    It’s crazy that the Evo X had the following in 2008 stock:
    Front mount inter cooler
    Front mount oil cooler
    Twin scroll turbo
    Forged pistons
    Front Strut bar
    Recaros
    When I had my STi I wanted all of the above, so I just caved and bought the Evo. You’re right the subie needs better cooling, how have they not addressed it in 2019, crazy to me.

      The WRX comes with a stock oil cooler but it uses coolant to cool the oil not an actual cooler like the perrin unit. The fa20dit can handle and make 400whp stock turbo, stock block, stock transmission.

    I know this video is 3+ years old but I do have a top mount mishimoto oil cooler on my 2018 wrx with a VIS v2 hood and oil Temps are amazing. My 4" ETS intercooler and Koyo radiator have no heat soak issues because of the cooler being top mount. SGood did an amazing job. Noted, I did make custom black PTFE oil lines to the oil cooler because the lines that came with the kit are to long and look like crap, if you are considering going this route I would recommend the same.

    You are right on target about the s209. Laughable at best. For the cost, no way. Even the 2020 Camry trd is said to be a whopping 300 how. Right there with the sti. All I know, Subaru needs to up their power cause competitors are passing up wrx in terms of stock power.

      White Wing STI_E36 the Oil Cooler from Perrin and Mishimoto both come thermostatic and have a 180F thermostat installed. Mishimoto also has the option of buying any thermostat you want for $5 and it will keep it at whatever temps you would like.

  • @substringzero1807
    @substringzero1807 5 років тому +2

    The Mustang and the STi are for different demographic. The Mustang is for those who like drag racing and like to compete with the size of their private parts. On the other hand, the STi is for those who enjoy the excellent road handling. STi is not a drag racing car. It is really apple to orange. Similar price range does not make the two cars comparable. You should know that.

    • @CarsWithJR
      @CarsWithJR  5 років тому +2

      Of course I know that. That's why I said they "indirectly" competed against each other. The Mustang now has amazing handling capabilities and is no longer a straight line only car. For $50k, the Mustang GT350 is a more capable car around a track than a 50K RA.

    Odd question. Can't you run both oil coolers at the same time? The s209.. meh, I feel like its just a different trim STI. Really need a whole new design both body and engine to give me that wow factor. Just my imo. How much cooling does this give oil vs the front mount? - nvm you answered this as i kept watching =p. Looks like a sold product, will have to add it to my list of items.

    • @sgoodperformance2287
      @sgoodperformance2287 5 років тому +3

      Chad D no you can’t run both and there is no need to. The oil coolers actually are thermostatic which only allow the oil to run through them when it reaches a certain temp so they don’t cool the oil too much. The Perrin and Mishimoto Oil Coolers come with a 180F thermostat that works perfectly with our engines.

      The s209 was nvr supposed to be a new design. The s205, s206, s207, s208 all were the ultimate editions of that generation. Also its a limited production car so bnb its gonna be expensive. Look at a damn 22b sti same thing

    • @CarsWithJR
      @CarsWithJR  5 років тому

      My oil temps will top out at 190 in these cold ambient temps. 1500 miles is overkill.

    • @tyriddik2282
      @tyriddik2282 5 років тому

      @@CarsWithJR I was thinking under 200 could keep it from burning them off. Only reason I haven't went for oil cooling, my temps average about 210, and I read 200-220 is where you want your daily. Idk like you said in your video I'm not a mechanical engineer 😂😂

    • @CarsWithJR
      @CarsWithJR  5 років тому

      Target temp depends on the oil and weight. The golden rule is 160F minimum before going WOT. At autocross, track, and hot days, my temps can go up to 250-260. Having an oil cooler in winter is easy. Most make a block of "plate". Scissors, material and tape over the cooler. Having it top mounted makes it easy to access. Also, they are relatively easy to install and remove.
