Cabin in the Woods 24: Versetta Stone Corners & Installing Metal Siding

  • In this episode of cabin in the woods, I share my tips on installing versetta stone siding corners. Also, if you stick around till the end, we start installing Metal siding on the walls. There seemed to be a huge concern over the way the Versetta Stone corners looked in the last episode. In my opinion, if you wait til it's all done, you might change your mind. Let me know in the comments below if they look a little better after this episode? Also, don't forget to hit that thumbs up...it's easy to do and helps.
    I have been getting quite a few questions about the Dewalt, roofing coil nailer and how it has been holding up. For installing Versetta Stone, it is amazing and has definitely been a huge time saver. If doing this type of work, or any sort of metal trim or siding work, I'd highly recommend it. You can check it out with the link below which is also an affiliate link. Thanks for the support!

      Curious .. Since Greg rents the small house Kyle bought some time back, does Kyle hand Greg a check at the beginning of every month and then Greg hand it right back for rent. Obviously exaggerated thought since I’m guessing rent is cheap in Illinois so hopefully Greg gets a monster paycheck . Made me think “math never lies” Have your employee be your tenant too!! Math never does lie. All kidding aside though. I think Kyle is a pretty decent role model in a lot of ways and it’s good he promotes math for its practical uses and for good.... unlike the Wall Street derivatives guys who are all about greed. Kyle is good for viewers and somewhat inspiring ...

    Once you accept the fact - stone look panels are decorative, they are not and will not replace stone veneer walls. OH! that's right, stone veneer isn't really a full depth stone wall ( that would be a castle ). IF IT LOOKS GOOD IT IS GOOD. The Versetta stone walls LOOK GREAT. Your craftsmanship is always top notch. Both of you should be congratulated. I always look forward to your next video. Thanks and take care all.

    I must say myself. I never been a fan of the fake stone siding. They just look fake. I as well was cringing a bit in my mind about the corners as it just looks as if part of the product line is missing...the corners and instead it was just put together like that. I don't agree as well that "craft specialists" complain about fake stone siding because they are scared to lose their trade.. the fact is that it remains fake stone siding. Having that said.. i do really like this combination with the steel color. It looks really good. I as well understand very well that not every building can just have a hand crafted stone layer as it is very expensive. Anyhow, it just fits for the type of building and I am converted.

    I think the corners looks great given the material you have to work with. Many have posted about mitre corners, etc but ideally the company should make/provide a corner piece similar to vinyl siding to create a nicer transition. It's a manufactured product, you have to work with what you got.

    I like the Rosetta Stone, but I’m not a fan of “weaving” the corners. Makes the 3 panel system stand out whereas if it were butted straight up on one side, I think it would look more natural.

    • @darwinawardcommittee
      @darwinawardcommittee 4 роки тому

      Yeah I don’t like the weaved corner. Looks too much like Lincoln logs. I think the straight run of butt ends would be better.

  • @puddytat62
    @puddytat62 4 роки тому +18

    Well IMHO by interleaving the corner pieces so that one side sticks out and then the next row the other wall side sticks out tends to bury the illusion that this is full stone. By revealing the thinness of the stone layer you cheapen the look and really wrecks the impression of a full depth stone. I think that by picking ONE side only you preserve in the impression of set stone. The alternating step back telegraphs that it is thin stone veneer. I know the guy from Versetta is the "technical expert" but I do think he is wrong on this concept. Well IMHO anyways

    • @stephensheren1283
      @stephensheren1283 4 роки тому +6

      I have never used versetta stone, but I have used other manufactured stone similar to it. In order to preserve the look of depth to the stone, I mitered the corners and used the same piece of stone to wrap around the corner. Fit properly, it can make the thin stone appear to be very thick. It’s not perfect, but in my opinion looks much better than seeing the thin Edges on corners.

      Well that’s clever. Where you cut the stone piece the matching cut off portion gets returned on the other wall corner . Not sure RR saw can cut miters though. I have also seen another product similar to versetta tha has corner pieces where the return is a 2-3 inch wrap around so it looks like a thick stone once applied.

    • @puddytat62
      @puddytat62 4 роки тому

      Stephen Sheren clever idea. So the stone you cut you miter and weep the matching portions around the corner. Not sure RR saw can do miters . Have seen other products where the outside corners come with a deep return that wraps around the corner making the stone look legit.

    I'm hoping DeWalt eventually ditches the flywheel for the smaller gauge nailers and go towards gas compression. The 18G brand nailer looses a lot of driving power from recoil when the wheel contacts the striking shaft. Beyond that, the roofer seems to be the best nailer in the line. Recent faux stone looks so good now.

    Is there no need to install trim around the windows where the Versetta stone terminates into it? Just a drip flash on top of the ledge and run J around the window above the ledge where the metal panels will be? Doing a barndo for a customer and we're installing Versetta stone wainscot around the perimeter. Probably do a 40" wainscot with 4050 windows that will set into the wainscot 4-6".
