I made two variations of this pie; one with butternut squash, the other without it. The pie without the squash tastes better, I just added a little less milk so the pie held better.
I made this for Thanksgiving and my non vegan family loved it! Even better than the non vegan desserts on the table 😊Thanks so much for sharing this ❤️❤️❤️
I made this last night and had to come back to leave my review. After I started getting my sweet potatoes and butternut squash ready I soon realized I was supposed to bake them not boil them. I thought it was going to turn in a big mess. I only had sweetened almond milk and didn't have old spice. Well, I am glad to say that it turned reaaaaaally good, like incredibly delicious. I also skipped the part of making the crust since I bought it from the store. I am really thankful for you and for this recipe. Here I am in February eating sweet potato pie with my non vegan family that happened to love it as well. I owed it to my dad who harvested like 50 sweet potatoes from his garden. Next time I'll bake the sweet potatoes. I guess that will take it to the next level!!!
Honestly, when I make vegan pumpkin pie, it is at least 50% sweet potato :) The two work well together, the taste is beautiful and it holds up so nicely. I love them both, so for this recipe, I do 50/50 sweet potato/pumpkin. I have made this all sweet potato as well, and I also eat it all meals of the day!
I've never had sweet potato pie before - it's not something I've seen here in the UK but you've sold it to me! I was almost eating it with you!. I can tell from just the ingredients you've used, that it's going to be absolutely delish!! Thanks for sharing 😊
I made this recently with the cornstarch and vanilla soy milk replacement for the filling. I replaced the butternut squash with sweet potato. For the nutty crust, I use white flour and walnuts instead of pecans and omitted the vanilla extract. This was amazing. The pie was still firm enough and the crust was divine. I love the texture, flavor, and complexity of the crust. I highly recommend this!
Jenne! Thanks a million for this recipe!! It's my go-to every year since 2019...and it continues to blow people away! Ironically, I actually AM now mostly raw vegan lol! 😄 But like yourself, I grew up on it and could NEVER fathom life without SPP! 🥧 Not only is your recipe a knockout with everyone I prepare it for(especially my man lol 😉)...it's tastes even better than the non-vegan recipes I grew up on!! This recipe is the definitive one for SPP period. A heartfelt thanks!! 💖
I wish I was one of those taste testers. That sweet potato pie looks really fabulous. I'm truly thankful for your beautiful channel and have a great holiday.
It’s in the oven now. I’ll let you know how to goes tomorrow after it’s cooled. I’m so excited!!! It’s for my friend’s birthday and she LOVES sweet potato pie! ❤️❤️❤️
I must tell everyone that this pie recipe is the ultimate! I did mix in one yam, 1 super big white sweet potato and 1/2 a butternut squash and one sweet banana. I also used swerve brown sugar 1/2 cup instead of regular brown sugar (diabetic) and a 1/4 cup monkfruit powder. It was the perfect sweetness. Thanks so much for the recipe, I'm sure it will be a hit on the Thanksgiving day table. :)
Hunni, devour is the term that is the plan lol. This was my absolute favorite pie prior to me becoming vegan. I'm guilty as well of being able to eat the whole pie, so I'm thankful that you alter the recipe in a healthier version to accommodate my new lifestyle.
I just fixed another sweet potato pie a few days ago using your recipe. I cut the brown sugar in half (only used 1/4 cup), and replaced all the white sugar with SweetLeaf organic Stevia (I used twelve 0.8 g packets of Stevia to replace 1/2 cup white sugar). I thought it might not be sweet enough for me, but to be honest, it's almost too sweet!!!! Next time, I'm thinking I might use only 10 packs of Stevia. I'm still using the store bought pie crusts, but am working up to using your recipe to make my own piecrust. I'm not really a cook, but these are too good to go without. This recipe, and your book are AMAZING!!! After going for years without sweet potato pie in LA, I think I've probably fixed about a dozen these past two years!!!
I made this recipe for Thanksgiving AND, don't tell anyone but I ate one whole pie by myself😳😂😂😂. I had alot of the mixture left over for Christmas and made phyllo sweet potato in muffin pans. Even a month later and it is still sooooo delicious. Well done with this recipe.
Just made this yesterday and I must admit at first I thought I'd messed it up because it was sort jiggly and left it in the oven a little longer than 50 minutes trying to cook it more, big mistake! and I didn't wait to cut it, another big mistake! It was hot and mushy, not like the traditional sweet potato pies I'm use to baking. But I figured I'd let it cool over night and see what it would look like in the morning. The next day it was superb! It had settled and was firm. I will be making this one a staple! Thank you for this amazing recipe!
Just tried your recipe a few days ago!!! AMAZING!!!! I didn't do the crust because I had one of those pre-made pie crusts left over from years ago before I became vegan, and I wanted to use it up. I can't even believe how GOOD this turned out. I'm not even that good a cook. It was so easy to make!!!! Looking forward to doing the crust too next time!!! This was SOOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!!
My daughter just got done making your sweet potato pie recipe from your book, Sweet Potato Soul: 100 Hundred Vegan Recipes, the pie's cooling right now, but I can't wait to try it. I tasted the pie batter before it was baked and it was so, so delicious. :)
I'm making this tonight & giving one of the pies to my boyfriend to bring to his family's thanksgiving. Can't wait to see how it turns out! Seems like the perfect way to make a lovely impression without being able to be there physically :)
SweetPotatoSoul just reporting back again to say that this pie is the best!! I'm making it for my 4th time right now & it somehow seems to get better every single time 🤤
Today is Cook a Sweet Potato Day! Thank you for sharing this sweet potato video. I'm taking so time out today to learn some new sweet potato recipes! This looks like one I will defiantly have to try. I'll also be celebrating on my channel with a new sweet potato recipe. Thank you for sharing! Happy #CookASweetPotatoDay ! I hope you get to enjoy a sweet potato today!
Thank you for the wonderful recipe! I just made your pie for my Thanksgiving dinner today.... it was phenomenal! The best sweet potato pie i've ever made... it was a huge hit, and it sure didn't last long!!! Already thinking about baking these again. I pretty much followed the recipe exactly... but i subbed coconut milk for soy since that was what i had on hand -- i don't think it affected the final product much. Cheers!
I'm going to make this for Christmas this year. I'm not American and have never tried sweet potato pie but I love sweet potatoes way more than squash or pumpkin so this will definitely be good :)
I just came across your channel, after looking for vegan pies, and i've already watch 18 of your videos. Love you.. i cannot wait to make this. Much love
Loved this! Too many pumpkin pie recipes were flooding my timeline & I was fortunate enough to stumble on your recipe. Can’t wait to use up the extra sweet potatoes I have in my kitchen.
yumm i think i would like this and especially my dad. deferentially making it sometime . even when i was a non vegan i had sweet potatoes all the time like everyday almost
i think i would use normal pie crust... I like simple crust with pie, BUT i think id have to give this a try jus because you mentioned it really complimented the pie!
My only experiences with spp were as an ovo-lacto vegetarian and they were all dense and claggy and could have stood to replace dinner, as well as dessert! This recipe looks like it makes a pleasant tasting pie that won't still be digesting in 2017 ; ) TFP, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Just tell me this, have older African American's from the South tried and liked this recipe? Folks will kill me if I make this an it tastes vegan. Do you feel me? lol
I had my mom and dad taste the purée before I baked the pie, and they liked it. I completely understand where you're coming from; I'm always trying to find good vegan southern recipes.
You do not know how I thank you that you put the ingredients in the information box because I do not speak English and there are things I do not understand ... greetings from Spain !!
Both the crust and filling look delish and easy to make but the filling consistency just looks to soft/mushy for my taste. Could you add more flour/arrowroot to make it firmer?

drinabooboo noted!
i hate that sqash
Thanks for sharing, did you use tofu in the second version?
@@mariajones62 You're welcome Marie! And no I didn't use tofu; only sweet potatoes.
@@mariajones62 You're welcome, Maria! And no, I didn't use tofu.

Sophy Colón I boiled the sweet potatoes and roast the butternut squash.
I made this baby again tonight. This recipe is never going to get old with me. I love it. Ready to impress my coworkers tomorrow.

Looks seriously so good! wow. On my to bake list ;)
Both the crust and filling look delish and easy to make but the filling consistency just looks to soft/mushy for my taste. Could you add more flour/arrowroot to make it firmer?
Oooo! Your soul speaks to me. 🙏🏻 Blessings
