    Can we all just take a moment and admire the total number of times the word “erection” was used in such a short period of time without a chuckle 😂😂. Such control! Great channel!

    When the shipping containers for Thriller (Texas Tornado / Zonga) started arriving at AstroWorld from Europe, they got sent the whole darn thing including all the marque lighting and signage. I wish I knew what happened to all those lights they didn't use because some were really cool looking. The lead paint part was odd, but I realized they didn't paint it when it was at AstroWorld. They just poured a slab, put it together, and opened for business. Easiest "new" ride ever. I loved that coaster even if it was rough and broke down all the time. Somebody needs to make a modern version of it.

      That would be a cool idea. When I saw it the first time I was like “sweet” then I heard it was a traveling ride and it blew my mind for something that big.

    I'm curious about how Six Flags worked out their "Ride Rotation" program they had in the 90s. They also seemed to have "dumping ground" parks that usually only received older rides (e.g. Astroworld and later Six Flags America)

    Ride described at 44:36 as being "too rough": no wonder! One look at the loops explains why! They are circular or nearly so. That means 6G more at the bottom than at the top!
    Are you aware that Knoebels Resorts moved a WOODEN coaster from Texas to Pennsylvania (Phoenix)? They did it economically, unlike all the other attempts to move a wooden coaster. It helped that they has a sister lumber company to replace the bad wood.

    • @ryantheridemechanic
      @ryantheridemechanic  2 місяці тому

      The ride was more rough from banking and turn transitions. It would go side to side too hard. On Malory of those rides it wasn’t a problem but then the owners decided to retrofit the train with over the shoulder restraints and now all those transitions, you hit your head on the restraint. The loops did have some high G but nothing like general transitions. Modern heart line building would solve all that.
      It’s amazing they moved a wooden coaster. That doesn’t make sense to me, I would just build it over again at the next place and tweak the prints where needed. But that’s just me.

    That particular traveling coaster, zonga/texas tornado/thriller..... I remember it's reliability issues in texas at astroworld. They say it had issues with the tire drives, combined with the heat and humidity. I know it was eventually sold to a park in Mexico where it seems all Schwarzkopf coasters go to die. But during its time there it didn't seem to have those issues. You have first hand knowledge, is there something they possibly modified to remedy that issue once it left for Mexico? And what was the true issue and if a design modification could have remedied the issue.

    • @ryantheridemechanic
      @ryantheridemechanic  3 місяці тому

      The tire drives were horrible but it’s mainly due to pneumatic tires pushing a flat drive sword around an uphill curve. Not great at all. On top of that they had tubes inside that means if the bead slipped at all, blown tire. Blow tire = 2-3 more in the same spot and stalled train on the lift. To fix the lift I don’t know of anything that was done to it honestly. Knee jerk reaction would be to shorten the train length to remove weight strain. Or only load 1/2 of the train ever. It was interesting to work on but that’s about it. Lots of bad thing and controls never got the bugs out.

    Excellent, hilarious video! I have a question about anti rollbacks on a coaster. So obviously there are anti rollbacks as the train is going up the lift hill, but I saw someone mention anti rollbacks not on a lift hill. They would be to prevent the train from rolling back into the course if it valleyed apparently. The example given was Prowler at WoF on the s turn before the break run. I'm curious if you've ever seen this on a coaster and what the actual benefits would be. The anti rollbacks on Prowler would be right at the end of a block zone, so it's not like they are there to prevent the trains from crashing because the train on the lift hill couldn't go over if a train got caught by the anti rollbacks. Would keeping the train a couple feet up a relatively small hill change the rescue procedures and make it easier? If so, why aren't there more anti rollbacks in places that aren't lift hills on coasters? And maybe there are and I've just never heard them discussed. Thank you!

    Gene Staples been stocking up on used rides for his parks lately, I'm curious if the shuttle loop will actually get built at Niagara Amusement Park (NAP for short), plus he just bought 2 rides from SFGAd (I believe?) a Huss Frisbee and another ride that were removed and stored at NAP.

    So when a coaster gets relocated, eg: Batman Knight Flight (Dominator) from Geauga Lake to Kings Dominion, do they typically alter the support columns or alter the terrain to fit? Or both?

    • @ryantheridemechanic
      @ryantheridemechanic  3 місяці тому +1

      Usually the rides not altered at all. Sometimes they might have to make special supports under the ride supports to make up the difference for terrain. But usually flat ground rides are transfers not terrain type.

    In your experience did you ever notice particular rows of a rollercoaster train experience more wear than other rows? And is there anything other than being out of the norm that that would prevent mixing parts between trains or changing the order of the coaches during reassembly after offseason overhaul?

    • @ryantheridemechanic
      @ryantheridemechanic  3 місяці тому

      Wheels in front and back wear more. Hitches and pivots wear in like bearings so you can mix them up but should replace all the bushings if you do. Other than those minor things. Not really an issue.
