During my last acid trip I listened to this song and the entire night I sat on the beach staring into the fire with this song playing over and over in my head as I thought about the fragile balance between life and death and the bittersweet melancholy of existence. Honestly, i think her singing is beautiful, granted its beautiful in a very specific aesthetic sort of way, but i love listening to her music. She rocks the voice shes got and honestly how could we ask for anything better?

It's about their childhood. In another version of this song, Bianca says "Simon" in the first verse. Simon is Sierra and Bianca's brother who commited suicide, so that's what the first verse is about. The chorus is about their childhood. The second verse is about their parents.

So I think this song is about a large family of 7 kids. The father killed himself. That's why they are in pursuit to heal their mothers pain. And why they go to Spirit lake, to visit pappy

The chorus talks about before their dad “died” (became an addict) with a distinct poignant tone, leading me to believe that they’re trying to hold onto those memories. The verse after the first chorus, the one that talks about their parents being young and in love, is said in a way that makes me think the children know that they can never have that innocence of being young and without worry, as they’ve had to become the “parents” of their parents. Lightning strikes could be referring to abuse, as in “strikes”. “Pink hot flashes” could be referring to the phrase “red hot flashes” which means losing control of your anger. “We climbed the rocks in snow and rain” could be referring to the extent they went to to try to make their mother happy while she is in this terrible situation.
I think that “lemonade” is very significant though, and possibly refers to the problem always being there, as the lemonade is present even in the happy memories
