Brian Johnson of AC/DC recently said in an interview that he had to go watch these guys from the side stage to see what the world was on to. Metallic had the #1 album in the U.S. at the time and he just had to see what it was all about. He was blown away....by the crowd and the performance.

Metallica is my favourite band, but they aren’t a career thrash band.
They released one thrash album and then peppered their following albums with a few thrash songs here and there - which resulted in a more diverse catalogue of work, and more balance on their albums imo.
people were so far back, that by the time they started to hear the song, it was already over.

Drew, I'd have to say my favorite Metallica live performance is Seattle of 89'. If I were you go check out some of the content from that show. You'll be simply impressed. Not nearly as many people in the crowd but you can feel the atmosphere is just as great!

If you watch Enter Sandman live Moscow 1991, the military guys were headbanging and enjoying themselves, this is the first part of the gig, that's why they're tense, they're not used to heavy metal, western acts had just been permitted in USSR, actually one of the first metal bands to tour Russia 1989 was Black Sabbath.

At 8:06 when Lars stood up in the break , when he sat back down again to start playing he slammed his finger on the snare rim & it started bleeding bad. … He told about it why it was all bandaged up after the gig, he said he was bleeding all over the snare & cymbols the rest of the song, …. you see one clip at the end when he jumps up heading off to get it bandaged up.

Awesome reaction! And yeah, after playing in front of a huge crowd you're very wired for a while (largest I've done was around 9,000 at a couple of fests in Europe) but nothing that a few beers and a nice fling with a hot babe can't take care of :)

This is from a home video -"A year and a half in the life of Metallica part 2". Its a two hour documentary about Metallica's massive 2 year world tour of the gigantic world dominating "Black" album. Featuring some live stuff like this, and brilliant, fascinating, and hilarious at times footage of the band on the road and everyone and everything thats along their way. I had a passing interest in the band at the time, but when a friend lent me said video, I watched it all after school one day and including this insane performance, everything in the video made me a Metallica fan for life. Ill never forget it. It was right before the mock Junior Cert. I was 15,and everytime I see this performance,it reminds me of seeing it for the first time,and being blown away. The mania within the crowd. The choppers circling the place from above,the soldiers batein' into the people cos they dont understand what the fuck is going on. Its like an action scene from a war movie,and its incredible!
If you liked this one, listen to Welcome Home, it's actually one of my favorites of theirs and incredibly underrated.
Tallica boys from 85 to 93 before james went nuts with the booze were the COOLEST BAND ON EARTH. Ferocious, loud, untouchable.
Would you ever react to an entire live concert? If so, please react to Metallica's entire Seattle '89 show. It is very hard to request a song or two from that concert since the entire concert is killer, so just react to the whole damn thing, lol. And I'm not just saying that since I'm from Seattle. ;)
