As someone who has struggled with patellar tendonitis and with getting sufficient quad activation during squats, the leg press machine has been a lifesaver. The added stabilization protects my back (which I have injured before squatting a mere 95 lbs due to form breakdown) and allows me to focus on opening up my hips and properly loading my quads on a controlled, weighted eccentric. I understand there are many squat purists out there but trust me, moving ~200-300 lbs on a leg press machine for deep sets of 10-12 reps is much better than nothing.
I’m so sick of people disqualifying the leg press as a legitimate strength builder. The leg press is just as important as skull crusher’s. If you do full range of motion on the leg press you will build muscle and improve your squat.
Most important for the de-trained (elderly, obese, frail women) and the advanced lifter to target weaknesses. For the typical starting strength novice, squatting is simply the best thing to do, and leg press is wasted time and volume. But yes it does have its uses on either end of the spectrum.
Absolutely...I've gone from pressing half bodyweight to over 3 times bodyweight in 6 weeks suggests that I am building strength and muscle..currently can't go heavy on DL or Squat due to a sneaky lower back muscle issue which I have to nurse
That leg press was pulled from the titanic wreckage

i thought those were for storing extra plates.
Hmmm I completely expected him to denounce the leg press but his commentary makes sense as always.
I like Rip better when he’s not ranting, good video! I’m going to try to get my mom to start this.
Big salute 🫡 and Respect ✊ Starting Strength 🙏
Thank you
Why leg press if you can squat?
Brilliant Rip

The leg press is too squatting what the trap bar is too dead lifting.
