Good morning. I listened to the audio of James by Percival Everett. The book and the audio are great. Next year's Pulitzer Prize? I think that Percival Everett does not get the recognition that he deserves. I am reading Wandering Souls by Cecile Pin. It's interesting but I don't think it is the best written book. Catherine Lacey wrote a wonderful book called Pew. Right now I'm trying to read books off my shelves. Keep reading.

I’m so glad that you’re loving Here We Go Again, Greg! I look forward to your final thoughts on it, though I suspect your opinion won’t change in the last hour. I’ve read it twice and it’s one of my favorites of the year. I thought it was heartbreaking at times with such meaningful character connections - it’s my favorite of Alison Cochrun’s books yet!

I loved Biography of X - one of my favorite reads of last year, and one of very few books where I ran out and bought the hardcover for my shelves after reading it from the library. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I’m also glad you decided to read Biography of X, I’ve been a fan. I read Homesick by Jennifer Croft which I thought was very good and How to Build A Boat by Elaine Feeny which was ok but she an Irish author so I read it for you and Joel and last Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafron TR Lucia Graves which I thought was excellent. Have a great week

I finished the audio of Tom Lake a few days ago-sooo good! Especially with Meryl Streep narrating. I can see why you’ve picked it for your Pulitzer choice. I also finished reading Heaven & Earth-such a great, layered story.
I’m now listening to Chain-Gang All-Stars. When I first heard about it, I had no intention of reading it because I don’t love graphic violence, but your Pulitzer possibilities video convinced me to at least try it-I’m surprised how much I’m into it! I’m enjoying underlying jabs at racism, capitalism, our addiction to highly scripted “reality” tv, etc. The violence so far isn’t worse than an S A Crosby book (actually not as bad as one of those, so far anyway-I’m just a couple hours into it). …My holds for Absolution and Lost Journals of Sacajawea came up so I’ll be starting those soon. Lots of good reading! Hi to Joel & scritches to Teddy.

I am currently trying to overcome a book slump by embracing the “bun”, I just started “Just for the Summer” which isn’t my typical genre at all but I was cackling by page 3 and there’s a dog, so we are off to a strong start!

I adored Biography of X when I read it last summer, hope you enjoy it. Not to influence you, I personally thought it lost some steam in the back half but overall a great and moving novel, and it’s a rare one I’m excited to reread (don’t reread often).
In the middle of both James and The Details by Ia Genberg on audio and really loving both of them. Trying to decide how many of the Pulitzer contenders and Booker int’l shortlisters I’m going to try to squeeze in before the announcements. Never enough time!

Biography of X has been on my radar for a while and I’m interested in seeing if you continue to enjoy it.
I’m currently reading 3 books that I’m slowly progressing through- Moby Dick, a collection of Fran Lebowitz works and Handiwork by Sara Baume.
I just watched Lisa Frankenstein for the third time. I really love that one.

I'm starting Tom Lake this weekend. Greg, you should read So Big for your next Pulitzer Prize deep dive. You seem to like books about strong women. Selina is one of my favorite novel characters ever. She reminds me of my grandmother.

Ahhhh I’m so excited to read So Big! I loved Fanny Herself by Edna Ferber last year. I do think my next Pulitzer book will be House Made of Dawn since N Scott Momaday died earlier this year, but So Big will not be far behind.

I have mixed feelings about the Biography of X. It was clever, very manipulative which I would say is intentional, but I couldn't warm to it at all. Maybe I wasn't meant to. It's a tricky book. I look forward to your opinion when you've finished.

Having read Pew by Catherine Lacey I'm keen to read The Biography of X especially hearing your enthusiasm. Today I finished what will be one of my best books of the year, My Friends by Hisham Matar. Can't recommend it highly enough.
By the way, do hope you are going to visit West Cork while you are in Ireland - my home and favourite part of the world.

I remember people liking Pew so I may have to go back. And thank you for the recommendation!
Unfortunately, we had to scale back our ambition when we were finalizing our trip and lost West Cork. The only part on the west we’re going to get to is Galway and the Cliffs of Moher.
