Native Instruments Komplete 14 is out! The sheer amount of instruments and sounds is incredible, but is it worth the hefty price tag to purchase/upgrade. I take a look at the new additions to version 14 and offer my perspective as a production music composer tasked with writing in all styles and genres.

I loved the part when you were singing together with Glaze! (07:35)! And like you I love Playbox. Thank you for demonstrating the whole collection.
Also started with Komplete around version 6 or 7… and then slowly update to 8 Ultimate, then 9 Ultimate, to finally end up with the 13 Ultimate Collector’s Edition. At some point, during the next 50% discount that often happen (Spring?), I will surely update to 14 Collector. It’s just a “must-have” collection for any musician that work on a DAW. You get so much Effect, Plugins, Samples, for all kind of music genre, it really turns your DAW into a real “Workstation”. I know that the price isn’t easy on the wallet, mainly if you’re starting music and you have nothing and need to buy the full price (and not the upgrade/update), but it will be on of the best investment for the future (since you don’t have to update each year or each new release. I think I jumped from 10 to 13 for the same price as from 12 to 13). Buying Maschine, a Komplete Kontrol and Komplete Ultimate Collector’s Edition will turn your computer into a Keyboard workstation like a $4k Roland, Korg, Yamaha, Kurzweil and such… So in the end, it’s pretty much the same price, but you have SO much more possibilities with a Computer and your DAW with Komplete.

I have the 9 ultimate and have yet to try all the sounds, will probably wait until 15 to upgrade, or perhaps I'll cave into the 14 during a 50% off sale.

Thank you! Great video. I just upgraded my K13UCE to 14 because of very nice summer discount :) And I agree - it's worth every penny. Every new library sucks in and inspires. Already made new sketches for next albums.

If you're going to buy an NI keyboard, I'd reccomend getting one with the screens (Komplete Kontrol S49/61), it makes a huge difference to usability!
@Nathaniel Walker It doesn't force you to use Konplete Kontrol.
I upgraded from 13 Ultimate to 14 Collector’s Edition… and it was worth it to me. The $599 price is still a great value considering the quality of the content.
I love libraries like this as a source of inspiration, as much as anything. Just as you mention, they put us into areas and genres we might never stroll into without a little nudge. Thanks for this. 💙🎶🌟

Thank you for the nice video. Many great libraries, but in my humble opinion, most of them are only repetitions of the old, with new graphics. Certainly the Omnia, e.Mint, Nylon, and few great tools, and of course, they are only in c.e. version of it?
Ignition Keys sounded very nice. I've got 13 collector's edition, and trying to decide to get 14 CE as well. I'm leaning towards just the Standard this time, because I'm mainly just a pop/hip hop/electronic/dance producer. What do you think?
Cool video! I upgraded on Tuesday to the collector's edition. It's cool, but I worry about some of the sounds/patterns being recognizable in work by other users of the libraries. I need to resist the urge to use these straight out of the box. 😅
I basically got it for Lores, Choir: Omnia, and Kontakt 7. I already had many of the other instruments from before.
I try and make a habit to tweak at least a few parameters once I decide to use a particular sound, but it's so difficult when the preset maker and I have similar taste in music.

As a sample developer it’s hard not using the new toys that come with version updates. On the composer side, the new Home Screen search functionality is quite useful.

Already forked out the mega bucks for the ultimate edition from the last release and they still need me to pay 500 bucks even though I almost already have everything. Sucks

More importantly ..can you REMOVE this garbage so as not to hog up space with out of tune noise ,808 "drums" and low fi crap i will never use ?
Its awesome that you get 48000 sounds ..but i wont want or need 22,000.
If you are new then this is great if you’re coming from complete 13 collection Edition it’s a tough one. Komplete is the most expensive software I own and it’s on not always my go to. My Omnisphere 😢only cost $280 and it’s the first thing on my plug-in.. There is some items in the new 14 I have Individually bought .. action strings and two other expansions in addition to my 13 collection edition. My New Year’s resolution now is to maximise what I have and learn it well.
yea, maximizing what we have is the secret. Knowing how to find what you need quickly is important.
I’m in the same boat. I have K13 CE and bought Action Strings 2, Ashlight and Piano Colors between releases. Wait until Summer of Sound next year - am guessing it’ll be half price to upgrade. Also, “upgrading” to K14 standard will get us Kontakt 7 and Playbox. Am tempted to spend $200 to get those two and then wait until June for the rest. Btw the Omnisphere NKS libraries by freelance soundlabs mean I spend most of my time running Omni in Komplete Kontrol with my S61 mkII - so much more fun running Omni in there (although the new flow capture feature in Omni won’t work when running in KK).
@@ohheyitskevinc I currently have 20 third-party patches for Omnisphere. Nowadays with all the new plug-ins coming out - the first thing I ask myself is can I achieve the same results with what I currently have? - 9 out of 10 times the answer is yes. Nowadays my focus is mainly anything with quick workflow and results
I picked it up recently, and I've already used some of the exclusive collectors edition instruments and they're amazing. The solo Stradivari Cello is amazing!

I updated to Collector edition for $500. TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!! Lores, Piano Colors, Kontakt 7, Ashlight, Choir Omnia, Playbox, Session Guitarist, Ignition Keys, Action Strings 2, Sequis and all the new sounds added are just next level. If updating even from Kontakt 13, don't think twice if you got the cash!

Since it's Cyber Season, the Collector's Edition is now at the price of initially the Ultimate Edition. So now I could either go with the Collector's Edition or save 300 bucks and go with Ultimate, as I planned.

Same haha. I gave all the stuff that is exclusive to CE a listen and I gotta say, there's not much of a use for me. I feel like for the vast majority of sounds I want to create, I can do this well with other instruments included in Ultimate. I'm still in the loop of comparing the symphony essential vs. series. These are probably one of the things I might miss.
Any of this stuff used in real film production? I'm talking big block buster film scores created. Also is this used in any musical artists mixes? And I don't mean rap, EDM and Dubstep. Also when I mention films, I don't mean low budget independent films.
I wish NI would just put out a knob box with the displays from its flagship KB for NKS, sort of like the old more box maybe. I have a good 88-key controller already.
Great review! I am curious as to how much of these preset patterns can be picked up by Content ID especially when it comes to sync licensing and releasing tracks. I know using Output Arcade, Spice, etc. for melodies and chord progressions are definitely an issue, but I wonder where they draw the line. Any feedback on those guidelines would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

The marketing text for the release reads to me like you are free to leverage everything you paid for.
If every sample and sound is subject to content id challenges then whats the point?
Specifically look at the 14 collectors edition sections around platforms for sampling, and sampled instruments.

Hey Jon, you forgot to show one very important thing for K14, it’s actually the factory library for Kontakt 7, now there’s some very good orchestral sounds done by Orchestral Tools. For someone that wants to be a movie composer, or classical composer, etc… it’s already a very good library to start with, making Komplete a “must-buy” bundle.

Please try - TRY PLUCKED NYLON - There is an audio error in this library and I need your help to contact NI.
In the recorded sample of the nylon stringed guitar, you can hear the musician moving and even sighing. And its not an insignificant background noise. I have tried contacting NI to make them aware with no response so far. So this is another way of trying to let them know.
I am sure that you have influence with NI, so please let them know.
More specifically, the issue I have noticed is with "Plucked Nylon - 'Fine sea - open - Concert Hall II'
I am using it a the end of a song as the final note but, unfortunately, there is a sighing / movement from the player. I aint complaining - its a tricky job. But I think NI should be aware

@@JonMeyer Nice! Yeah the integration w NI stuff is so helpful. Also the strips (instead of wheels) for pitch and mod are useful for totally different performance things... I don't love them for detailed expression work, for example, but touching the strip randomly (like on the blankforms tape synth) yields some really different results that you can't get with a continuous wheel controller.
I just upgraded from K13U to K14UCE. I absolutely love some of the new stuff (Lores, Ashlight, Electric Mint, Choir Omnia, Arkhis, Sequis). But Melted Vibes? no thank you! lol

Yea, I'm sure I'll find a use for Melted Vibes, but right out of the box it doesn't do much for me! :) Oh and thanks for the pronunciation help. I can't be the only one who messed that up!

Hello there, probably a little late to advice, but you should absolutely get the higher tier of the NI MIDI keyboard.. Me personally I got A49 and for my purposes it's okay, but first things first: the keys themselves are kinda loud, also pretty light, which doesn't necessarily translate the feel of a piano + the features are cut down a lot.. also with the S series you get the led lights above keys which can be used as guide or some nice effect while playing.. but at the end of a day, you seem like much more of a professional and I believe the higher tier could do you better than the A tier..

Awesome video! Instant sub from me. One thing to note if you get a NI keyboard the NKS macro knobs only work if you use instruments within Komplete Kontrol (as far as I know). They really need to bring them over to Kontakt itself so you don't first have to open up KK.

I suppose most of us have some version of Komplete anyhow. That helps. Not € 1799, but € 1199, € 599 or... And that's the issue perhaps: € 499 from K13UCE.
Given that NI asks a third for it's Standard upgrade, I suppose one could say it's not that bad.
But when you can upgrade from Ultimate to CE for just € 100 more than you update from CE to CE... It is a bit odd.
Oh well, hey, for the others still on the other side of the river... Just stay warm this winter and wait until the Summer of Sound.
Upgraded today from 13 Ultimate to 14 Ultimate Collector's Edition for a discounted price (€299), it was absolutely worth it!

i love my M32 keyboard. Im not sure but I also believe it's less wide than the A series keyboards. I'd double check since you were wanting to put it on top of your other keyboard.

I got the upgrade this week and it was funny watching you go through all the libraries saying the things I was thinking. The Play series libraries are rabbit holes of fun but it’s seeing what’s under the hood and how they achieve the overall effect that is most useful - its a research tool which if used raw will just get into copyright territory. Should it come with a warning?

Piano Colors is one of those.... Well, virtual instruments that makes me want to upgrade to at least Ultimate next summer.

99% users agree that we need Kontakt completely redesign. Its structure, look and technology is almost as ancient as pyramids. The most obsolete music plugin on the market.

just being biased. why can anyone make an honest review? it's all the same thing and pretty much libraries with loops for hundreds of dollars. you cannot make your own melodies with any of these stuff. if everyone uses these loops then lawsuits will happen.
None of this is copyrighted, what you on about.
As long as you're mixing these sounds to create your own work, not selling the vanilla samples to other producers.
Komplete is not just loop libraries. Most of it ain't.

Attenuate the reverb on these presets and they'll sit back in the mix.
