Hi Gareth, the clip of you when you realised you'd miss the first tram was priceless! I've just sent you an email, as I'd like to use some of that if that's possible? Thanks Paul
It's okay Gareth, I missed the first tram too. Me and my friend were standing right outside with 5 minutes till departure when the doors suddenly closed and the tram left, stunned we watched it then decided to follow after it at a light jogging pace, joining it at the next stop.
Wow we've been to a lot of the same events this year lol we were both at the MrBeast event at the Opera House, the Royal visit at the opera house and now the Parramatta light rail. I was there on the first light rail out of Westmead.
Oddly enough, you caught me, my son and my niece in your last video... then, your next video, you document my sister's work baby... She and her team have won many awards for this project and their innovative environmental views (I don't know her exact role but it's an environmental officer type role). I wonder if you will capture her and her family in one of these videos...?
Generally, tram systems operate in a mixed traffic environment (road / rail / pedestrian) and are required to operate safely at speeds for which driver braking is acceptable. Light Rail systems are generally segregated. Segregation permits higher operating speeds using signal control and automatic braking systems.
Rosehill Gdns station is actually more or less on the site of the the old Camellia Stn on the former Carlingford railway line whilst Yallamundi stop is on the site of the former Rydalmere Station. I think it’s unfortunate that crossing facilities for UWS short workings were not provided at “Yallamundi”, which incidentally is a Sydney Basin Aboriginal word meaning “story teller”.
Gareth - Just on the other point about extending the line to Epping (you kept saying Chatswood but I assume you meant Epping), the problem is that light rail really can't carry that many people, it wouldn't be fast enough to really be competitive as a cross-regional transit mode, and light rail tends to get delayed and disrupted too easily to be function as a proper transit spine in a big city like Sydney or Melbourne, it does that job far better in say Canberra or Gold Coast. So for example the extension you are talking about to Epping as a light rail extension would only be able to carry about 7000 riders per hour per direction, it would take nearly 30 minutes between Parramatta and Epping, and would be prone to delays and disruptions not to mention the issues with the batteries versus overhead wires. The plan they have is much better: they are talking about taking the existing heavy rail line from Liverpool to Merrylands which currently runs to Sydney CBD and instead extending it into new tunnels underneath Parramatta and up to Epping with an interchange stop in that park area you were showing at Carlingford, then at the other end extending it from its current terminus in the SW to the new Western Sydney Airport. This would give you a trip time of less than 10 minutes from Epping to Parramatta (and less than 30 minutes to Liverpool or 45 minutes to the new WS Airport!), and you could carry upwards of 30,000 people if it were converted to Metro. This is a significantly better outcome for everyone including the people living in Carligford and surrounds, you can then extend the light rail to feed the heavy rail!
You’re absolutely right! Yes, I definitely meant Carlingford to Epping haha ✅ I’ve made an amendment in the videos information section clarifying my mistake. Yes, definitely a train line from Parramatta to Epping Is something that’s needed very badly. And that’s a very interesting proposal you said😳 I reckon it would benefit the local economy to have both a tram and train line working from Epping to Parramatta, it seems weird to leave it at Carlingford, there’s obviously room for a connection. Thanks for your message 🤙🏻
@tedes72 thats ancient history now, and a different mode, we are talking about whether the Carlingford light rail should be extended to Epping (or the Parramatta Council plan to Go to Macquarie Park), absolutely no-one has suggested the Light Rail corridor be extended to Chatswood.
You didn’t catch the first light rail out of Westmead, that left about 5 mins early. The one that pulled into Westmead was the Parramatta Square service.
sorry you missed the first service. it is no big deal - it was clearly a subdued beginning by the government at 5am rather than the hype of the city line which was mid morning with a lot of fanfare. when they build stage 2 hopefully you will be around and can be there super early as to not miss it.
@TallBoyGareth1 your more than welcome..My husband n I love you transport bloggers..👏👏😎 Especially Shararth..Phil from Stv..and Paul from Transport blog..You guys are awesome 👌were from the Redlands just off Brisbane..N were actually starting our own Transport blog soon about Brisbane Transport Infrastructure..👍👍

No it was Chatswood. This was the discussion before the Epping to Chatswood line was built
