Shop took the Jeep back and replaced the "new" fan with another new fan and all is well. We made the right call. Remember folks, "new" does not always mean "good." -Eric O. PS. I am feeling better now. Just had a few day bout with ol' rona
I was an ASE Master Technician until 1999 and I wasn't even close to Eric's electrical diagnostic skills as bad as I hate to admit it! Lol Eric is most definitely the best I've seen!!
HD 3speed transmissions just finally got their first silenoid 1 or two years before that. You quit before cars needed diagnosing. Since they were pretty much still good for 5 years back then Wouldnt you say? I know because about exactly the same year I got out of it professionally. But I got out because the already underrated and underpaid proffession of an auto mechanic about to start a x100 more decline down the worlds steepest railroad incline
I mean before that they were all stuck pvc valve cam sensor fuel pump or sparkplugs and all three of them took 10sec at idle and step on the gas ¼ inch to diagnose or faster if it just didnt start. Outside of the obvious waterpump electric fan oil seals
I lost a colleague & friend in 2015 who continued working despite having a fever (cardiac arrest). I still miss him these days. Look after yourself Eric, and make your health a priority over customers.
If you've got the regular flu and continue doing physical activities you run the risk of myocardial inflammation, aka you heart muscle can get infected. And if you do the same on covid you increase your long covid risk by a lot (recent studies found).
No amount of guilt from my boss can make me work when I have a fever. I'm 55 and weigh more than I should. My family needs me much more than a few days at work !
I went to work sick because if I stayed home I'd still feel bad but loose a days pay. Yes i know I might infect others but where do people go when they get sick? The store where I work and i catch whatever they have Oh boy
@@drippingwax She's making the soup! It's part of the joy(not) of self-employment. I'm digging the company thing these days with Paid Time Off: holidays, sick/personal, vacation, etc.
It would be interesting to know what that other shop told their customer. Did they quietly put in another fan and then told the customer "Yep, the new TIPM fixed the problem"? I know there are people in the world who would do such a thing, and I worry that the number of such people is higher than we think.
@@helgew9008 It was sent to Eric from another shop. More than likely the owner will know nothing about who fixed it and get charged for the fan and module.
Even on your worst day, you're still a better diagnostic mechanic than anyone I've ever seen. I've learned so much from your channel over the years. I'm only a part-timer who mostly works on older cars, but it's all still useful knowledge. Hope you feel better soon Eric, and Happy New Year to you, Mrs O and all the family!
Having to work while sick is the worst, and being self employed means no sick days. Shops love the TIPM swap with Chrysler products $$$$. Thanks for making a short vid while sick….much appreciated.👍
I remember the good old days when we had a coolant temperature sensor on the thermostat housing and when it got hot the fan came on low speed , it got hotter the fan got faster and finally... chocks away prepare for take off !!! ...and that was summer towing in the mountains, maybe slightly overloaded ;) It never overheated tho. . I'm old and i still hose the bugs out of the radiator , im told thats not necessary with modern radiators, just set in my ways I guess. Nice video 👍
At no time during the Coronavirus Pandemic was I sick. My employer mandated vaccinations so, I complied. This latest variant KICKED MY BUTT! I was sick for 1 1/2 days. You take care of yourself, Eric! GREAT VIDEO!
I guess if this weren't a free warranty fix, you could connect a 1k resistor from the red B+ wire over to the PWM control wire of the fan(basically emulating Eric's test light), to act as a pull up, and the system would work again as factory pretty much... seems like just one internal connection/solder trace/joint is broken for the PWM pullup part... pity the fan will go to landfill over 1mm of copper connection...
I tell ya when you’re sick and you have to work it’s like trying to walk across a riverbed in waist high water. Glad you’re feeling better and thanks for the post
In the future when you start feeling crappy, try a teaspoon full of organic/cooking baking soda in water. Works for a lot of things! Good hangin' in there!
Hey Eric! It sounds like you have a bad case of the GREEN CRUSTIES! Take care and get well soon. Your country needs you. The world needs you. Keep on doin' what you're doin. It keeps us goin'
Friend of ours here in Midwest is a Mechanic at his Shop and has told us to Never even Think about Owning a Jeep. Fiat or Stellantis were Horrible for Brand.
No kidding. Sick and my water heater sprung a leak when gone for Christmas. Day of last replacement 24 Nov 2016. Two days before thanksgiving. Perfect.
The Great Erie O saying - NEW - Never Ever Worked . Hope you recover completely. You are correct, working when you are sick is not fun. Take care of your health. It should be first over other concerns.
I know it may not be today as you film, edit then post but been where you are today working on cars when ya ill awful!! Quick and easy diagnosis like you say 😅 well done great as always Eric

Im sorry your not well. When you say if i can do it , you can do it, is not true when it comes down to chasing electronic problems. You are the best. Thats why shops send stuff to you.
My sincerest sympathies…..I have the flu, as well, but at least can watch your video from the warmth and comfort of my bedroom. I can’t imagine feeling like this, but still having to get up to go do work. Hope you feel better really soon.
I know exactly how your feeling Eric, had it over Christmas 3 days, I drank water with lemon nonstop and it moved through. The key is to flush really heavy!
You mechanics out there really need to learn that stuff , work on it, go to classes or find sombody like Eric o to teach you how to diagnose that electrical stuff. Cheers from northern indiana usa
I just did a 5 hour job yesterday in 15mph winds (EGR valve, Crank position sensor and HVAC actuators), and I also am recovering from rona or the flu. I feel ya man. I am feeling much better today. Glad you are feeling better
