  • I couldn't find a copy of this Harry Warren and Mack Gordon song on UA-cam with good video and audio, so here it is. Pat Friday sings for Lynn Bari, joined by John Payne and the Modernaires. The clip opens with Miller's theme, "Moonlight Serenade".

    This is by far the best version of this song, Pat Friday nails it with this performance, sexy & sultry voice. Nobody else comes close.

    One of the most beautiful ballads of WW2....with the Miller "gloss" at it's finest.

    The sound is so great here! It keeps compelling me to listen and enjoy it even more. (I loved it before even though the sound was a little muddy and unclear) super great restoration!!🤗😁👍

    Must have played this more than a hundred times since I came across it. Lynn Bari is so gorgeous. Too bad the voice doesn't belong to her.

    She is so gorgeous and her voice hipnitzes you. How I wish I was there to experience the whole thing and meet the guys as Glenn called them.

      Sorry Myway Digital, that's the voice of Pat Friday. Ms. Bari had a ghost singer. Just as John Payne had a ghost pianist, Chummy McGregor. I, too, was enchanted by Ms. Bari's performance. Then I did an online search to find other recording by Ms. Bari. Lo and behold, she was in literally hundreds of movies but no recordings. That's when I learned Pat Friday was the ghost singer.

      Glenn insisted the soundtrack be as "perfect" as possible. In fact, when the "playbacks" took place, several of the studio's personnel were also present, just to hear how great the recordings were.

      The Modernaires:
      Hal Dickinson, Chuck Goldstein, Bill Conway, Ralph Brewster
      .........and Pat Friday singing for Lynn Bari on the soundtrack.

    • @Poisson4147
      @Poisson4147 6 років тому +2

      It came out many years later that on some tunes the Modernaires had (uncredited) augmentation by the group Six Hits and a Miss, reportedly because the soundstage equipment wasn't able to balance the band's volume versus just five singers.

      Paula Kelly did the vocal on the commercial 78 release. Pat Friday was under a studio contract so Miller went with his own people for the RCA version.

      After I posted it, I found out it looks like it is not true stereo. The CD that was recently released is in mono: www.kritzerland.com/sunValley_orch.htm

      @@boinx1234 Not so, it was an actual, if unintentional stereo recording of the Miller band. There are also a couple of tracks by Artie Shaw and Tommy Dorsey done using the same method at MGM. The same is true for a few tracks from THE WIZARD OF OZ. Amazon has the two CD's released with Miller's stereo tracks and they also have one available as a download. forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/the-glenn-miller-orchestra-in-true-stereo.58006/

      @@soundz6783 I know all about stereo recordings from films - I have put many up on my channels. But in this case, Kritzerland (who released this soundtrack on CD) went back to the original master tapes and found that no multichannel masters survived. So this is digitally enhanced stereo.
