  • With all the issues in California (& now in Texas with the snow storms) with the power company turning off peoples power for several days or weeks at a time, we wanted to put our Tesla Solar system to the ultimate test. 200+ hours off grid testing during 3 winter storms. Here are the results.

My Uncle is 103 years old. He has been off grid for 103 years. He gets a chuckle from people attempting to go off grid for 20 hours.

"Net Zero" and "Passive House" building techniques need to become the standard for all new construction and retrofits. Solar panels and battery storage for homes and businesses makes economic sense.

I live in Ca. I have been off the grid for 2 years now. I have 56kwh`s of chevy volt battery packs. My 10000 watts of panels that charge my batteries just fine. This is a DIY system I built for about 20k. I do chage my chevy volt also from my system.

I've been 100% solar and off-grid in Ecuador for almost eight years but I don't have all the amenities you guys have. No car, no washer or dryer, no fridge or freezer, no water heater. Basically just laptop, Internet, a bit of light, and charging small batteries. To do more I would need more solar panels.

how do you heat your house?

Nice video. I'm impressed that you were able to charge your cars while disconnected from the grid. Were you running a well pump or is your water from a municipal system and is your furnace powered by natural gas or electric? Just curious as to what was the biggest draws of power inside the house (aside from the cars).

How many powerwalls were you running?

"IT WORKS!!!" I lived the experience of Cali Outage recently and having solar roof+powerwall saved us from all the chaos ,least to say, and power outage. This system works except for Wifi as Comcast outage cannot be avoided. But the rest of the house was working as normal

Do not integrate the off grid mode in the cars, but in the wall boxes.

Well done guys! I love my Powerwall’s! They’ve saved me a heap of times in the Australian heat with the grid just randomly failing.

Great job on the video. It was really informative. I've been wondering how long I could live off grid with powerwalls and you answered it splendidly. Thanks!
