What memories are stirred. My coldest day, there, was only -28C! Thanks for all these Trevor. I hope you've seen my Cold Steam DVD, a record of my 10 days there in 1998. Cheers. BW.
Unfortunately, people and their well being mean nothing in China. More people die every YEAR in Chinese coal mines than have died here since coal was discovered in the US. A fireman works so cheap it's easier to use a man than to install and use a mechanical stoker.
Yeah give her a Frisco 3-chime.......if the 1522 won't be returned to service the least anyone can do is let a replica of the 1522's whistle be mounted to the 7081.
I actually want to have a replica of the 1522's whistle made someday. I don't think there's a better sounding whistle ever made, though I admit to a few favorites.
+Acrobatic Cripple yes, but only just! I rode up the pass in the second QJ the following day, and the tunnels were certainly an interesting experience!

Those QJs were absolutely maginificent. What amazing engines and they sound in top condition. :-)
They were truly incredible!

Thanks Bruce. I'll have to have a look for it as I haven't seen it.
@@steamfreak Give Steam Media a call. He may still have some. Good luck.
Super Trevor....I was with you ...incredible experience.Grazie to remind me that trip.
Hi Giovanni! Great to hear from you. Yes, a fantastic trip indeed!
Unbelievable - almost brings tears to my eyes...
It was amazing. The cold certainly brought tears to my eyes! 😳
Nice footage. Having been there in winter I appreciate all you went through in terms of braving the cold and wind to get these clips. Thanks.
Cheers. Yes it was a bit harsh at times but so worth it!
Brilliant filming. My,that must have been cold. Well done under trying conditions. You are soo keen, and it was worth your time, and effort.
Thanks! Yes it was very cold, -40C some mornings. But incredible!
This is so fabulous -great video.
Thank you!
and it is an excellent Video! snow and steam, that goes together very well!
It was amazing! And cold! 😂
The best Ji Tong footage ever. Thanks for the memories.
Thanks mate.
Happy days on the ji tong , never to be forgotten, thought i was going to die with the cold, TWICE. Great vid.
It was certainly freezing cold there! -40 degrees Celsius was the coldest we had, and it was bitter! But worth it for the steam!
Great video they have some very rugged terrain there.
Yes it was interesting hiking around those hills all day!
Engine crew, nice warm job for that kind of cold.
Yes, it was - 40C in the mornings. Brrrr...
super video
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. Great historic record
Thanks. It was steam's last great show...
Minus 31C .... Cold. !!! ........ very keen photographer
+Peter G it was pretty bitter cold, but well worth it for the spectacle of big steam!
it was so great!
Thank you!
Top - Video !!!
Thanks!
Impressive and beautiful. But what is the rail gauge?
Standard gauge 1435mm
QJ #7040 now serves RJ Corman as their #2008 which has been given the nickname "Old Smokey."
Is it still running?
2 locos 4-8-2! Nice locos! But i can't know what locos are? Who's know?
+Pedro Scotta They are 2-10-2 QJ locos. All loco numbers are shown in the video titles.
Oh hey the RJ Corman QJ's in this.
Ah cool! Didn't realise that!
-31? Why aren't the engineers pre heating the cylinders?
+sabeth17 Not sure. Some of the procedures seemed strange me. Like having mechanical stokers but having two firemen hand fitting the loco...

DAM I thought the 4-8-4 Northern was scary
These beasts were incredible!
yes, that looks like a cold & desolate place, but if have trains that need work?
+Federico Peña it certainly was cold and desolate! All diesels now though.

Think of the coal mines in China- the gulags, the sweat and toil required to supply coal for one journey.
+Martin J it would have been hard, brutal and dangerous work in those mines worth poor safety precautions.
6:10 is so beautiful
Thank you!
Great video! However they need to stop using that abomination of an airhorn....I'd rather hear the QJ's whistle any day!
I hear ya, man! As if Iowa Interstate didn't use 7081's airhorn enough over here in the States.
Yeah give her a Frisco 3-chime.......if the 1522 won't be returned to service the least anyone can do is let a replica of the 1522's whistle be mounted to the 7081.
I couldn't agree more.

Yeah that steam whistle is sooo much better!
Fantastic. Shame they didn’t last
Yep. At least they made it into this century! What a show!
Spektakulär!
Thank you!
Did they really come out of that tunnel alive?
+Acrobatic Cripple yes, but only just! I rode up the pass in the second QJ the following day, and the tunnels were certainly an interesting experience!
Thank you. Thanks also for sharing your experiences for the likes of us to be able to enjoy.
Parabéns pela coragem de enfrentar este frio.
Thanks
