That was waaaaay more difficult than it should have been! I ended up cutting my finger and such! But thank you for your video, it was a huge help!

Cool! I went with a silicone cover after I replaced the battery.

Thanks, ima do this soon to my key. The key is like opening from the key blade side(and turn it with fingers on it) so i had to put duck tape at that end to prevent breaking the circuit board
Interestingly enough my key doesn't have the little support thing for the keyblade, i guess it either broke off or something, i also think i have the original oem housing, the plastic on mine is smooth

You didn't have to cut or have key programmed?

No cutting, no reprogramming. All I did was swap out the housing for the new one. Good luck!

Is there a chip in the 2010 8th gen honda civic?
My old 2006 honda pilot had a small microchip you had to glue in and had to cut from the old housing. It was a PIA.
I don't see a chip in the newer 2010 honda civic.

the housing has nothing on it, just plastic. all functioning pieces transfer right over without any issue.

if you mean the plastic thing around the key blade try running it under hot, hot water or using a blow dryer to warm it up. then apply force to separate the two.

That is NOT the original key fob from Honda. The metal key is housed in the plastic and not easily removed. Not helpful.

the key blade is the original one which was slid off of an original key fob housing. i’ve changed the key fob housing many times since then, so yes what you see in the video is not the original housing.

@@kelvinsgarageso how do you get it out of the original housing? Appears a special tool is needed to insert to get key out. Any advice?

the aftermarket ones are made to be the same as the original. there’s no difference that I can recall.

@@kelvinsgarage agree will be compatible once I can remove key but appears to have 2 small holes and a slot some special device needs to be inserted into. Tried soaking and washing with soap but appears to be almost imbedded permanently. Thought about breaking it but will stop by dealership and ask. Will let you know what they do or say. Have 2 sets of keys and both same. Thanks

@jrozsas13 If you’re talking about the piece around the key blade, try heat (fire or heat gun) or just breaking it because the new housing should have a replacement piece.
