- Taking side by side screenshots from my own equipment and analyzing these two releases from Scream Factory and 101 Films to see what, if any differences in the 4k scans exists.
This is a full review of the film as well as the releases from both labels as we'll discuss the film, the packaging, the audio / video quality, as well as the special features for an overall judgement of the winning label.

Good stuff Ken. I haven’t watched my 101 4K yet. Scream Factory’s 4Ks are damn good. The only issue I have with most of them is that they don’t offer newly commissioned art. I’ve just ordered The Shining mini-series from them. It’s a guilty pleasure.

Dude I love Alligator! The Scream Factory 4K looks fantastic, and Robert Forster rules. Love that 101 chunky box set too, though it's probably not something I'd pick up unless maybe I felt the need to add Alligator 2 to my collection (which I've not decided if I want yet or not). Great stuff man!
It was better than I thought it would be. I haven’t watched Alligator 2 yet but I heard it’s nothing to ride home about. The better value is the 101 films set for the money but if you already have Alligator from Scream Factory- there if no reason to get the 101 Films set (unless you just love Big Chunky Box Sets like we do 😉)
Robert Forster was a badass in this one for sure. Learning more of him and his filmography too.

hey thanks sp much for an in-depth review. As a scream factory collector, I've wondered with the newer 101 films transfer what would be different. Really interesting to see. Can i ask, is the 101 alligator 2 a bluray or 4K?
I have the scream factory Alligator 2 bluray also, wondered if the 101 alligator 2 was a 4k transfer or better somehow?

You’re welcome! It’s why I love doing these types of vids. Really just recently started these but will continue making more like it.
The 101 film’s Alligator 2 is on a bluray and it’s not noted that it’s any type of a new scan (I.e. 4k scan on a Blu-ray Disc) So it’s likely the same Blu-ray scan as the scream factory version. It’s also “Region B” if that matters or makes a difference to you.
I don’t have the scream factory Alligator 2 release to compare the 101 films version to, but I would imagine it would look very much the same with probably only subtle differences (if any) as most labels these days are focused on their 4k scans or would likely only make changes if it was a new 4k scan placed onto a Blu-ray Disc.
Hope that helps - the 101 Films set is a nice set but you’d have to make the choice if it’s worth the double dip on your end.

Appreciate the comparisons between 4K discs. Even if they’re using the same transfer it gives us an idea of how each lane stacks up with with their encoding and if a film gets multiple releases it informs which label to go with based on how their encoding has stood up against others in the past. It’s not a huge difference that it makes but it can be hard to know which edition to go with sometimes and since a lot of the 4K market is overseas it’s nice to get as much info as possible before shelling out for overseas shipping
