Just curious, how did you know you needed new struts? Did the car drive rough? Just got a used 2010 Prius and it’s not as smooth hitting bumps on the road and wondering if that’s just how it rides or need new struts for a smoother ride.
This one was pretty obvious when driving. Loud noises and not very smooth on the road. Based on yours not being smooth, I would guess that it may be time to replace them.

How are they holding up?
Spring compressor gonna be cheaper to rent then lets say what you rent for the ball joints like on an explorer??
skorpyo33 yes. The tool was about $30 to rent at Autozone, but they give your money back after you return it.
How is it holding up now ?
Still rolling along. It belongs to a friend that drives a lot and aside from changing his brakes, there have been no other issues.
Dear Joe,
How many miles on it, need shock absorbers?
had two priuses and both needed struts around 150-170k
Wouldn't removing the windshield cowl make the entire job easier?
You have to remove the windshield wiperblade motor to remove the cowl.
That's the preferred method but it's a lot of extra work. If you have the tools to reach it's just as easy to leave the cowl on.
