I love, love, love that bag. I bought my daughters (in their 30s) each a monogram Speedy for Thanksgiving last year. My girls have inherited a love for handbags from their mom. For both of them, this is their first Louis Vuitton. I explained the story behind the Speedy. I wanted to give it to them at Thanksgiving versus Christmas because Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I wanted them to know how thankful I am that I get to be their mom. It’s a moment we shared between just the 3 of us that we all will always remember. Love an iconic bag with history and style.
Hey there, I think that classic handbags can be worn by anyone regardless of the wearer’s age, too. A twenty-something can carry a Lady Dior, Kelly or Speedy and so can a 50 or 80 year old without being out of place or looking silly. Great conversation. Thanks for sharing.
I think what makes them truly timeless is that they are attached to a celebrity. And as long as this celebrity has stood the test of time, the bag does too.
No always. Jane Birkin no longer wishes to have her name associated with The Birkin becuase she is against the use of animal products. She has not been successful in her request to have her name not be used in association, but this has not reduced its desirability unfortunately, nor did it prompt Hermes to source sustainable or animal free alternatives to leather.

I recently bought my first genuine lv 25yr old speedy 35 in excellent condition. I'm not a logo flashy type of person but it seems the older canvas monogram is a bit more subtle(contrast is not as sharp) and the vachetta has a beautiful even patina which made for a gorgeous bag I couldn't resist.
Agree with your selections. I have the speedy in 25 and 30 in monogram, DE and epi leathers(red, blue and green) and they’re all vintage. quality is very good. I only have one Lady Dior and I seldom used it but I will never sell it. looks classy and timeless.
I have two speedy’s a classic 30 in monogram, and a 30b DE - I love them so much, they will always be my fave bags in my collection. The 25 was just a bit too small for me as I am 5ft 8ins. I also love the slouchiness of them, I tried a bag organiser and took it out. I love your content so much xx
For me it's the Speedy. A timeless classic and you can carry half of your house in it. I've had mine for more than 20 years. Glad I bought it back then (cost me only £200 😁).

I shopped from a Japanese vintage reseller, and the process was so easy - the bag arrived the very next day from my purchase. you inspire so many of us everyday Jess - keep doing you!

Love my speedy 30 ❤ At nearly 6 feet with size 11 shoes the 25 gives nano vibes on me 😂 I don’t frequently swap bags so she does a lot of heavy lifting. French vintage by choice, I converted it to a bando myself with brass fixings because I’m not a fan of the leather chaps on the sides of the og speedy B. Non branded brown guitar strap and an organizer, it’s hard to beat ❤
For me the classic bags are simple geometry, trapezoidal, rectangle, half moon, box bag, in a smooth textured simple hardware. Why because smooth leather has been around forever, simple hardware does not date it to trend, my favorite is he rectangle shaped bag!
I like my speedy 20, i think it truly has the potential to become part of the classic collection. I waited 16 years to get my speedy since i waited for a speedy with straps and zipper that could go down on the sides. Also i like that the speedy 20 does not sag or look loose or boxy, in that way the speedy just has the potential to look great many years of taken care of.
Here's the dillio for me with the speedy (and other Boston bags) I have like 10 hahaha. I think it starts because it's very practical and it's lv and entry level price for luxury. Lots of people start with Lv. However as people's collection grows they find their style and bam! Sell the speedy to another beginner. I think. Because most people don't have a priority for top handle and either want something with less vachetta or more specific aesthetic. I'm a top handle first, rain on the vachetta, I hard die fan of lv monogram so I am a speedy loyal. But after many Boston bags I can tell it ends up not being a great fit for everyone although it 'seems' like it is at first glance. I think the new speedy are the small keepalls because they have less vachetta and a more distinct style so I think new generation's speedy will be those small keepalls.
I have 2 classic speedys. Speedy 25 in damier ebene print and a monogram speedy 30. That's the only style that I like , not the bandouliere. I just like the clean look of a classic speedy. No leather on the sides of the bag and not too much hardware. My monogram is only a couple months old so the leather hasn't patina yet. Wished I'd known Lv years ago, I would've had a vintage looking speedy by now. To me there's nothing lovelier when the vachetta starts to patina. 😃

I made the unfortunate mistake of using it as a cross body and busted the chaps. Not the smartest idea 😂 so I’m gonna sell my speedy 30. It’s lovely but i have a neck and back issue now so I cant be carrying a bag on my arm any more. I’m totally bummed about it. Even a shoulder bag effects my neck and my nerve gets pinched. I just have to look into different handbags now. Great video as usual 😊❤

i enjoy the retro bags. when you see them side by side with their contemporary versions, they stand out as different because of their simplicity. the modern versions have been tweaked or embellished to give them a new life. that's all good, but nothing beats the prototype. it's the master copy.
I really want a larger kelly retourne bag but, while I love the look of the box calf, I think a togo would be more practical and easy to wear casually. I have a kelly 25 in sellier and it's a cute bag but I've been really eyeing the larger bags lately. And I will say I love my birkin 35 so maybe it's time to bite the bullet and get a large kelly bag before they become popular again!

For the lady dior I prefer the champagne gh but for the 2.55 I love love love a vintage velvet in black with the shiny gh. I can pretend I'm in the 1940s going to the theatre or something 😊
I don’t think iconic has to equal classic. If you think of the most iconic dresses, you think of the safety pin Versace dress worn by Liz Hurley, the swan dress worn by Bjork, the black cocktail dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany , etc
The Dior 95/22 is doing way too much, slouch, leather on handle, crossbody. It reminds me of the Chanel 19 as a ‘reboot’ - puffy, 2 tone hardware, chain top handle and strap. Both make me think that the houses have just run out of ideas! Congrats on your 10k. You’re awesome🌈

Does anybody know how the metals age on Hermes and Chanel? I hear things about chipping on some and it's like, how do we tell? Especially if we're looking online?
It depends on the age. Hermes hardware tends to age well if you keep it in the right conditions (not too humid or with stickers stuck on for many years which can peel off the top layer). The gold Vintage Chanel HW can fade quite badly. Modern day Chanel Hardware isnt as good quality as modern day Hermes if you were to compare
That's Audrey Hepburn at the airport with her speedy in the early 1960s, not 1950s. You can tell from the mini skirt, simple lines and relative informality.

I have 3 vintage Speedy bags, two 30’s and a 25. The 25 (in damier ebene) is my favorite, as I am a petite 5’3” They are classic and so versatile!
