During the decades spanning the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, Albert Productions emerged as an influential powerhouse in Australia, reshaping the very fabric of Australian pop music.
Guided by Ted Albert and the collaborative efforts of songwriters/producers Harry Vanda and George Young, Alberts fostered a collective of artists including Billy Thorpe, The Easybeats, Stevie Wright, AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, The Angels, John Paul Young, TMG, and more.
This assembly dominated the music charts, garnering global recognition. Yet, their music wasn't always gentle. The Alberts' guitar resonance mimicked the pulsating vigor of a V8 engine, echoing the resilient migrant neighborhoods from which it originated.

The particular flavours that Vanda and Young added to so many good bands-not the least is AC/DC-was what created a particular sonic that all rockin' Australians know. The Angel's muted guitar was probably the greatest of all the 'Australian sounds' we were being fed.
I've heard it said that what music you love as a 15 year old boy is the music you will love all your life. With a passion. One can't escape that love even if one tried.
As an American that believes Rock-N-Roll is life, and who would want to be Australian had I not been born in America, I find this absolutely fascinating.
Stevie Wright had a tragic life addicted to Heroin ruined his Career & his Health, deep sleep & shock therapy left him with Brain damage. 😢

Growing up Australian in the ‘60’s, ‘70’s and ‘80’s was a gift. We were so blessed to have our own world class local music scene.. while also being tuned in to both the UK and US charts. Our whole world revolved around music. But, at the centre of our country, the spirit and the heart, is a big, red rock named Uluru, and rock we do.
A pub on every corner , and a live band playing in every one of them , from the 'Gong' , to Gosford .
Not a single soul ever thought we'd lose it .
We baby-boomers are all still so very united from our blessed live music scenes together.
My mum is in her mid 70's and she's a huge AC/DC fan, we always had some AC/DC playing on the stereo when I was a little kid, I'm 53 years old now and I'm still a huge AC/DC fan.
As a 55yr old Australian, I approve this doco. I grew up with the aussie sound.
Unfortunately, I think we have lost alot of our unique sound in modern times. Tho, for a while there, we had the best music, up there with America and Great Britain ❤

I was 13 in 63 I grew up with the best music in the world I went to Homebush High a couple of stations from Ashfield.
Angus my hero damn he rocks Australia never had great music until the seekers came up set the scene. Love this story. Such a humble band, God Bless. I wish my parents went to aus.

A fellow i know has the original studio monitors from Alberts in his studio.
I felt honoured to see and hear them and I guess most of this music was played through them as it was recorded and mixed.
Amazing history right there in those old black boxes.
As a speaker nut (well, casually), can you PLEASE tell us more about them?!

We recorded an album at this studio with Steve Albini.Not that it helped our career much but still.
Steve absolutely loves ACDC.
So Mick says to Steve "well you might be a bit interested that those speakers there are from Alberts Studio" Well Steve sure was and so were all of us.
Strangely enough such icons were not set up as control room monitors.
They were just in the recording room as monitors to chat to the band on if i have it right.I guess while they have their history,age and technology has come a long way surpassing them.

Young & Vanda were famous for writing hit ballads, yet AC/DC never did a single ballad they were just balls to the wall rock n'roll.
Love Song off the Australian release of High Voltage is 100% a ballad.
Love Song was a ballad, and while it's debated whether or not Ride On can be considered a ballad it certainly isn't a typical rocker of their's.

I was talked into buying the re-master of "Back in Black" s yes they are doing something right. Pre-Beatles.
I could not look at Stevie Wright, and see him the way he was, and the damage done to himself through drugs.. He has so much potential. It is very sad.

The Easybeats belong at the beginning, but who inspired them the most? If you say Beatles or Stones you'd be wrong. According to Vanda & Young they most wanted to be like The Pretty Things, who toured the area in 1964.

I know the Aussies love to shit on us "Yanks" because we don't get bands like Rose Tattoo, or other hard edged bands from Down Under, but what they don't understand is that we didn't grow up with that sound here. AC/DC is my favorite band in the world, and I love the Bon Scott era, Vanda and Young produced records, but sorry, Rose Tattoo doesn't do it for me. I like other bands like UFO and some of the harder NWOBHM stuff, but I grew up hearing that stuff since I was born in 1970. Vanda and Young were brilliant producers, and Harry seems like a great guy. "Let There Be Rock" and "Dirty Deeds" are fucking great records
Angus young cites Chuck Berry as a big influence on his playing, as well as a lot of the old Blues greats from the Mississippi Delta.
@@simonkormendy849 And I love AC/DC, like I said. I prefer the harder edged "Let There Be Rock" over the more polished "Highway to Hell" (which is still a great album).
