I've been through this myself after a triple bypass in 2013. Those nurses are very patient and kind, and very determined to get you well again. The open heart surgery is one thing, but careful rehab afterwards is vital. I still do my 40 minutes of exercises every day.
I am giving a presentation to students who are considering studying physiotherapy. This video very accurately demonstrates cardiorespiratory physiotherapy for a post op patient and I am wondering could I include it in my presentation and add the NHS Golden Jubilee in my credits.
i had a 5x heart bypass about 4 years ago at the golden jubilee. i certainly dont remember getting this level of attention from the nurses. i had my operation on the tuesday morning, went to my own room on the wednesday and home on the friday. first physio was from a hairy @rsed man ): on the wednesday who had me walking on the spot then a woman took me for a walk on the thursday. i like to tell my mrs that im that hard even open heart surgery couldnt stop me lol
deep breathing is achieved with abdominal diaphragmatic breathing is the correct way to breathe. The exercise of the diaphragmatic muscle is essential for post-operative recovery in general.
This was not immediately after the operation believe you me, been there, done that or if it was then things have moved on a lot since my procedure 14 years ago.

How did you determine that this is the “correct” way to breath?
