    Due to real life issues I got demotivated to train and lift weights, Mike Mentzer motivated me to start over again and go at it THAT much harder, Thank you Mike. Sincerely.

      Mike did so much while he was here. He's wrote a lot of books and done countless seminars explaining his HIT methods. If it wasn't for Mike's techniques I would've stopped lifting in my twenty's when my joints were hurting from overtraining. Thank you Mike for everything you did for the bodybuilding community.

      I find it very odd and interesting that both Mike and Ray were very objective and logical individuals however they both had behaviors that were completely illogical and damaging, which ultimately contributed to their early deaths. It’s a shame they passed so prematurely but their contributions have been immense.

    Can you imagine doing deadlifts at the end of a workout..slowly like he is doing, after such an intense, grueling workout? All the movements he did prior were exhausting as hell on the muscles and nervous system. Also had very little rest through the workout. I'd probably throw up deadlifting at the end of all of that.

    Bill pearl once said about Ray mentzer that he was the strongest bodybuilder he'd ever seen and Mike was equally strong...read somewhere that Ray mentzer once squatted 900 lbs for 2 reps.....
    Look at both of them now, Mike looks at least 70 years old... don't understand whether it is because of juice he took in excess or natural causes....

    • @richbrake9910
      @richbrake9910 5 років тому +8

      I heard from Ellington Darden the Mentzers had heart disease in their family, and also kidney disease from the drugs. If their hearts were functioning at only 30% or 50%, it would explain their appearance. Either way, there was something genetic going on and not just side effects from juice.

    • @peternagy-im4be

      A deadly combination of hereditary disease, anabolic steroid use, heavy smoking and drinking, recreational drugs.

    • @daviddufresne343
      @daviddufresne343 3 роки тому +10

      His brother was suffering from genetic kidney failure. Mike lived a very poor lifestyle and apparently both of their parents did die relatively early from heart disease so also a genetic component. Don't underestimate what a health setback can do to you. My Grandfather was like Superman into his late 50s- no gray hair, good muscle mass with no roids or TRT did running and weight lifting ate well, didn't drink, basically everything you can do to live healthy. Unfortunately most men in our family get heart problems in our 40s or 50s and he got a bad stroke in his late 50s. By the time he was 60 he looked like an old man. I would say 2 years probably aged him 2 decades. I'm getting up there myself. Haven't taken quite as good of care so I look a bit older than he did, but I still look a lot younger and fitter than most people my age. It sucks when you know heart problems are going to come up almost for sure at a checkup within the next few years, but it is what it is.

  • @KalliBella1
    @KalliBella1 5 років тому +2

    Wow! That was awesome!!!! I love the true motivation/inspiration talk by Mike Mentzer. As a woman, I would like to get to my genetic potential. I have already seen improvement in strength in 4 weeks of doing high intensity weight training. I'm still learning though. My goal is to change current body composition and to increase strength as I age. I heard a doctor say that muscle is the organ of longevity.

    @curccan ok then, you are wrong. it is really at least 4 days rest between every training. and so you train a specific exercise about 20 days apart. but with this way of training you train the muscles every 9 days apart. you train your arms and shoulders on 1 day but about 9 days later you train you back and chest and so you use your arms and shoulders again. i also didnt believe in this way of training for many years but i made so much progress in a short time i wont ever go back to volume.

    @donerlich I always do deadlifts after squats. I have been doing HIT for years, one set slow reps and it totally wipes you out but get exellent results. • @RalphStarbreaker
    @RalphStarbreaker 13 років тому +1

    @pvsg1990
    The body works on a circadian rhythm. It usually takes 24.2 hours after cessation of a workout that has stimulated growth for that growth to occur.
    Mike's later advice of waiting up to 20 days between workouts was misguided. He was so convinced that training to failure was an indication of growth stimulation, that when a plateau was reached he believed it was due to overtraining, hence he reasoned a longer rest between workouts was necessary to allow recovery.
    Use progress as a guide

    2chad01234: no. in mike's book it clearly says that you should give your body at least 96 hours of rest between workouts. This means he is doing a chest workout once every 18 or 20 days or so.

    • @mdd1963
      @mdd1963 2 роки тому

      that does seem a tad too infrequent, doesn't it? :) (after a bout of slow strength gains from taking 2 days off between upper/lower body workouts, I've reduced training of each to just once per week, plus 2 days in the week of high speed treadmill sprint intervals....; the first 6 days off, already picked up 2 more reps on an AMRAP set.)

      Not sure what the case was with this guy, but his viewpoint was that everyone was different, so just like some people needed a higher or lower dose of a medicine, some people needed to hit body parts more or less frequently. His philosophy also changed over time, but generally you'd hit each bodypart twice a week on a Mentzer program, but if you weren't gaining weight and getting stronger he might reduce it to once a week.

And his brother also died a couple of days after Mike. Even his posture appears to be like someone 70-80 years old. He was a very intelligent person. His loss to Arnold in the '80 Olympia was something that crushed his spirit.
