Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! I try to be as honest as possible about this life and what it’s really like in hopes others watching don’t fall into the same traps we did.
You & Justin have your heads on straight. Exhibit 1= not needing lots of stuff to be happy. Exhibit 2 = right away building that "deck" that will allow doubling your cabin size. Put 1 & 2 together, get 2 roughed in/dried in, and next winter more inside space w/out a bunch more stuff will help "air out" any cramping. You'll be amazed what that will do. Plus more play area for Dawson inside. Also, smart to locate the stove (heat) in what will be the middle. You got it going on, folks!
Thank you so much! We really appreciate that comment. And totally agree! The extra space will be SO NICE next winter! Especially since Dawson will be a full on running/jumping savage boy by then I am sure 😅
It's great to see your power system, thanks for sharing! I'm a DeWalt guy myself, but you're right about those tool batteries being so useful. Keeping your system as simple as possible, but still having back-up power sources (or storage) is key to making it efficient. I am in the process of reorganizing my power set up, moving my solar panels and upgrading my batteries, but I plan on doing a video on my setup also. It's nice to "compare notes" with others who have similar power consumption needs, and seeing how you tackle the challenge. Looking forward to seeing more! Enjoy! -Dusty
This is another awesome video. I love how you explained how you can power your little cabin with basically a generator and battery. I really like the box Justin built it's a great idea. The best part was how you tell the truth and tell people to do their own research. Dawson has won my heart. Keep the videos coming.
We live in a glorious time for portable off grid electricity. We have a BLUETTI unit here in AZ and with a very small solar panel array it keeps it topped off and on the rare overcast days we use a small generator to charge the BLUETTI. The high amperage charging on these new Eco Flow and BLUETTI units is amazing. It’s nice not having to have the generator running all day long. Also, my 9 year old daughter and I love watching your channel. We look forward to new releases.
That is for sure! I’ve heard great things about the BLUETTI and am so glad it’s working great for you guys! Arizona sounds amazing right about now! I feel like I haven’t felt the sun on my skin in forever 😅 And thank you so much for watching and supporting us! So cool that you and your daughter are watching!
FYI, also NOT connected with any product retailer or manufacturer ... just wanted to note your purchase of Generac 3300i is a smart move. It has built-in parallel circuitry to connect a second unit to double power if you should need it in future. I have also seen a video on a filler device to connect a larger fuel tank, but can't recall where. Anyway, you make smart, well-thought-out purchases (also smart to keep your rechargeable power tools in the same "family"). Best.
But if it's on youtube it must be true! LOL.. Nice video and very good advice for others to do their own research. I was pretty impressed that your Kitchen light is powered by a Milwaukee battery! I'm glad that all is good for your family! Thanks for taking us along.
Right?! Lol and thank you! We love our Milwaukee batteries and are continually impressed with what we can run on them. They’ve been a great addition for us, especially when building! With 24 hours of daylight we could charge up batteries to power our tools all day and night, it was awesome!
Hey H & J! --- FYI --- In your wire connection box outside, check your video at about 4:45. Follow black wire left from yellow; there's a "breach" or cut in the black wire insulation. That needs to be taped up/sealed somehow so moisture doesn't get in.
I meant to mention that in the video, those cords get so stiff in the cold the insulation just breaks. We don’t use that cord in the winter but will for sure get it taped/sealed up before we use it again. I appreciate you pointing it out though!
Good job :) Freedom as much as possible you do what works for you 👍, I have been off grid for 11 years & yes it gets cold here too, Lots of wood cutting to keep the fires going for 6 months of the year ! I actually run my full time cabin With solar & a couple Power stations , so I only need to run my little genny every 3 days to charge up :) I run full size fridge & a freezer internet running water from my well I'm happy works great :)) Have a great evening"
Well said. Anyone trying to live off grid needs to do their own homework on what works. I have an off grid camp and running lead acid batteries back and forth from home to charge up is best for me because I'm not fulltime. If I were, I'd study the best way for my area. There is not a "one size fits all" method. Great job!
My Alaska plan is 10kw LPG gen 500+gal tank, $12k usd from signature solar and you can go 100% 120V AC, 8kw charge 2 hours of gen a day. I had -33C/-27F last year. EG4 6kw with 30kw battery, eliminates months of firewood, plus floor heat. Insulation is a major factor to make it work, my trailer loses 1c per hour from 20C -8 outside. With the big gen full size dryer again, big load dry in 60mins.Adding 8kw of solar 4k. If this is nothing you wanted to see I apologize.
@FinalFrontierHomestead-i5t I watched a lot of off grid that was my idea for Alaska cos the 60 days of darkness. My location now it's 40 min from a big town. Trying to perfect the build so disabled people could use the template and go off grid. No chores for weeks.lpg delivery,100 days of food ,done. My tv area was 91f last night.
I wonder how long you gonna last living in that environment too tough,I know you are positive but man for me seems a lot of hardship like it,s living in the 1900 year ,anyway will keep following you guys on the progress , take care !
It is really tough, I’m not going to lie about that one bit. I’ve had plenty of times where I’ve questioned why I’m still living like this, but then I remember what it was like living in normal society, the stresses of working for someone else constantly and having never ending bill payments, makes me appreciate how simple our life is now. It’s hard work every single day, but at least I’m breaking my back for myself and not for someone else to get rich, while I make barely enough to afford a mortgage and groceries 🤷♀️ Our ultimate goal is to go totally remote, we will see how our bodies hold up living like this and see if we can learn enough to pull it off. Only time will tell. Thanks for following along and supporting us! We really do appreciate it!
I love your videos you have a beautiful family , Just a suggestion what about an A-frame house /=+=\ 💨💨💨 /[][•][]\___ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️
Thank you so much! And we considered an A-frame, but after spending time in a few, they felt claustrophobic to me personally, and in my opinion there is a lot of wasted space inside an A-frame. Though I do know they are easier to heat, it just wasn’t what we wanted.
If you could harness the power of your little son, you'd really have something! How many parents wished they could do that? I know mine did, I guess with me. My brother barely stayed awake during the day. The closer he got to becoming a teenager, he slept more. As for me, total opposite. Heck, I do good now, to sleep over 5 hours a night. So , yeah I was called hyper active as a child. Hey, it was the 70's! Everything was WEIRD! Clothes, houses, and especially people! People were beyond strange! Especially those who were left over from the late 60's, like my brother, 1967! He had a head of hair, now a chrome dome!!!! Really weird dude, never knew what to do with me.🤪😃 I'm a 1970 model. Now, I creak a little, leak a little of everything, smoke a bit, burnt rings you know!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Oh man, now that would be the ticket!! I just need to engineer a little energy bike and put him on it! 🤣🤣 And love your story! I feel like we would have fit in better back in the 70’s than we do now 😅 We both love 70’s music, cars, trucks, we’re just a couple of old souls stuck living in the new world.
I hope you're having a great day. I'm a UA-cam thumbnail designer, dedicated to producing eye-catching thumbnails that represent your channel’s brand. If you’re interested, I’d be happy to provide a sample thumbnail for you to review. If it works for you, we can discuss how we can collaborate on future projects. I look forward to hearing from you!
If living simple dept free was important why did you not look at moving back to MN. Northern part of the state is still very rural and lots of state and federal land to use? and a gallon of milk cost less than $3.00 and is easy to get? also you 2 could of kept alot of your stuff (snowmobiles...) still think you can find 10 ac. lots for $50k
Oh man, I could write you a book on this topic 😅 but I guess the biggest reason is because we WANTED to live in Alaska. We’re obsessed with adventure and living life in what’s left of the “final frontier”. We are also mountain lovers and even though you can’t tell in the videos, I’ve got a view of breathtaking mountains right from my window. Minnesota couldn’t provide the adventure we were looking for, and Alaska was always a place we wanted to live, and after visiting in 2022, we were hooked!
Appreciate the transparency and honesty. Very wise to keep your location private. Look forward to next time. 👍👍

Awesome comment! Thanks Dusty! Totally agree and can’t wait to check out your power video!
Love the simplicity of your setup
Thank you so much!

Awe! Thanks guys!! So glad you enjoyed it! And I’m happy I finally got to show off that box Justin built! It’s so awesome!

That is fantastic information! Thank you! We may have to look into that!
You'll need a Generac connection kit for that, fyi.
All great to know, thank you!

You're in the snow!!
Yes we are! Gotta embrace it right!
Thanks for good honest info. I've actual got a couple of lights that are powered by screw gun batteries.
Absolutely! And that is awesome! We love ours!
Nice video again. Gotta be difficult shooting content and juggling a curious little toddler who's on the move 😂
Thank you so much! And it is definitely a challenge 😅 but he makes it fun too and something else for people to watch if I’m too boring 🤣

@ Some day the current off gridders will too old to split wood, I got options for them.
@@bobmonztr that’s very true, and awesome of you to think of them and find a way to help!

No we haven’t, we aren’t big fans of what’s on tv these days anyways so we’re happy with our little dvd player setup for now 😊
