Based on my riding ability, with the right tyres and reasonable suspension it handles as good as anything for my capability. You may like to raise the foot pegs a little to get some more clearance but that is about it.
On the street and country roads, I ride quicker with the street triple because its lighter, more agile and I can move quicker in and out of corners. The CBR 1000rr has too much power for the street so you carry unusable power which translates to added weight and more fuel consumption. IMO On the track the CBR 1000rr is quicker and overall better. In saying that they both do a good job on street and track, however, if you lean more towards track riding then I would go with the CBR. If you do more street riding then I would go with street triple. You will still have plenty of fun with the triple on the track.
Peter 140 Thanks so much. Very helpful to my decision making as I am currently shopping. Any model year recommendations for the Street Triple or all years are good? And Street or Street Triple R? Mostly street riding by the way. Would love to ride on a track but it is very far away so not sure if I would go.
I recommend track to anyone as it will give you more confidence and make you a better street rider. There are groups suited to novices. All street triples get good reviews so go with the latest model that your budget allows. I would choose a street triple over a street triple R if they were at the same price but the plain street triple was a later model with less kms etc..
the sound of a triple is very distinctive. How does the upright bike go for handling on track?

Peter 140 This or cbr1000rr with comfort bars for street, motorway, and country riding?
