Due to real life issues I got demotivated to train and lift weights, Mike Mentzer motivated me to start over again and go at it THAT much harder, Thank you Mike. Sincerely.
Mike : all right give me one more.... (Markus lift the bar and scream..) Mike : all right give me one more....(Markus lift the bar and blood came from his eyes) Mike : all right give me one more ... ( the guy lift the bar and die ) Mike : I know you are dead tired but give me one more..... I love mike!!
Mike did so much while he was here. He's wrote a lot of books and done countless seminars explaining his HIT methods. If it wasn't for Mike's techniques I would've stopped lifting in my twenty's when my joints were hurting from overtraining. Thank you Mike for everything you did for the bodybuilding community.
A very sad loss. According to Wikipedia, his brother Ray also passed away two days later after he found Mike dead in the same apartment block. Rest In Peace to the Mentzer Brothers 😔
I find it very odd and interesting that both Mike and Ray were very objective and logical individuals however they both had behaviors that were completely illogical and damaging, which ultimately contributed to their early deaths. It’s a shame they passed so prematurely but their contributions have been immense.
Can you imagine doing deadlifts at the end of a workout..slowly like he is doing, after such an intense, grueling workout? All the movements he did prior were exhausting as hell on the muscles and nervous system. Also had very little rest through the workout. I'd probably throw up deadlifting at the end of all of that.
There is more great info in his book, "High Intensity Training The Mike Mentzer Way." You might find it at your local library. It has techniques to increase the intensity even more.
Bill pearl once said about Ray mentzer that he was the strongest bodybuilder he'd ever seen and Mike was equally strong...read somewhere that Ray mentzer once squatted 900 lbs for 2 reps..... Look at both of them now, Mike looks at least 70 years old... don't understand whether it is because of juice he took in excess or natural causes....
I heard from Ellington Darden the Mentzers had heart disease in their family, and also kidney disease from the drugs. If their hearts were functioning at only 30% or 50%, it would explain their appearance. Either way, there was something genetic going on and not just side effects from juice.
His brother was suffering from genetic kidney failure. Mike lived a very poor lifestyle and apparently both of their parents did die relatively early from heart disease so also a genetic component. Don't underestimate what a health setback can do to you. My Grandfather was like Superman into his late 50s- no gray hair, good muscle mass with no roids or TRT did running and weight lifting ate well, didn't drink, basically everything you can do to live healthy. Unfortunately most men in our family get heart problems in our 40s or 50s and he got a bad stroke in his late 50s. By the time he was 60 he looked like an old man. I would say 2 years probably aged him 2 decades. I'm getting up there myself. Haven't taken quite as good of care so I look a bit older than he did, but I still look a lot younger and fitter than most people my age. It sucks when you know heart problems are going to come up almost for sure at a checkup within the next few years, but it is what it is.
Wow! That was awesome!!!! I love the true motivation/inspiration talk by Mike Mentzer. As a woman, I would like to get to my genetic potential. I have already seen improvement in strength in 4 weeks of doing high intensity weight training. I'm still learning though. My goal is to change current body composition and to increase strength as I age. I heard a doctor say that muscle is the organ of longevity.
@curccan ok then, you are wrong. it is really at least 4 days rest between every training. and so you train a specific exercise about 20 days apart. but with this way of training you train the muscles every 9 days apart. you train your arms and shoulders on 1 day but about 9 days later you train you back and chest and so you use your arms and shoulders again. i also didnt believe in this way of training for many years but i made so much progress in a short time i wont ever go back to volume.
Think about previous exercises! I doubt U could do that on last exercise... If Dead Lift was his first exercise he still probably lift over 400 :D Don't be obsessed by the weight!
@Soccasteve when mike mentser refers to taking a break of at least 3 days is because he is refering to the cns. your cns takes longer to recover than the mussles itself.
It’s certainly great to train like this - OCCASIONALLY. The problem is if you are a working dad in some type of physical job lol. That’s why i dont squat as much any more and completely stopped deadlifting.
@32371 do you deadlift at the end of your workout or the beginning?? If you deadlift at the beginning then I suggest you try training H I T with your deadlifts at the end of your workout, it's a different kettle of fish then my son!!!
@donerlich I always do deadlifts after squats. I have been doing HIT for years, one set slow reps and it totally wipes you out but get exellent results. I dont do deadlift after chest/back as im too knackered so i do it on leg day which works really well and i take 8 days break before doing my next workout after that session
@pvsg1990 The body works on a circadian rhythm. It usually takes 24.2 hours after cessation of a workout that has stimulated growth for that growth to occur. Mike's later advice of waiting up to 20 days between workouts was misguided. He was so convinced that training to failure was an indication of growth stimulation, that when a plateau was reached he believed it was due to overtraining, hence he reasoned a longer rest between workouts was necessary to allow recovery. Use progress as a guide
For the lower back Arthur Jones the Godfather of HIT would recommend the lower back machine which is what he had Ray doing back in the early 80s...not deadlifts.
2chad01234: no. in mike's book it clearly says that you should give your body at least 96 hours of rest between workouts. This means he is doing a chest workout once every 18 or 20 days or so.
that does seem a tad too infrequent, doesn't it? :) (after a bout of slow strength gains from taking 2 days off between upper/lower body workouts, I've reduced training of each to just once per week, plus 2 days in the week of high speed treadmill sprint intervals....; the first 6 days off, already picked up 2 more reps on an AMRAP set.)
@@mdd1963 for advanced lifters. If you are a beginner, you have to use more frequency since you will be weak as hell and your body wont be so fuc up after a session
@tcurteis With perfect form though with the idea in mind of stimulating the muscle through the full range of motion, not just moving the weight. When you do that, you'll be surprised how much it takes off what you usually work out with.
@justwannamakeluv Hes Back got injured. And This Method Doesnt Keep you in Shape, It Grows You to An Alpha Male. Thanky Very Much For Uploading This, Markus And Mikes Made a Good Team =). All the Best to you Markus !!!
@express375 Yeah man, that's the only thing I don't like about HIT. It might be the best training method for growth stimulation but if you're like me and you love lifting it's disappointing to not lift at least 3x a week
@Agui007 yes any type of HEAVY/RESISTANCE training is beneficial for just about anyone. Now on the contrary, this training is HARD. and you will probably quit within the first week. me personally, I LOVE H.I.T. I love the pain and the strength gains. and my muscles are so full. but none of this does anything if your diet is trash. for your health.
When he says "once every six days," does that mean each split every six days, or he literally only goes to the gym every six days? That would mean each split every 2 1/2 weeks! That seems like a long time.
Not sure what the case was with this guy, but his viewpoint was that everyone was different, so just like some people needed a higher or lower dose of a medicine, some people needed to hit body parts more or less frequently. His philosophy also changed over time, but generally you'd hit each bodypart twice a week on a Mentzer program, but if you weren't gaining weight and getting stronger he might reduce it to once a week.
Every 6 days this man works out? Chest and Back is every 6 for roughly once per week? Then Legs and such every 6 days? Confused lol. Guessing it's basically: Monday: Chest and Back Wednesday: Legs Friday: Delts, Biceps & Triceps ?? Is this correct?
as far as i believe in mike and ray's (i think, people almost forget ray....) methods: why did they stopped building their bodies and misused drugs? i talk about meth.... they would be great coaches in those days and they would be needed like vince gironda.... 💪😊👍
It's striking to observe the physical decline of Mike Mentzer as seen in these videos. I believe he died very shortly after completing this series, actually only a few days after. And his brother also died a couple of days after Mike. Even his posture appears to be like someone 70-80 years old. He was a very intelligent person. His loss to Arnold in the '80 Olympia was something that crushed his spirit.
Did this Markus guy get jacked by using this HIT training style or did he get jacked by using conventional training methods first and then he started using HIT?
@justwannamakeluv He kept saying workout less and less frequently. Guess he finally just stopped lol. No disrespect to either of the Mentzers though...
Due to real life issues I got demotivated to train and lift weights, Mike Mentzer motivated me to start over again and go at it THAT much harder, Thank you Mike. Sincerely.
