt from 1703-1711, which took out much of the Hungarian territory from the Habsburg empire.
Royal Hungary was the symbol of the continuity of formal law after the Ottoman occupation, because it could preserve its legal traditions. but in general, it was de facto a Habsburg province.

rétep scávok, no, you are not right, much of hungary teritory was independent in 1867, not sooner

Here is the map of the revolution.
The very dark green shows the regions liberated by Hungarians in 1703,
The middle green shows the regions liberated by Hungarians in 1704,
The light green shows the regions liberated by Hungarians in 1705,
Yellow shows the regions remained in Austrian hands.

This shows the territorial losses of the Hungarians during the recession of the revolution.
Austria and Slovenia were 500 years together lol
Austria and Slovenia are brothers
@Lydia Köffler funny cause your last name is german
Very well made video, though approximately at 1918 you could have replaced the “Dynasty” part with political parties and coalitions. Still a good map video!
Why there isn't the modern Austrian anthem?
I don't really care since the old one is way better.
p
Agreed.
The modern one is alright if you ask me, but no one knows the lyrics here lmao

Excellent video. One small suggestion though... It would be great if you would include the borders of the HRE and the ruling emperor when you are mapping the history of the countries in that area. And probably in some cases like austria the borders of the german confederation. I think it would add an interesting historical detail, especially when it comes to this clip and your also great one about the chzech republic.
But as I wrote, excellent work. I enjoy your channel very much.
In the next video (The History of Germany) there will be shown the borders of the Holy Roman Empire and German Confederation + all Holy Roman Emperors.
That would be great. I am looking forward to it. Thank you.

Hungary was indepented, It had Habsburg kings, but not Austrians
Austria still took Burgenland from Hungary.
@@nomoi2098 In Austria-Hungary it was independent. The only thing which was controlled by Austria in a whole was the foreign politics.
Could you please make a video like this about Germany?
Germany will be published on October 1 (History of Germany is ready, but not published)

Wow, what an interesting country with a long and complex history.
Sure hope people aren't weirdly nationalistic about a fantastical view of it for literally no reason.
Love Áustria from Brazil 🇧🇷🇦🇹
The austrian empire was bigger, austria was the holy roman empire
No it just was the leade of it
No the most time they were. But even if the countries in the HRE are still independent countries and austria cannot say them what they have to do(mostly)the HRE is a very complicadet thing
No it was just the main power of it
No the HRE was German every emperor also held the title king of Germany
King Ottokar II was duke of Austria since 1251 till 1276, also duke of Styria, Carinthia and Margrave of Carniola. At the height of his power his rule over Austrian lands was quite firm a stable, so I would not call this period as "interregnum".
