    A suggestion: Before you start any disassembly loosen the upper strut mount nut. Back it off until it is not torqued down and perhaps one more turn but not more. If you remove the strut before you do this you will have the difficulty you had in loosening the torqued nut, but if it's already untorqued it comes right off.

      @BIGWILLSCARCARE  Рік тому +4

      @LouinVB In most cases that's how it's done but in this case the rubber mount was broken and there was no way to get the socket to fit while it was on the vehicle. Thanks for watching please Like, Share and Subscribe if you haven't already

      Interesting. Upon reinstalling the nut do you do it before or after the strut is installed?

    Forget strut mount installation, this was actually the best strut and spring installation video I've watched on youtube! The others skipped so many steps. They would skip the top strut cover and bearing installation. They would skip the details of the alignments. A lot of videos would have all in one assemblies of struts and springs (Quick Struts) but it was hard to find one that showed all the steps of removing and installing the strut and spring back in place! Thanks a lot! This has helped me tremendously! I installed all springs, struts, sway bar links, and new mounts and bearings. I'll have to go over things again as i'm getting clunking.

    Good video, I was so stressed I took my car to the garage they said I must change both the strut mount and shocks. After that I called one of the guy who fixed cars he just used his finger to check whether the nut it's centered or not. After watching this video now I'm 101% sure about what needs to be changed

    Good job. One thing I’d suggest is never use chrome sockets on a large impact. They are very hard vs soft impact sockets and can easily shatter. Many people have lost teeth, eyes and had metal in their face from this occurring. Stay safe

      quik ques, when removing sway bar front links ( or joints, or struts) is it important to have both wheels up off ground to relieve pressure on the the parts so the bolts come loose, or its ok to leave one tire on the ground, ?

    Thank for such an informative video .. I was going to change the struts today for my Toyota Avalon 2012, I had no problem or noises at all but I want to maintain the good condition of my car .. when I was the the guy who worked in my car told my I have to change these mounts I had no idea why and I was skeptical because he gave a number of a man that works with him to buy the part from, mine wasn’t touching the metal but the space between them wasn’t even there was bigger space in in one side .. after your video I’m a bit relieved that I wasn’t scammed or something :)

      brinafees; Things may seem tight on top but still be bad. Two things to try: take a large screw driver or pry bar and try moving the center (strut/shock) nut either direction or #2 have someone turn the steering wheel while you watch that center shaft/nut to see how bad it moves. This is how I confirmed that mine was bad. Also check other linkage on the steering assembly. Good luck

      I heard that if you replace the whole assembly, you will not get the same soft ride that Lexus has because the spring is different. The spring makes a big difference in the quality of ride. Lexus springs are specially made to give you that unique soft, smooth ride. This is why it is good to preserve the spring and replace only the shock and mount unless you do not care much about quality of ride. This is what I will have to do on my es350 as it makes annoying popping noise whenever I turn to the left.

      @@BIGWILLSCARCARE I did sub. Its not dangerous driving the car with slight rattle in strut mount is it? I wanted to wait atleast another couple years or 10k miles as I just bought the car. 97 Lexus es300 just rolled over 50k miles. Everything else is solid and passed inspection at Toyota dealership.
      My strut mount isnt broken like this. Its the start of it breaking though with metallic slap when I hit large cracks in road. I don't have grinding and movement with middle bolt shifting when you push down on the car. It hasn't gotten to this point yet. Ill change them in the next 5-10k or 2 years as we only use the car to get to work and groceries store. Gets driven locally about 3k per year I'd say. Ill keep an eye on it though. I heard you can spray that silcone lube on these and noise goes away. Strange when temperatures are above 50 degrees Fahrenheit the noise is gone. I can't see changing it out yet as most cars ive seen hit 100-150k miles before doing struts.
      I plan on just changing strut mounts with Moog quickstruts with mounts included when originals start to fail as they're still very nice. It seems alot easier and more logical to change everything. That's why I wanted to wait as my struts still have alot of life left. Also most shops will only install quick strut and won't change over Springs to new struts then alone ask for them to change strut mounts. Its more labor to do mounts versus quick strut so I mise well just change the struts. I feel more confident doing struts at my buddies garage. Just 5 bolts each strut. It just makes more sense. Front seems easy but the rear you have to remove seats. That should be fun. Either way only paid 3 grand for the car. Were low income and like to fix things when its more serious even though I want to fix sooner but worried other things might fail with the car being 25 years old like fuel pump, alternator, starter, sensors, transmission. Who knows. Beauties of being poor.
