Hi Debra, Re: Cyanoacrylates (super glue) vs. 2-part epoxy. You’re correct in that using epoxy would solve all issues. However, sad to admit but I’m too impatient to wait the hours required for the epoxy to cure😉. Therefore it’s perfectly legitimate to use super glue when constructing the Intarsia and as a final step, attaching a backing with epoxy. This will head off any potential negative issues resulting for the use of super glue. Additionally, the Loctite Gel super glue I now use claims to be “water/moisture” resistant as well as less susceptible to shock/vibration. Regardless, in the 20+ years I’ve been doing this, I’ve never had any pieces come apart due to glue failure.
Hint on the super glue in that type of dispenser. Before you activate the dispenser, the part that you pinch for the glue can be removed by holding the top and pulling out the bottom, it just pulls out, then cut with clippers each side of the top. You now have the full tube to use because the other way wastes a lot.
I haven't had so much fun learning in ages 🥰🤣 However..makes my wrists hurt; why not put a piece of pool noodle over the edge of your grinder tray? Second random thought...if your drill is turning opposite the direction of the grinding wheel, it may result in faster cutting....? GREAT video, much better than many of the other videos from the school I've watched. They need to put your camera skills to work with Diane Mason, so I can actually see what she's doing, for instance.... Thank you so much!
I have used a regular drill press before. The drilling process is pretty messy (I.e. wet) so I tried to prepare the area so everything wouldn’t get wet and possibly rust.
check with a local rock and gem club to get some ideas for sources. The best place other than the local clubs is probably rock and gem shows. EBay sells slabs but they can be pricey.

Hello, I've done this numerous times as follows. Drill part just way into the stone with the core drill of the size hole you want. The depth will be determined by the stone's thickness. I usually try to judge it as roughly half way. If you have a precision drill press you can set a stop. I just use a cheapie drill press so do it by eye. At this point, take a small diameter drill or core drill and begin drilling a series of random holes into the center plug of material that you want to remove. Eventually you'll gradually eat away all of the center plug material. The bottom of the cavity will be rough but it won't matter since you'll be filling it in with another stone or maybe crushed stone/epoxy mix. Let me know if you have any further questions. Good luck👍
