T'was a fine thing that the tech assistant or continuity person would fade the Ceefax tape being played and bang in a link track cartridge to give a clean musical finish to a Ceefax broadcast. (blimey! they seemed to care about what they were doing). I remember this happening a lot in 1986 - by '88 Candle In The Wind was a regular link to finish these broadcasts, amongst a few others in the continuity cupboard... Classic Ceefax pages too - ahhh!
WOW! 20 years on, and it is hard to believe that this really ever happened :( How did things go from this golden era of daytime Ceefax broadcasting to the current status of 24-hour bilge and television at 120mph???
The Elton John classic "Candle In The Wind" being played over pages from the BBC's teletext information service Ceefax in the summer of 1988 prior to the start of lunchtime programmes for young children. This was Ceefax in-vision at its very best.
Candle in the Wind... The Dianistas would be on to the BBC if they played that now! Hope there were no news items about the (then)Princess of Wales being shown while that was playing!
Ceefax can still be seen now, but you have to be watching around 3am on a Saturday or Sunday! BBC2 still instead of the BBC News Channel which is normally on BBC1 at weekends!
i remember watching the mr. bean episode (Mind the baby mr bean) for many years and never knew what that song was when he puts the baby in that kiddie ride....until now.
@happyin2008 Royal Mail had not given permission for their logo to be used at this time, the makers did get permission for later series. Nowadays (in the more recent TV series) apparently Royal Mail don't want to be associated with Postman Pat, so he now works for the "Special Delivery Service".
Having watched Postman Pat recently with my son, i have to say at least it is still mostly stop motion and it's the same guy voicing him . It's probably one of the best kids shows on TV. I can't be bothered with SDS though, Pat's got a younger voice in that one plus he screws up a lot and always has the cheek to say "mission accomplished" at the end. SDS is just an excuse to sell toys, IMHO.

Thanks so much for uploading this video to UA-cam I love Postman Pat.
It's very strange finding tv footage from the day you're born! Who would have thought it possible!?

"Suitably equipped". I used to fixate on that phrase, when I was four.
This must be Tuesday 28th June 1988, if I read the Ceefax correctly.

BBC Two is apparently following this practice atm! Postman Pat straight after Ceefax! Unfortunately it's not the old Pat we all love. :(

Are you the first comment on this video?

Whenever I hear this I always think of Blanche on Corrie.
I thought Candle in the Wind was cheesy and mawkish enough! I love proper Postman Pat! Takes me back to when I used to read Puddle Lane!
that is from Tuesday 29th June 1988.

Or Teletext designers were rip-off artists
Ah... proper Postman Pat... not the diversified politically-correct version shown on CBeeBies these days!!
