Always love the vlogs with context and content that goes beyond photography. Okay, we both live in areas that people pay real money to come to visit but knowing your own area, wherever you live, is always going to give you a big advantage and save you travelling costs.
Thanks Iain, great to know people appreciate to non-photography stuff as well. I was up on Dartmoor again this morning and it was a special morning, and it only took 40 mins to get there. We are both lucky to live in such rich landscapes. :-)
When Charlotte Bronte described Dartmoor in her novel Jane Eyre, I visualized it much like it is in your video. Just a stunning location. I hope to make it over someday. Thanks for the tour.
Thanks Duane, glad you liked the mini tour. It truly is a stunning place and my video was very much helped by some beautiful conditions. It's not always like that, but I still love it no matter the weather conditions. :-)
Another enjoyable "real world" photography in a beautiful location. Julian I have followed you for years, and it must be difficult to keep your vlogs relevant to a wide range of subscribers. Somehow you always manage to do it, thanks for your inspiration and enthusiasm. Cheers
Thank you so much for that positive comment Ian. Sometimes I wonder why I do it, but comments like that really encourage me to keep sharing my passion! :-)
I really enjoyed this episode. Interesting history for a location that appears free and in disturbed. I enjoyed watching the light change as you waited fir the perfect moment. Beautiful water feature. Thanks for sharing.
Another great insight into Dartmoor! Your knowledge of the area is a fantastic insight into it and it’s a really nice touch to put the what three word locations in. Loved seeing the light come up on the Tor
Thanks Daniel! It's a location I've wanted to shoot again for some time, but each time I went the conditions weren't "right", so I was over the moon when the light finally came up on the tor. There's so much to learn about Dartmoor....I've barely scratched the surface!
Great video Julian - From knowlege the rail tracks you mentioned would have been on an Anti Tank range. Some sort of motorised trolley with a tank target on top would move from left to right, allowing the soldier to perfect ones aim. These days we use electric trolleys but based on a similar principle.
Thanks mate! :-) It would have take proper skill to shoot a moving target. I said in the video it was about 400m to the target, but what I didn't mention were the cross winds! Interesting to know they still do a similar thing but with electric trolleys. I would imagine communications these days is via radio/sat phones rather than a hard wired telephone system?
Another great video Julian. Some really interesting places you showed us. I was very interested in the Military Railway for the shooting range. All the best mate.
Your summing up was spot on. Just to walk the moors is exhilarating, taking everything in, and discovering new sight's and place's. My wife absolutely loves Dartmoor and, (this is the best bit) really doesn't mind me setting up the tripod and taking the time to capture a scene, and if you've ever shot medium format film you'll know how long that takes 😅. I shoot with a Fuji GSW 690😊
Thanks Kit! Walking on moors is indeed exhilarating....especially when the weather is wild! I can't even get my dog to sit still long enough to take photos. lol
@@jbairdexp I've been following you for some time now, and you produce some of the best landscape images on utube. I find it remarkable that there isn't a Julian Baird book of the British landscape. Your work is remarkable, from concept to print the images you produce are just stunning. SO... could there be a landscape book by Julian Baird in the pipeline? I'd certainly buy one. Keep up the good work mate, your inspiring a lot of people. 👍👍👍
That's very kind of you to say Kit. No book on the horizon, but there is a zine in the works at the moment so keep your eye open for that. :-) (Be sure to be subscribed to my newsletter as well).
Another great video Julian. Love the way you add the WhatThreeWords reference to where you are. Extremely helpful. I just hope there aren't 15,000 of your subscribers there when I turn up. 😊

If it wasn’t clear before how much and why you live this place it’s crystal now !! Great video Pal, fascinating area for sure
Thanks mate. Same for you....you can clearly see why you love Ireland by watching your vids. :-)
Nice to know little bit more about Dartmoor.

Thanks for watching Tim. There's so much cool stuff all about Dartmoor. I'm glad I'm spending more time getting to know it.
Thanks. Would love to visit the area some day.
I hope you make it here some day. And thank you so much for the donation! I really appreciate it. :-)
I don't venture up to the northern part of the Moor, so found this an interesting video Julian, thanks for sharing.
And thank you for watching Simon. I think the Okehampton range area is probably my favourite part of Dartmoor. :-)
@@jbairdexp I'll have to check it out then 🙂

Really great video Julian. Yet more places added to my ever growing list. 😂 Hope you’re well. Dave
Thanks Dave....the list will only get longer, not shorter! lol
