Another great walking tour! Did you happen to see the video about Lin? There’s an archaeological site in lake Ohrid. They are saying it’s the oldest human settlement in Europe so far, dating back 8500 years! Being under 3 meters of water has preserved it.
Thanks for sharing what you do of Albania. Just to point out what folks who don't need to use wheelchairs tend not to notice - there's inaccessibility well before you get inside the store and see narrow aisles. All of those retail and hotel places had steep stairs to the front. The "ground" floor was all built about a meter up for some reason. And as you passed the Pogradeci, you could see that giant wooden deck someone built extending all the way out to the curb with no ramp to surmount it. That would force a wheelchair user back and out into the street. However, despite US law, plenty of things in the US are not accessible to folks would probably have to do the same things they do here to cope with the inaccessibility. Thanks for all your videos. It's really beautiful there.
Hi! I stayed 3 days at that hotel in September. Beautiful view. But the weather was cool and rainy so didn't swim in the lake. About 15° degrees in the air. Had some sun too. Pogradec was peaceful, the most "Albanian feel" town I've visited so far. Gonna return in June.
Yes i couldnt agree more. Ive nicked named it Mayberry from the old t.v. show. If its ok to suggest Besides here the wife and i also fell in love with Shkoder dont know if you been there yet. Were very happy here in Mayberry !!
I won't be going in a "grocery store", save for soap and sundries... I prefer the farmers' markets, butcher and bakery... but it's good to know that they have them. The city looks so clean as compared to videos I have seen of Durres... a bit too cold for my taste...but beautiful for a summertime visit.
Stop by them they won’t mind. They will teach you the domino. Favorite pass-time of retired people in Albania. Also, GREAT Albanian at the Exchange. Keep up the good work with the language. Have a Blessed Friday and weekend!
I would imagine if you moved to Albania and were disabled you would want to hire a shopper and helper for you to do a lot of errands. Disabled people in Albania probably have an extensive family network to help them. Lovely view. Beach, mountains and small city. Perfecto! Nice grocery store. Fruit and veggies people buy at the stands. How about meat and fish? Separate stores?
The layout of that grocery store looks exactly like our dollar stores in the united states. However, appears to be far cheaper. Your videos have been very informative, still trying to glean as much information as possible before I land over there next month. Make the transition slightly easier.
Thanks for another great video Patrick. Question for you: When you went into the money exchange business, is there a charge for that service and if so how much? Thank you so much. Judy & Jim
Not a charge. But they list on the wall what exchange price is. As far as me asking for smaller bills there is no charge. So at atm i just get lek...then get smaller bills. Never let atm choose exchange rate..it will ask you if it can. Say no...you will get better rate.
Always enjoy your walks. i f you get to Vlorë someday, give me a heads up and we'll grab a coffee and talk trash about the Metroplex. Have a good weekend.
I've seen videos on Vlore and it looks great. What town/city would you recommend for being at the coast of Albania if one wants to live at the beach? Seems there is quite a few to choose from and just wondering your thoughts on some of them.
Does the Western Union exchange USD? The exchanges here don't exchange USD, but I never tried Western Union. It's not a huge need since the ATMs do the conversion. But just wondering..
I told yes. Western union will. I personally never have...I will try. Just for I know for sure. I've seen dollars stacked there behind the glass. As well as exchange rate posted on the board..I will try and get back
If i remember i will pop in and ask. Depends alot on what time of year. Summer will be higher. Last summer costed me $35 if i remember right. That included breakfast

You hit the nail on the head Jan . Family, or they hire someone cheap to shop for them. Some meat in store. But a lot of butcher shops around.
Love these shopping videos! ( of course me being a typical woman! LOL! )
Glad ! i will bring you more. Next video is on going to pharmacy.
