  • This is a video of the incredible classic hit single ~Eloise~ written by Paul Ryan when he was just 19 and sung by his twin brother Barry Ryan. I shared this some weeks ago on my own personal channel but decided it belongs on this channel.
The title shot shows screenshots of Barry and on the right a photo of Paul Ryan. The backdrop photo is one I took of the night sky which showed a heart shaped moon due to cloud formations which I felt was perfect for how I feel about this song and Barry and Paul's music. I created this video with various performances of the song and clips added to try and fit it to the audio from the CD Barry Ryan "The Singles" . The original single did not have the crazy laughter and crying at the start as this was the ending of the song called 'Crazy Days' before this song from the album ~Barry Ryan Sings Paul Ryan~, somehow fans loved this version and many think this was how the song started, it was not. This video was created and has been uploaded under the terms of Fair Use. No copyright infringement intended. I do hope that the timing of this video will be fine as it was pretty perfect when I created it and sometimes there are errors when uploading this, I hope you enjoy this. In creating this video I wanted to honour Barry and Paul Ryan and remember them fondly and also continue enjoying their incredible music. I feel blessed having met this sunny talented singer and he and Paul will be remembered with love and affection by fans. RIP ~Eloise~ was written by Barry's twin brother Paul and remains one of those classic hits. Some facts about this song. I do have the very first version of this song which was sung sweetly and softly in one take, I will try and share this some day. "Eloise" is a song first released in 1968 on the MGM label. It was sung by Barry Ryan, and written by his twin brother Paul Ryan. Running for over five minutes, it features strong orchestration, melodramatic vocals, and a brief slow interlude. I have read that one of the reasons that Eloise was not number 1 for a long period was the fact that there were not enough singles out for sale and it was very frustrating for Barry and Paul Ryan. It sold three million copies worldwide and reached No. 2 in the UK Singles Chart as published by Record Retailer, but hit No. 1 in the NME and Melody Maker charts. It topped the chart in 17 countries, including Italy, the Netherlands and Australia. The single was released as "Barry Ryan with the Majority". The Majority were a pop band, who for a period, were the backing band for Ryan and who, after renaming to Majority One, had some success in Europe.] Ryan also released an Italian-language version of the song, "Eloise (Versione Italiana)", in 1968. After not being able to cope with the success of some of his hits as a duo with Barry, Paul decided to take a step away from the limelight and to concentrate on songwriting. "Eloise" was the second song he wrote and was influenced by Richard Harris' arrangement of "MacArthur Park" after listening to a rough mix of it at a party at Harris' house. After listening to it, Paul locked himself away and wrote "Eloise" in three days. The song was then recorded at IBC Studios at the end of a recording session with their mother Marion and they had only two takes to do it due to the length of the song. {I have a copy of the first original recording & may share this version, it is sung as a ballad and in a much sweeter way}. The session musicians included Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, both of whom went on to form Led Zeppelin, and Glenn Ross Campbell. Everyone then wanted to go to the mixing desk to listen to the result because it was so unusual and they said it was going to be a big hit. According to Barry, the record influenced Freddie Mercury of Queen. He said in a 2017 interview: "I remember reading Freddie’s memoirs. He was influenced by it. He really, really liked it and also he used it as an argument to release 'Bohemian Rhapsody' because his record company didn’t want to release it but he said “That Barry Ryan had a big five and half minute hit. Why can’t we do it too?”" I will add the lyrics under a comment for you all.

Wow! Tia, that was absolutely brilliant. My favourite song of all time, and the way you tied in all the different clips with the song so seamlessly was something else. I never knew that the maniacal laughing at the beginning was the ending of another song. You learn something every day.
I saw Richard Harris in 'an evening with' in Bournemouth many years ago and he sang MacArthur Park. That was something to behold as well. Hope all is well at your end of the world. Love from the U.K 🇬🇧 xx

Hi Katy, so lovely to hear from you and thank you for your kind words. I remember when I was a young teenie putting on a sample pressing of Barry's first solo album. ( My wonderful kind father used to bring home the early sample pressings of records for me, when I was a child it was fairy tales on vinyl , Enid Blyton stories and then later it was Barry's and Paul's albums). I was blown away by the whole album, I literally did not move listening to the whole album in one go. My father helped me with the translation from English to German as I wanted to learn everything or at least the gist of every song. My school girl English helped but my father helped me more. 😃. I loved that laughter and the clever lyrics of "Crazy Days" and love that song and I will make a video soon for that song and will leave the crazy laughter in it ( I almost feel I need to add Eloise as another option, sort of 2 songs into one video perhaps at a later stage). I think some countries played "Eloise" without that start but most countries played it with the laughter. Whenever I listen to "Crazy Days" I have to also listen to "Eloise". Oh, who am I kidding? I listen to the whole album most of the time anyway🤣. How lovely you got to see Richard Harris perform the song "MacArthur Park". That must have been amazing. The sun is shining here on this Sunday and next week we celebrate Australia Day (2 days before my birthday which is meant to be a very hot day) on Thursday so we have a shorter week so a nice week to look forward to. Hope all is well with you and that you are not too cold, lots of love, Tia xxx

Hello dear Tia! Thank you for the amazing video, everything connected in the best possible way! You are a great master at this. My mother is very ill, she does not get out of bed and I take care of her. But I give you my word that I will come here and to Ben and be charged with positive energy. Watching and listening to Barry is two pleasures rolled into one!

    Song Lyrics :
    Every night I'm there
    I'm always there
    She knows I'm there
    And heaven knows
    I hope she goes
    I find it hard
To realize that love was in her eyes
    It's dying now
    She knows I'm crying now
    And every night I'm there
I break my heart to please
    Eloise
    Eloise
You know I'm on my knees, yeah
    I said please
You're all I want so hear my prayer
    My prayer
My Eloise is like the stars that please the night
The sun that makes the day
    That lights the way
and when that star goes by
I'll hold it in my hands and cry
    Her love is mine
    My sun will shine
    Every night I'm there
I break my heart to please
    Eloise (da-da-da-da-da)
    Eloise
You're all I want, you've got to hear my prayer
    My Eloise
I'd love to please her, I'd love to care
    But she's not there
    And when I find you
I'd be so kind you'd want to stay
    I know you'd stay
And as the days grow old (doo-doo-doo)
    The nights grow cold (doo-doo-doo)
I want to hold her near to me, yeah (aah-aah)
    I know she's dear to me (aah-aah)
And only time can tell (doo-doo-doo)
And take away this lonely hell (doo-doo-doo)
    I'm on my knees (aah-aah)
    To Eloise (aah-aah)
    And every night I'm there
I break my heart to please
    Eloise (da-da-da-da-da)
    Eloise
You are my life so hear my prayer
You are the prize, I know you're there
You're all I want, so hear my prayer
    Yeah, yeah
You're all I need and I'm not there
    You know I'm not there
    No, no, no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
My Eloise, I've got to please her, yeah
She knows I love her, love her, love her, love her, love, love yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
My Eloise, I've got your love for me, so please, yeah
    My Eloise
She knows I love her, love her, love her, love her, love, love yeah
