I was lucky enough to visit the JiTong several times during and towards the end of the QJ reign. I did my best to tell every enthusiast I knew to get there while he could ... but of course most did not.
The original recordings are a little better than is reproduced here, although at this time we didn't yet have HD recording.

Those few QJ years on the JiTong really were like going back to the 1940s or 50s on a difficult US Rockies pass.

On a steep grade with a heavy train, placing the third locomotive at the front would likely break a coupler knuckle. I've seen it happen, even with a mid-train helper. In the steam days, in addition to whistle signals, the mid-train engineer would watch the exhaust plume of the lead engines. Even with radios, these guys are GOOD!
    Beautiful videos!

Thank you very much for your kind comment. Of course, it's the subject that's beautiful ... I just point the camera!

Absolutely magnificent sights and wonderfully recorded! :-) Do you know what they grow on the hills? Gooseberries? Grapes (surely not!).

My wife, who comes from that area, says it's sweetcorn or buckwheat. I cannot comment at all !! .... Andy

Low temperatures, good light and hard working steam, the perfect combination.

The mid train helper was very unusual.

Andy and Dandan Fisher - Steam Around the World The middle locomotive is a newly overhauled QJ (maybe Changchun or Sujiatun) and has no fire ,and it’s main rod was removed for the convenience of transportation.

Glad that I still have my CRT tv which I can hook up to my PS3 to watch this. It looks so much better on a CRT screen.

Impressive and beautiful. But what is the rail gauge?

    • @AndyDandanFisherSteam
      @AndyDandanFisherSteam  5 років тому

It's standard gauge. The first railways in China were built by the British so the running standards were established then. Trains normally run on the left (as the UK) and semaphore signals have always been British style.

All the Videos about the JingPeng Pass are awesome!
Is this Picture Quality equal to the original recordings?

China has got dramatically more expensive in the last 10 years. In 2004/5/6 I was taking small groups there for 1500GBP for 2 weeks ... including everything ... airfares, hotels, transport, meals, guides. It's twice as much these days.

This was a small deception in my title ! I assume the third QJ was being delivered to depot.

@@funnyshoresgamer983 The life of the steam at Sandaoling keeps being extended. The latest news that I have is that the steam will continue to operate until September 2021. Apart from tourist work, Sandaoling is the very last operating steam in China and the world ...... Andy

´but of course most did not´.
You´re right, I think it´s caused by the excessive price people has to pay.....
It´s a really pity that there was not HD recording facility for consumers at that time...

The steam days on the JiTong Railway were a wonderful time for enthusiasts of the steam locomotive. I visited the line in November and it's all diesel now. I have a video in editing - out soon!. Andy
