    I’ve bought one of these. Great car. I like the centre console arrangement (phone stays in my pocket) I’m 6ft5 and it has heaps of leg room front and rear. The only thing I didn't like was the slow charging speed. If it charged as fast as the Kia EV6, the Niro would be my go to EV. My next EV will probably be the EV6. I currently drive the Mach-E.

    At the GT Line level, it is expensive for the size car it is and what you do and don’t get. I test drove an Air. Hated the stupid passenger seat design, no storage, phone on display in the heat, no wireless charging except on GT line, you can’t see the climate screen behind the steering wheel, the stupid touch shortcut buttons on top of the dash that you bump when using the infotainment touch screen. I don’t believe you can’t opt to leave the heated/cooled drawer turned on in the GT line so what’s the point of it? I like the look of it and it felt good to drive.

    I believe Tesla doesn't report AC/accessories in their kWh/100km figure. That can easily add up to 2-3kW which makes the figures more on par. Tesla is undoubtedly very efficient, but not as much as the initial numbers might suggest.

    • @GDM22
      @GDM22 Місяць тому

      It will report those things when driving which is what matters, you would typically only use sentry mode or automatic cabin cooling in day to day use, not on a road trip. The use of these is also optional and aside from them there will be minmal battery use when parked.

    • @hargeaux
      @hargeaux Місяць тому

    With all these EVs really hitting the market, my most curious question is "Do they call home for updates?". Do we, as consumers, have control over software updates and changes made to these vehicles or is it done without consent. It's a major shift that not many people talk about and is somewhat scary hearing Tesla stories of people not able to access their cars due to a bugged remote software update they didnt ask for. Not sure how often that has happened, the fact it's able to happen at all is a bit crazy imho.

    Problem I have is the price. You can currently lease a Tesla here for £350 a month for their LR or AWD models and about £4500 down. I can't see Kia matching that and since most people dont want to buy the EVs due to the insane depreciation, I don't think that the EV5 will be much competition vs the Model Y, especially if the Juniper gives the same quality of improvements that the Model 3 Highland did over the OG Model 3.

    •  Місяць тому +1

      Ehh, this is getting tiring. "Should not get past 80%" is just not true, and both types will age prematurely from sitting at high SOC for extended periods.
      LFP will _calibrate_ the BMS when charging to 100%. You do not NEED to do it, it is not "GOOD" for the battery health keeping it at 100%.

    • @camsmith4047
      @camsmith4047 Місяць тому

      True but the emphasis is on whether you are charging to 100% or leaving the SOC at 100% for some time. The higher the SOC the higher the voltage and the more damage to the battery cells. NMC & NMA have higher voltage than LFP.
      Charging to 100% all the time with LFP is not wise

    It would be good if you could comment on the drivers ergonomics a bit more. I find this a real issue. Many cars have a wide centre console with a wide drive tunnel. Often my left knee presses against the edge of the centre console and the left leg position is uncomfortable. Land Rover discovery is particularly bad in this way and also has a wide drive tunnel that means the floor is not flat and slopes down from the centre of the car to the right and the left foot has no room to rest. The right leg has plenty of room and sits in a natural position. This car from what I see looks like there is plenty of room for the driver and your left knee is clear of the centre console.

    One of the buyers remorse issues with the EV6 was no Kia connect. Does this have Kia connect? Shouldnt that be mentioned in a detailed review like this? For EVs its iften very handy to manage max charge and see charge rate remotely from your phone without going to the car. Something tesla does wellbut early Kia in Australia were missing

    All that room for a spare tyre and they still don't bother.
    No matter how big the battery every car on the market has 400km or so. We are never going to get any better.

    This is a great car, but they’re screwing us. The entry level is 30k aud in china, it’s 56k here. Even with 10k for stamp duties, deliveries, rego etc, it should still be nearly 20k cheaper. If it was priced about $40 k they would have cleaned up

    The trunk looks spacious but 18 cu ft is half the rated capacity of the Toyota RAV4's 37 cu ft (seats up).
    We've rented the latter and it visually looked as spacious as the EV5's trunk.
    What could be the reason for such a huge discrepancy?

    Even though they look stupid, fly nets are really the only things that work, the chemical based repellents sometimes work for a while, but they are very soon back on you. Don't you love the Australian wildlife that comes to you, they're very tame !!!

      Maybe, ... I would like to know that too. But if you go through the car's menu and turn it off there, would the insurance issue still be a problem when/if they investigated the cars software settings prior to an accident.

    Any chance you could please review the Xpeng G6 and G9 when it lands? I'm thinking about a family EV-SUV this year to replace our 2019 Santa Fe ActiveX, and the G6 or the G9 look like amazing value for money with a more premium equipment etc than the BYD and Kia products.

    기술 발전이 빠르게 진행 되고 있는 배터리를 옛 기준으로 생각하는 사람들이 아직도 많은 것 같다. 80%만 충전해야 한다는 것은 테슬라가 그렇게 권유하듯 설정해 놨기 때문도 있고, 기존 배터리 기술이 부족했던 점도 있었긴 하지만 요즘 신형 배터리, 특히 현대차와 기아차에 적용되고 있는 배터리는 100% 충전을 해도 아무런 문제가 없다. 그것이 LFP든 NCM이든 말이다. 조금 더 디테일하게 들어가면 LFP배터리는 고출력을 내지 않으면 아주 오래 쓸 수 있는 장점이 있지만 고출력을 내는 전기차에서는 빠른 열화가 일어난다. 그런데, 워낙 안정성이 높다 보니 엄청나게 출력을 끌어 내야 열화 걱정을 해야 하는 것이고, 테슬라에서 LFP배터리를 탑재한 모델 정도의 출력 특성이면 그렇게까지 큰 문제가 되지 않는다. 결론적으로 100% 충전을 자주 해도 아무 문제가 없다. 문제는 오히려 중국산 배터리 중에 CATL이나 BYD의 배터리보다 못한...중국 제품은 모두 알고 있겠지만 좋은 제품 부터 아주 질 낮은 제품까지 스펙트럼이 어느 나라 보다 넓기 때문에 요즘 중국 배터리가 좋다고 생각해서 아무 배터리나 가져다 쓴 제품을 쓰게 되면 실망할 뿐더러 안전에 위험까지 있게 된다. 즉, 검증 된 곳이 아니면 중국산은 쓰지 않아야 한다. 검증 된 기업의 배터리를 쓰게 되면 가성비가 괜찮다.
    NCM배터리의 경우 고성능 전기차가 아닌 이상 어지간한 출력에 별 반 영향이 없다. 작년부터 단결정 양극재 기술이 본격 도입 되면서 수명 안정성도 대폭 향상 되었다. 이 또한 정리하자면, 한국산 전기차에 NCM배터리가 달려 있다면 100% 충전 자주 해도 오래 오래 걱정 없이 쓸 수 있다. 배터리 기술에 대해 아주 자세히 말은 하지 않겠지만 최근 2~3년 간 빠르게 발전하고 있다고만 알면 되겠다.
    결론적으로, LFP든 NCM이든 100% 충전해도 아무런 문제가 없다. 단, 최신 배터리를 단 최신 전기차여야 그렇다. 4년 전에 출시한 전기차도 급속 충전 자주 하고 100%씩 충전해서 써도 50만 키로미터는 문제 없이 쓰곤 했는데, 이제는 더욱 가혹하게 써도 50만 키로는 훌쩍 넘어 갈 수 있다. 아직도 100% 걱정하는 사람들 보면 답답하다. 이제 그런 시대가 아니라고요.
