Actually the Irish contingent has been there almost continuously since 1978 with UNIFIL 1 and UNIFIL 2 Irelsnd has also had unarmed military UN observers in Lebanon since 1956 with the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation .
My dad was a soilder in Lebanon back in 1999/2000 I think, I was a child. Much respect for these Irish soilders. There families must be worried sick. Hopefully isreal comes to sense and avoid all UN Pecekeepers 🙏 God bless The Irish in Camp Shamrock 🍀🇮🇪
Bolster UN positions this a critical moment where UK and Germany 🇩🇪 draw a red line where Israel is concerned. A German UN warship is in the Mediterranean meanwhile Germany is providing arms Uk 🇬🇧 are both providing intel and arms. The State of Israel 🇮🇱 wouldn’t exist had it not been for the United Nations 🇺🇳 when the Balfour declaration was handed over from Britain. The irony the UN 🇺🇳 would unravel the state of Israel 🇮🇱
The Irish involvement in the lab actually goes back into the 50s a small number of observers but the deployment of UNIFIL goes back to 1978 with the first deployment of a much larger number of Irish troops up to the present. The Irish as well as other UN peace keepers are caught up between two sides with a mandate to expel all actors from their area of responsibility The UN along with SLA jointly police the area along the blue line and to provide support for the local residents within the area. The UN force should stand firm against the opposing sides regardless weather they continue to be aggressive towards them or not. This is not the first time this sort of activity occurred within the area of responsibility for the Irish and other UN troops as long as both antagonist are there the Irish will be there guarding the local communities and the blue line respectively.
Israel has crossed the border to push Hizbullah out of southern Lebanon after 12 months of rockets being launched by Hizbullah on the north of Israel. This is necessary because Unifil, which was supposed to have kept Hizbullah north of the Litany river, didn’t. So the ACTUAL real question is, what is Unifil doing in Lebanon? And the answer is, nothing, except getting in the way of Israel’s efforts to do the job that Unifil failed to do. Israel warned them they were in a war zone and asked them to take shelter or relocate. They refused and ended up in the line of fire.
They dont want witnesses to their war crimes. Plus they are not used to being told no which is why Netajew threw a tantrum at the Sec General of the UN yesterday demanding that he move them😂😂 hes a pathetic rabid dog😂😂
They have always been shooting them, ask any of the peacekeepers who served there. Also, look up the Israeli-backed SLA and the Irish peacekeepers killed by them.

UNIFIL was supposed to enforce Security Council Res. 1701 which it has failed to do.

the real question is, why are IDF shooting them?
