Oh damn. You wanted a russian manicure but then forgot to make sure the tech you went to could perform a russian manicure. Are you in the states. The technique required for that particular type of manicure may not even be legal in your jurisdiction. Why? Because russian manicures heavily manipulate the area near the nail matrix. I do gelx, it’s great for damaged nails.. but it isn’t necessarily “healthier” it’s still the same chemicals that are in acrylics or traditional gels. The damage comes from improper removal, or bad techs that file away your natural nails during application. Finding the right tech is key, and it looks like you found it now 👏👏 yay!!
same ! i get the gel x, i get like medium length almond. i used to get acrylic, & the places i used to go they would get either a press on nail or a nail tip-& pry the nail away from the natural nail. it hurt so so bad & i could see the layers of my nails peeling away. when i finally stopped getting acrylics-my nails got healthier. i am a CNA-i can work with the gel x no problem. my tech removes the nails every time soak off, it’s so much better
They probs used like mma monomer and then had to basically pry it off bc it takes like an hour or more to remove. So it does kinda matter what chemicals are being used bc some dont remove well so they cut corners and gouge it off instead. Using gelx and stuff means even if the next person is incompetent they probs still end up being less damaging to the natural nail.
Gel x is actually chemically different from acrylics for the because you’re not using monomer which can contain MMA or acrylic powder. My nail tech is the best thing that ever happens to me. Each visit I get a nail care baggie with a brush for cleaning under my nails and cuticle oil. After regularly using my oil I have 0 hang nails. Products matter
Never understood why ladies need to decorate your nails so much it end up damaged. Isnt it already enough with damaged hair due to dyeing/perming? Now you wanna have your nails damaged? It doesn't even look good.
Same how do we find local independent nail techs? Have been wanting to get my nails down very nice and not just the basic gel acrylics from salons but I can’t seem to find anything near me ):
independent nail techs are always the best. they take there time and actually give you the quality you pay for. salons are eventually gonna go out of business if they keep treating there clients like shit
I've been a nail tech at the salon, but I always did my best for clients. For sure, I was scolded for being too slow But I was a beginner, so it wasn't a huge problem. Also, there was a problem with machines 🤩 I could make a client wait just because all of the machines are taken by other techs
Independent nail techs are the BEST! I’ve never had a bad experience with them. They’ve all been so sweet and knew their stuff. Plus, if they work from home, it can be a bit less expensive since they don’t have to rent a chair/space.
Yes girl!! I’m so glad you did this! Most salons do not have properly trained technicians. Independent nail techs get proper schooling and always want what is best for their clients!
I was an independent tech for 30 yrs. We don't have anyone with their 'foot on our neck' saying "Hurry up! Aren't you done yet?!!" "No! You have to use cheaper products." "Push this style! It'll cost the client more!" We have control. We can honor our own ethics. We can treat our clients the way they should be treated. Leaving a chain salon was the best decision I made. Nicky is a tech with a conscience. She did a great job. Stick with her! 😊
i LOVE independent nail techs. Their so talented and i love to support their art form, plus just like in this video, they can give you a lot of options and consult you on your nail health.

Sorry to hear that. I actually prefer independent nail techs but I can’t find one in my area. I’ll pay the price for great service. I can never relax at a nail salon because I have to micromanage them and they ALWAYS cut my cuticles. They also damage my natural nails.
It’s that we can’t afford it, a lot of independent techs especially ones with charms like this charge over 100 for a set. I’m not saying it’s not worth it, but just not feasible for most people.
Next time try slavic manicure( russian manicure) and you would not believe that your nails are can look that stunning! Takes longer to get them done, but worth it!
The difference in my nails since ive been going to an independent nail artist has been so noticeable, not only is it so much fun once you get to know them and actually getting cute inspo pictures and it coming out better than expected👏🏻👏🏻
Definitely taking this as a sign ! Every time I go to a nail salon I always feel disappointed. And I’m pretty sure it’s the same price as a independent nail salon😭
Sometimes independent nail techs are very affordable! Some vary as they get more customers so of course sadly they raise prices on a few things .. like charms, designs, different nail colors etc. Which make sense bc they buy those for the service. (Also their time is a big factor as well) Still, many are also very considerate if you want to get your nails done but don’t have a lot of money. Really depends but is possible.
