      I came across this video when wandering on u tube (not a good place to linger!) , but this video is spot on , yes the voice (as someone mentioned), the content ... Your trick to tell a story to link all the items we were supposed to memorize works wonders! I happen to be very bad at remembering item and stuff. However the day after,without any effort, I managed to remember all the items while telling the story in my mind. Very good trick indeed! Bravo monsieur!

    Hello everybody. At 33:00 I've been able to remember 20 words out of 20. I imagined this: A monkey sat reading a book close to an old red telephone of which the handset is a sausage. The telephone rings and the monkey presses a button, then the animal eats a cabbage and drinks a glass of water. When seeing a mouse passing by there, the monkey catches the mouse and puts it in its stomach. Somebody comes and catches the monkey to put it in a cardboard. The cardboard with the monkey inside travels by ferry to England and is given as a Christmas present to a little girl who wants the monkey to become an athlete, so she trains it (lifting weights). She calls her monkey "Wigwam" and every night she puts it in a cage and locks this cage with a key. The little girl grows up and gives birth to a baby. She puts her baby to bed then. As she wants a nice bedroom for her baby, she asks Wigwam to paint the baby's bedroom with a paintbrush. But the monkey is angry this time and shows its walnuts (we do say this word in France) to the mother. Let's see what is your tip, though… EDIT: Oh, yes, I already knew this technique… Thank you for reminding me of it, Luke, by the way. I will try to use it for revising history… Maybe Mao Zédong who participates in a long-jump tournament but fails. However, Mao claims he has won and wants the judges to admit he jumped a 66 meters length. The judges are not very enthusiastic so Mao sends them on a trip around the world to buy books and read them in each place they visit. But red people come from nowhere and kill the judges. Mao is so angry about those red people that he wants them to pick up sticks and lay the sticks straight. And so on.

      Hi, The “cc” button on the UA-cam screen while you are playing the video should be able to automatically generate, fairly accurate, English subtitles. I use this feature when a Luke’s podcast is not substitute ready.

    Hello Luke, thanks for this interesting enjoyable and very useful podcast. But I'd like to ask you why you write the word "colourful" using American spelling (without "u")?

    • @LukesEnglishPodcast
      @LukesEnglishPodcast  26 днів тому

      I didn’t write it actually. It’s an automatically generated script, and I missed the fact that it spelled some words in the American way.

    Colorful, or colourful, that is the question.

    • @LukesEnglishPodcast
      @LukesEnglishPodcast  3 роки тому

      It should be colourful (UK) but perhaps the software I used to make this video spelled it colorful (US) and I didn’t spot it when I proofread the script.

    • @notcricketer
      @notcricketer 3 роки тому

      Glad to see people like you teaching English on UA-cam. The history of English has been coloured by Americanism since humans began to use software. I may be too sensitive about American spelling as I was born in Japan. The mighty power of the USA can be seen everywhere in this country -- in the English textbooks used at school, in the brain cells of the right-wing politicians, and in the economic dream of some greedy guts.
