With the program barracuda ! 6 of them are on program ! The strategic submarine will be changed 4 of them ! All class of ship are on programmation ! France is not u.s ! we don’t have the same capacity ! But for us this the best we can do in this time
after Trafalgar britain took command of the seas....At Trafalgar the french were poorly trained ...the spanish were worse...the french navy had poor crew morale and their diet was poor too... napoleon couldn't rely on them and had no real appreciation of how they operated...he was too busy trying to find a way to cross the channel to beat up the english.....he gave up and focused on russia...and we all know how that ended...french army today have had to improve on so many losses...dien bien phu they underestimated the terrain and their opposition

You see the French navy is very small in size compared to England's navy or America. So why is that? I mean back in the 1600 to 1700's, France had one of the biggest navy's in the world. Was WWII to blame for the downfall in numbers?
Italy, Japan, Germany, UK, Spain, France and Japan all had the largest navy (or close to the largest) at some point in history. but as ships became more expensive and WW1 and WW2 crippled the European powers and Japan, only the US remains in the condition and has the willpower (Europe isn't really threatened by anyone except Russia and has no wants or need to control the world/be the world's police again, like the US currently is/does) to keep building a huge navy.
Back in the old day when china still using bow and arrow, western european like to pick on china... Try to pick on china now and see how gaul navy will perform. Remember china recently landed a rover on mars. China made it to mars using only bow and arrow.

@@baptbert043 Are you joking? We have buy more Fremms, and in the next years we will build two 10000 and more tons “destroyers” (they will be practically cruisers). We are building 7 OPV but they are better frigates than the Bellarrhas (sorry the name is probably wrong). The Italian navy is terribly underestimated only because we don’t have big capital ship. But we are the only country in Europe that can deploy 5th gen fighter from a CV, for this the little cavour is better than the CDG, a ship full of problems and almost permanently in port for reparations.

France prefers to build several types of frigates such as the Fremm or the FDI to meet its needs and in particular to secure the second largest maritime zone in the world! And we can very well use 5th generation planes on the CDG except that we do not need them and that your F-35s are vertical takeoff and therefore have reduced capacities and in particular the range of action! We are also in the process of commissioning the new suffren-class submarines. In the end, almost the entire French frigate fleet will be replaced or renovated.

The french navy doesn't have "destroyer" they have different kind of frigates.
Because it's called "1st class frigate" for destroyer and "2nd class frigate" for frigate in France
