We took a man who has never been on a bike before and sent him around Silverstone at 180mph with the help of MotoGP and BT Sport.

I did this with Randy at Silverstone in 2015. I've ridden all kinds of big road bikes since 1979 and, trust me, nothing - nothing - prepares you for his skill and the bike's abities. It's like being plugged into the Matrix. We topped 195mph, the braking forces launch you off the rear mouse mat. One lap was more than enough, we're not as good as we think we are.

Just reminded me of a friend who used to race a 600 Honda. He went up to Mallory Park for a practice day. He thought he was a legend that day. Putting in some proper lap times and passing bikes left, right and centre. As he was on a flyer he got to long right hand bend at the end of the straight, cranked it over, knee down etc. At that moment someone passed on the outside like he was going backwards!
It turns out to be Ron Haslam on the JPS Norton. As he said afterwards. He thought I might as well chuck it in now. I will NEVER be able to that quick!

I had a very similar experience. I was lucky enough to ride with Frank Kelsey, the 3 times wheelbarrow pushing world champion. I sat in the barrow and he pushed me around the allotment. We went really fast down the path and it was buttock clenching time as we took the left hand bend past the runner beans. Thankfully we got round in one piece. It was a once in a lifetime experience.

Being a passenger on a bike is a skill unto itself. I remember a 2-up ride where I just had my hands on the bars holding them still; the passenger was gently leaning back and forth, unconsciously steering the bike. We were on a major country 2-lane, a State Route, that gently wound through the countryside. The passenger didn't know he had been doing all the steering until we got off bike and told him!

Racers are the biggest babies/scaredy cats. Yes, racers don't like it much at all when others are in control. I use to race also for years, folks were more comfortable usually on the back of my bikes than in my cars, generally, but we also use to really fuck with each other. That's what racers do. One time they had a call for folks to help dry out a track. I took my racevan out with a couple of buddy racers. They were literally scared shitless when I decided I was going to get the fasted unofficial lap in a cargo van. I believe I still hold the record today at Summit Point. ;-)
