    I have a 2007 civic and I bought a CR1616 as recommended however it turns out I needed a CR1620! So unfortunately I wasted money on a CR1616. Point is, it’s best to open the key first to confirm the battery you have before buying one. The video was very helpful though, so thank you!

    You need a Button Cell battery, specifically, you need a CR1616.
    The first two digits need to be 16 (these specify the diameter).
    The last two digits, in this case 16 as well, denote the height/width of the battery.
    I accidentally bought a CR2016, then a CR1632, so I learnt the hard way about diameters and height of the naming convention of the button cell battery. The CR2016 was to wide in diameter, the CR1632 would not click into place.

    Do you have to program the key again or is it just a change of battery? I know that when replacing the key it needs to be programed on the car but I don't know if it has to be programed to the car if it is only a battery change

    A new CR1616 holds 3.3V. i have changed battery 2 times and both old batteries were at 3.05V and 3.07V when the key fob started working intermittent (sometimes lock with faint red indication on key fob and sometimes dont / no indication). So that seems to be the minimum level for function. The original Panasonic lasted A LOT longer (4+ years) than my replacement KODAK MAX lithium (1-2 years on first battery will see how this 2nd will work) (batt expiry date 01/2028 so new) so next two batteries will be Panasonic for sure.
    This second switch i also cleaned of all contact points with pure alcohol (ethanol) as there were a tiny bit of oxide, but might be enough to cause extra resistance and battery draw vs original that had black dots at contact points on the battery. The kodak did not have any black dots as it didn't last as long i guess.

    I have two key fobs that came with the Civic sedan. One screw came out with some effort and the other would not budge and I ruined the screw head. The dealer was able to loosen the blue loctite by heating the key shaft and remove the screw. I then replaced the screw. If the screw doesn't budge try that first. Otherwise you may have to break off the replaceable back and use some pliers to wrench out the screw.

    The video was well done but with only one flaw, the individual needed to state the size/model number of the battery needed to fit the fob.

    I ended up stripping a screw when I used a precision screwdriver set which you can buy for 5 to 6 dollars on my 2007 Honda Civic key fob. DO NOT USE of those screwdrivers because the grip isn't strong enough (the width of a thin straw and the grip consist of smooth shiny metal) to open the screw. I highly recommend buying a number 0 Phillips screwdriver with a proper thick handle made with non-slip plastic which has plenty of non-slip grip and it will delivery the power and torque to release the screw - the screw itself has blue Loctite glue added to it, which makes it more difficult to unscrew. Another tip for those who want to keep their key fob in mint condition with no dents or scratches, use your two finger nails on the indentation to pry the cover open and it isn't all that difficult - just be slow and careful. When I used a flathead screwdriver and it created a bunch of minor dents and scratches on my brand new never been used second Honda Civic key fob which is 10 years old.

      @kristupasantanavicius9093 4 роки тому

      You stripped it because you used the wrong type or size of screw driver.

    • @claymor8241
      @claymor8241 3 роки тому

      @@kristupasantanavicius9093 No he didn't I had the same problem. I spent literally about two hours trying precision screwdrivers and they wouldn't budge. then I just put the smallest phillips head I could find on my standard ratchet screwdriver and they came out.

      Pushing down on the screw while turning is important. Honda does sell replacement screws. The screw material is cheap and in my opinion it should be a stainless screw.

      @@kevlarthewelderreclaimyour1049 a lot of people read the description. If you weren't such a moron you would do it too. Alas, I am fully aware you're not that bright of a person based on the fact that instead of simply googling the battery size and getting your answer in 5 seconds, you chose to ask in the comments. Then had the audacity to act as if he was somehow in the wrong for not saying it in the video but putting it in the description. However, the video wasn't about the kind of battery it is anyway so he really didn't have to mention it at all. The people with brains were grateful he put it in the description. The imbeciles are in the comments asking what kind it is, aswell as being a smart-ass and giving him sarcastic suggestions as to how he should've made the video instead.
