"So you can have the confidence that your best ideas are not trapped in somebody else's program" So beautifully spoken. WIll add this to my Obsidian collection!
Yeah, such a major topic to choose obsidian above the others...I'm just starting with it, but already leraned from somenone's comment at Obsidians' Discord, is to be carefull with plugins...you do not want to throw away that future proof capacity, using too much of customizations... ;)
@@linkingyourthinking I would agree….I think the reason is because it is a combination of not just what Obsidian is and how to use it…..it also gives you the practical reality of why yiu should use it and great common sense explanations with the topic used as an example…..gives the listener something to use to perhaps apply to their topics and apply the concepts he explained. Also above everything it is the compassion of the presenter who believe s deeply in what he is teaching and is truly committed in helping his listeners…..and also welcomes people to write for further clarification,…..that is what makes this man so good….
This is a terrific series for getting started! As Nick mentions, writing in Markdown text is fast and gives you portable plain-text documents, but it's also important for beginners to know that, by switching to "Preview" mode, you get beautifully formatted text (without all the #'s and *'s) that you can cut-and-past into Word or wherever.
You're absolutely right about this benefit. And you're presienct too! I may have already filmed an upcoming "Hotkeys" video showing exactly how to toggle Preview mode.
Thanks for this comment because despite its portability advantages, markdown is butt ugly and distracting. We are now coding fir the machines instead of the machines doing it for us! Nick does a terrific job setting and then delivering on learning objectives
Also I notice, you can right click and edit the current note in your default editor, which in my case is Typora, which converts markdown to wysiwyg on the fly.
This video has burned away all the anxiety that I had when I would look at Obsidian and wonder how I would ever start to master such a 'complicated' App. You've made the whole process of getting off the mark, incredibly simpler.
"You can have the confidence that your best ideas are not trapped in somebody else's program"!! If this is not the best quote of the century, I don't know what is 🤩
Nick I love the way how you are striving to maintain eye contact with us. Event tHough we aren't there with you in the literal sense! That is very professional!
@@Flumpfy Maybe so but making things simple is a lot harder than it looks. Usually the hardest. And thus deserved to be recognized. I've been needing to do serious note-taking to gather thoughts and ideas that are often lost which I often find regretful later on, sometimes years afterward. Been hearing about Obsidian. Tried to get into it. Seems too complicated. Delayed for over 1 year then found this video. It does help me get started. I don't care if the other commenters are bots to be honest (they just might not be). I just find these videos useful. In the times of stupid YT shorts and TickTockers, these kind of videos are valuable. And that matters to me. And yes, I am NOT a bot.
I appreciate your zen energy. I always get anxious when learning things that challenge my brain (perils of being dyslexic) but you are calm and clear. Also, I can't afford to feel anxious and defensive when my bf is trying to teach me how to use obsidian. 😆😬
Thank you very much for these online lessons. I couldn't find a convenient lesson in Russian. I will continue to work on your videos and send them to everyone who will get acquainted with Obsidian.
so kewl again. honestly, i've rarely seen, if at all, someone who explained things as clearly, cleanly, and simply as you do. I'm very impressed. really appreciate it, thanks dude
Nick's videos are excellent. I've tried so many (not very helpful) Obsidian tutorials here in YT that I gave up for a long time. Then I found these and Nick's whole approach: topics, sequence and presentation are just brilliant. Really turbocharges my learning. Thanks Nick Milo.
I've been using Obsidian in a rather naive fashion for quite a while, but I'm definitely ready to get into it a bit more, and make my use of it more efficient. I like these beginner tutorials even as someone who's not completely a beginner, because it helps me make sure I haven't missed something. For example, I never really used tags. I can see their value relative to the nested folder structure I have been using (allowing you to give multiple tags for a note, etc.), so I'll definitely start doing that now. Thank you! I still have some specific questions, but I'll go through the rest of the tutorials first to see if you're already addressing those somewhere.
Really nice and clear tutorial. Easy to follow and understand which is rare in most UA-cam videos. Overall very good teaching and presentation skills. Well done and thank you.
This is the only reason I have not started to use it yet. I spend most of my energy with new programs figuring out how and if it will be useful for me as an artist. It’s obviously useful to me but I never put it together that markdown is an actual system and all the videos iv watched seemed like gibberish when they used the system.Thank you for creating this series.
Nick - your work is incredibly well done. Truly grateful that you have built all this for people to improve themselves, their lives, and the lives of everyone. I think that give up learning new things because they get lost, lose momentum, or cannot follow the methodology because of the lack of skill of their teachers. You provide clear, concise, and meaningful, communication and support. As a fellow teacher and coach of many years, I appreciate your work. Thank you and I look forward to much more from you!
such a deeply effective series of videos - I literally had to stop because my psyche was overwhelmed by the possibilities instead of being overwhelmed with complexity 🙏❤️
Thanks for your hard work, Nick! The keys you mentioned help me to not overthink about formatting during my first days using Obsidian. You gave just the right amount of what matters most for now. Looking forward to your next guidance. ^^
Lovely to find you, having downloaded Obsidian recently. I plan to use it for my Masters in Psychology beginning in January. You have a wonderful teaching style and I’m looking forward to watching your other videos. I’m still teaching, always learning and turn 64 next week. You’ve got real talent.
I've watched the 1st video out of curiosity, and when I started to watch this one I thought that I might forget about the tags. Now I've decided to install Obsidian and take notes while watching the video :)
Thank you Nick. Frustrated with Evernotes as I couldn't organize it the way I wanted it & Intimidated with the complicated Notion, Fortunately I stumbled upon your series on Obsidian. Your new subbie :)
Great video series. I started using Obsidian without watching your videos, mistake, I think. My challenge now is to make sense of these using the skills I learned from your video series.
I so appreciate this how-to video and the wonderfully inspiring examples of how it might be used to grow control of our thoughts and concepts and our intelligence at the same time. I can immediately get a feel for "the power of linking my thinking." And as a friend once told me, "Organized thought is power in the mental environment." This gives me goose bumps... We must find a way to be in control in this medium OR others with more powerful minds will control us.
