Great farm. I did waterlogged stairs in front of the pistons instead of glass like another comment suggested and it fixed my problem with kelp not floating.
You should try it again without the stairs. I thought I was going to have to do the same thing you did. I seat there and watched they will float to the top. It took about 2mins or so.
I'm not sure if things have been changed in the most recent updates, but I've used a version of this farm for a long time now. The problem is when the piston activates into the water source block, it's no longer a water source block causing problems with kelp floating up. To fix this, uses water logged stairs instead of glass across from the pistons. They will ensure it's always water source blocks.
Thank you for this! Just built my kelp farm on Bedrock and it works perfectly to this day! For the ones saying kelp won't float, you just need to wait until one of the plants grows back to 2nd stage and then you have your water source block again, therefore making all the remaining kelp to float.

found 1 mistake I made, put the blocks with the redstone below the back of the piston, fixed and tested, so far working ok, no issues with the piston's destroying the water block when it cycles, and it takes a min or 2, but the broken (grown) kelp, does eventually float up and then goes water flow to hopper minecart and into chest.. so far love the build... thanks

As far as I'm aware, zero tick kelp farms still work so I would opt for one of them as you could get well over a full chest easily within like 20 minutes. That's already more than you'd ever likely need. Still, love a lot of your other farms tho!

hey JC, love your videos! is there anyway that you could give us an updated 1.19 bone and fish farm? it seems as if fish no longer spawn as frequently as what they used to in all of the farms
Mine still works super good but I had to build my afk platform about 40 blocks up from where JC builds his until I found a sweet spot and the fish start spawning more. The original afk spot in the video doesn’t seem to work for some reason…
Can anyone explain me, why this "hopper in minecart" stuff is required? AFAIK you should just be able to use a normal hopper, the items will land on them and the will be moved into the chest. Hoppers in Minecarts I only know from farms where between an item and the minecart is one block.
Hopper minecarts pull items faster than hoppers. They're more helpful when there are a lot of items flowing into a collection system. It helps with entity lag by getting them into storage faster.
I mean this is cool but like you can build a zero tick kelp farm, just needs 8 more sticky pistons and some red stone stuff and more hoppers but if you make it 8 wide then it will create like 6 stacks of bone blocks per hour or a double chest of bonemeal/hr and you can also hook it up to smokers to make kelp instead.
why are you adding water in front of the observers twice?, I see the first placement, then the slabs, and then the water to flow to minecart hopper, (and you should be specific, the flow water should be placed not on the slab but on the block to the left of the slab, up against the side of the block, so, if placed on the slab directly, the water just sits on the slab), but you add water to the observers ( a 2nd time), just after breaking the slabs, I do not understand why, if there is a reason, please explain, if this is a mistake, please clarify and update video or notes in comments) .. thanks, love the build btw, just finished, now testing to see if it works.
@@sambenao7 I gotta say though about 2-3 years ago JC was killing it and basically ran my server with his farms and super easy to follow videos. My friends don't understand redstone in the slightest but I could still send a video to them and have the work done. Maybe I'm nostalgic
frog light farms are pretty easy honestly. you just need a bastion with a magma cube spawner. creat a room around the spawner, clear out any lava and stuff so it's a nice plain room. put your frogs on the floor of this room and just let them roam around freely. then, have floating powdered snow blocks 1 block over the floor, in a checkboard pattern (like, snow - no snow - snow - no snow) the magma cubes spawn and drop down to the floor. as they are bouncing around, the powdered snow will kill them, and they drop magma cream which the frogs will eat and spit out the frog lights. from there, you just need a hopper minecart going all underneath the entire floor to harvest the lights. you can find tutorials but they are honestly pretty simple, just add snow and frogs to a room with a magma cube spawner. the hardest part is just finding a bastian with a spawner in it and clearing everything out to make it.
Does anyone know how much one of these produces in an hour? Edit: I made 64, it makes 57 stacks an hour give or take. So just 1 will produce 57 kelp an hour give or take. Hopefully this helps someone
So the big under water ones with the honey block flying machines don't work anymore? I really wanted one like that. Nothing better than a large surface area farm that gets auto cleared by flying machines
When I'm using this I have a problem with the flowing water becoming source blocks and causing the kelp to not flow anywhere - I assume the kelp is growing too tall, somehow. Any fixes for that?
Attempting this on ps5(if that matters...) using wood planks as solid pieces of choice... i move mine cart over hopper then cant place next plank...dunno what im doing wrong.
I'm curious, what is the height limit you can make for such a device as well as extending the redstone to power the pistons? For example I've dug down to bed rock and built two of these contraptions but i find them misfiring or not activating.
Kelp grows to 25 height so I'd say that high but you could maybe stack them and have a waterfall or something for the kelp to wall into I just made a 140 tall one
