For thousands of years, strength at sea has been one of the defining military factors of any world power. Naval strength is used to respond to territorial disputes as well as enforce maritime borders and protect national interests.
On this series of videos will include battleforce ships made up of aircraft carriers, frigates, destroyers, corvettes, Submarines,opv’s, missile boats (regardless of onboard technology employed, crew training, fleet quality, etc...). ,Torpedo boats, small patrol boats, Auxiliary vessels are not included. Landlocked nations are not NOT penalized for the lack of a standing naval force and are, thus, excluded from this video.

Japan was on track to be the dominant power in the east but stupid leaders in the 30’s/40’s prevented that. Nonetheless, they are now the real guardian of the east. The U.S is mainly their for naval and air support (with some ground forces yes). But Japan will be the main ground force when this war with China goes hot and gets out of its cold phase
Not sure we have leadership that is strong enough to stand up to Chinese aggression right now. Likely Japan and Taiwan are on their own. The U.S is struggling to hold itself together currently.

There’s something very cool about seeing this return of Japan’s built up navy. With many of the ships having personal names or class names that were made famous from WW2 while flying the flag of the IJN. In a way the Kaga for just one example, it almost feels like a second chance to sail again.

@kaisin taika As one of the few countries to threaten to direct war with China in the event they attack Taiwan. I doubt a good bit of what you’re saying. The Japanese Navy and defenses on the mainland would likely make any attack on the mainland by China a catastrophic loss of resources. Plenty of time for the US to arrive and the Japanese might not even need them if India and Australia join in. And if China threatens nuclear war, them using the arsenal in Japan will just result in retaliation by the US especially. China can flex its nukes, but if they use it on Japan to get around direct combat with them, they and maybe the world will see obliteration.

That number of frigates(“もがみ” Mogami class, which is the only frigate class ships of JMSDF fleet now) is going to increase to 22 in the future to reinforce the fleet & replace some of the older cold war/post cold war era destroyers and destroyer escorts.
And of course those destroyers includes the carriers. JMSDF classifies their light aircraft carriers & helicopter carriers as DDH which means “helicopter destroyers”.

Yes he would be quite happy. Japan alllied with the west to hopefully destroy and conquer china for good this time. In ww2 they did go deep into china, and china lost many many people because of it. Being an island nation and in a rough neighbourhood makes Japan focus primarily on sea power along with air power. JMSDF have more ships than Royal Navy and more is being built.

Japan has been a nation that optimizes it's Navy due to it's location, they deserve a Naval force to be reckon with against ever growing threat with the CCP next door. It sends me chills that their new ships carry the same names of their WW2 predecessors.
Not just navy but air power too. That's why Japan operating top of the line fighters to secure the air.
The Japanese and the British are a lot alike. Their geography hs made them great warriors and sailors. We Americans certainly respect their fighting ability . Their technical capabilities are legendary. Their food is great! And their Navy is first class.

Someone should make up their mind. The Izumo and Hyuga classes are called "helicopter destroyers" by the JMSDF, because by law they are not allowed to have aircraft carriers. Carrying a handful of F-35s (which is a lot more complicated than just landing them on the ship) doesn't really make those carriers.

Legit curious if anyone knows: why does Japan have so many different destroyer classes? Like compared to the US and major European navies, they have an insane number of unique classes. This would seem to be counterproductive because it would reduce the number of swappable, common parts, reducing economies of scale and complicating logistics. Are the destroyer classes all basically the same except for marginal tweaks (like different flights of the Burkes), or are they significantly different? The hull form and superstructures look nearly identical for many of the classes, so I'm guessing it's just a difference in naming conventions between the USN and JMSDF, but would love to know if anyone has more information!

なので、4〜8隻ずつ建造します。
また、アメリカ海軍と違い、イージスシステム搭載艦を大量導入するお金が足りない為、クラスごとの特色を重視します。
例えば、ASAHI型は対潜水艦、AKIDUKI型は対空。
MOGAMI型は、乗組員を少なくする事で人員不足を解消しています。
イージスシステム搭載艦は、値段が高い為2隻ずつ建造します。
その実態は、バージョンアップであって、全く違う船ではありません。

A Japanese submarine that even the US Navy cannot match.
The reason is the dive depth and the only torpedo that can be launched from that depth.
Ability that even Japanese do not know.
Furthermore, quietness and crew skill
nothing special though about the diving depth yes 600 metres is a lot and its the same depth as a nuke sub but do you really think nuke subs cant be sunk with torpedoes? they give up many things to make it get there, its slow, cramped , terrible range, not the most silent in the world but still good, and it doesnt carry that many weapons. i never liked duel hulls on subs, a torpedo will still sink it, it makes more sence on nuke subs where they can go max speed of 50km or so rather than 5km on electric.
You're obviously not aware of the technology of American subs which are all nuclear. But, congratulations to Japan for a very well advanced Navy.

The United States should allow Japan to go full speed ahead in it own defense to defend her own country. At least 20 full scalp aircraft carrier and 1,500 other ships.

I'm surprised that they don't have off shore patrol ships 500 TON or MIne sweepers, replenishment ships or frigets. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong as I don't know much about Asian navies
This video mainly shows only combatant ships. JMSDF have large auxiliary fleet including mine sweepers, replenishment, training and ocean surveillance ships.
However, they have few small ships to patrol the territorial waters. Japanese MOD is designing these ships now.
