  • This is a story of restoring and customizing a 1959 VW Bus. Even more than that, this is the story of the 1st time that I realized God was real through a major personal experience in my life.
    We filmed this near the actual location of the VW Bus crash on a trip to Simi Valley in Southern California on 12/26/13. We were out on the Rocky Ridge trail where it was not the ideal filming conditions as the Santa Ana winds were blowing at gusts of up to 30 mph. I had a lot of fun in editing trying to remove the wind noise but not make my voice sound to weird.
    Thank the Lord that I had taken these photos 30 years ago to be able to retell the amazing thing God did in my life in this video. All praise and glory goes to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!

    wow..
    my fave lines_ "even that didnt totally wake me up" - a warning of the wickedness of heart
    "I have God and not that bus" A call to reassess our priorities.
    You were busy with the bus and God used the same bus to make you get busy telling people about Jesus. Praise God.

      jeahere After that event in my life, now that I can look back on it through the eyes of being a Christian, I am thankful just to be alive to tell the story today. All that happened on that night and not even a scratch on myself. God is so good to have been patient with me when I was living a life totally opposed to Him and His ways. God's goodness and love for us is amazing!

    Clome on that's just pure luck! I survived a crash too and so have many other people. That has got nothing to do with god.

    • @christianadventure
      @christianadventure  8 років тому +1

      I'm not thinking that being held up in the air and defying gravity would be considered luck. As I think about being lucky and un-lucky, what exactly is that? It is something that would be considered unexplainable or magical favor or lack of it. Where does this unexplainable or magical power come from?
      Personally, I don't believe in luck. I know the Lord God, our creator, in a real and personal way. Anyone that truly wants to know if God is real or not, can find out that He is. It is the whole reason and purpose that He put us here. To know Him in a real and personal way. God has made Himself known and has done too many things in my life to question His existence. I would have to be lying to myself to say I don't believe.
      He absolutely saved me in my cash and maybe He did you as well to let you know He was with you and cares for you! :)
      Have a good week! God bless!

    bummer no subtitles on this video :( I'm deaf and had no idea what you are saying...

    • @christianadventure
      @christianadventure  8 років тому +1

      +MicBergsma Wow! I'm sorry that you were not able to hear it! I will have to write down the story at some point.
      Basically, I spent about 3 years building and spending pay checks on it. It was basically all finished except for the interior. I drove it for about 3 weeks when I had fallen asleep at the wheel coming home very late at night. I just missed that car on the side of the road, hit the freeway sign that crashed into my roof and slid down the freeway on it's side for about 50 ft. There were no seat belts in the van, but something was miraculously holding me up and keeping me from falling down on the side of the van that was sliding down the freeway! God saved me from at least losing my legs if I would have hit the car that I missed by a fraction of an inch and from falling down on the side of my van while sling where I could have lost a hand or foot if I would have broke through a window. I swung my feet and legs down after it stopped sliding and stood up and remember saying "that was weird!" A few people stopped on the freeway and helped me flip the van back up on it's wheels and push it over to the side.
      I just thank God that I am even here today to tell this story!
      Thank you for watching and hope you are having a good day! God bless!

    Really felt sorry for the bus being a car guy myself and being on my second 56 ford f100. the huge involvement in all aspects (time,money,work,emotional,etc) concerning a project like this take a great chunk of our lives so it's better be worth it. I totally respect the aftermath of your experience but I know death is freedom although temporary while life is so mistakenly overrated by us intelectual animals.Good luck, brother!

    • @christianadventure
      @christianadventure  9 років тому +1

      Roger Pinheiro Thanks for understanding losing something after putting so much of oneself into it. It really does take a big chunk of our lives as you say. God's word does teach us that this life on earth is temporary and that there will be trouble. Unfortunately when we look around us at how badly we treat each other, we do look like, as you say, "intellectual animals." Thankfully, God also tells us that this is not our home. He created us to live for all eternity in Heaven with Him, for those that believe. God bless and have a Merry Christmas!

    Powerful testimony, brother in Christ, wow. 30 years ago I had my similar Damascus Road experience, (Honda Civic, not a splitty), but same result: it made a believer outta me. Apparently, that's what was needed for God to get our attention, so in the eternal picture, it was a good thing it happened. Sometimes, we have to lose our lives to receive it again. Btw, I'm currently restoring a '58 bus I found out in the woods in Alaska where I live, discarded and left for junk, and it's coming back great, a story of redemption in itself...if I can take an old junk bus and bring it back to useful, just think of what God can do with a discarded life...now, there's something to ponder. Praise God. Bless you.✌️

    So why did he let you fall asleep? Why wouldn't god just pay you a visit if he wants you to change your path? That is how he did it in the old days. Do you really think god communicates by letting you have a car crash and then save you from death?

    • @christianadventure
      @christianadventure  10 років тому

      Nico van Os You have a good question. Unfortunately, for us humans, sometimes something like this is what it takes to get our attention. There were a number of times in my life, before the crash, that God was trying to speak to me through His people. I wasn't listening and didn't get it.
      In the crash, no one was hurt and I didn't get a scratch, but I lost what was a god in my life at that time. It got my attention, and got me in a position where I would be willing to hear from Him in my future encounters with Him.
      Thanks for asking! Hope you are having a good day! God Bless.

    • @nicovanos
      @nicovanos 10 років тому

      ***** Well if an angel with wings comes to visit me it would make me listen more than a car crash. Some people survive a crash, so that is god saving them. Some people die in a crash. So is that also god? If the first case is true then the second must also be true.
      The 'gods saved me because he had a plan' stories always make me uncomfortable, because it displays a desire of people to be special. Like a kid class that wants to be picked by the teacher to do a certain task.
      It sounds to me that you made some changes in your life that have been good for you. Taking better care of yourself and doing good things for other people actually makes you feel better and happier. Isn't it more humble and good to acknowledge that and to live well than to assume you are chosen by god to be part of his plan.

    • @christianadventure
      @christianadventure  10 років тому

      Nico van Os The awesome part is that we are all loved and special to God, and He has a purpose and plan for each one of us. I am no one special because it wasn't my time to go yet. God just knew that this was what would get my attention.
      God created us all to live for all eternity. In this short life we are now living, we get the chance to accept the gift of eternal life, with Him, that He is offering us. This, through what Jesus Christ did on the cross for each one of us.
      God did come to this earth in the person of Jesus Christ, and we humans crucified Him on a cross.
      I know where you're coming from, we humans have a tendency to want to tell God how He should do things. We can rest assured that He knows what He is doing. Even if we can't see it, His ways are higher and better than ours, because He is God.

    • @nicovanos
      @nicovanos 10 років тому

      How do you know all are loved by god? Isn't there going to be a judgement? Doesn't people go to hell? Would you send people you love to hell?
      What is the plan for those people that had no changes in this world? I had a classmate in school that died on the age of 8 because of cancer. What is the big plan behind that?
      Or in the case that someone I know had a baby that was born death.
      If everything that he does is qualified as 'better' then how do we determine good from wrong? I believe that healthy and happy people having lives without suffering is better. And that is what I work on in my day to day life.
      About Jesus christ. You say that 'we humans' crucified him. Do you mean you and I are also responsible for that? So each child born in this world is personally responsible for this crucifixion? Then unborn children are not without sin.
      How can I be held responsible for something a tribe did in some distant land 2000 years ago? Is that just? Is that right? I know a few german people. I don't hold them responsible for something their parents or great parents did some 70 years ago.
      And did god not come to earth to be crucified and to fulfil scripture? So before he came to earth he already knew for sure what was going to happen. That means that he wanted it to happen. So the people in those days basically carried out gods will.
      There is something inherently wrong with the Jesus christ story. If god came to earth to forgive then why not just ... forgive? Why does a person or himself need to be tortured before he is able to forgive?
      I'm sorry for being critical, but I had a religious upbringing and at some point I realised that most stories don't make sense when you think about it. And answers like 'those are his mysterious ways' did not satisfy me.

    • @christianadventure
      @christianadventure  10 років тому

      Nico van Os Hello. Hope you are well.
      God tells us in His word that He loves us all, and He gives us all a choice to love Him or not. This is our free will that He has given us. He does not force us to love and obey Him. He created each one of us to come to know Him and experience His love for us personally, and to be with Him in the perfect place for all eternity.
      He is a God of love, but He is also a just God. We learn right from wrong from what He, the creator of all things, teaches us. We either choose to love and obey Him and His ways or reject and live in rebellion toward Him and His ways. At the appointed time, He will gather together those that accepted His gift, to be in heaven with Him, and those that chose to reject Him and His gift of heaven, will be sent to the only other option, that they themselves chose, hell. God sends people where they "choose" to go. God created hell for fallen angels, not people. Unfortunately some people choose to go there. He did not create a 2nd heaven for all this that do evil, reject and hate Him.
      The reason there is evil, pain and suffering in this world is because man chose sin over God. This turned everything upside down from the way God created it to be. God, being God, knew that we would do this, and still chose to make a way for us to have another chance. He allows us to see, through the thousands of years in the Old Testament in the Bible, that man could not do this on our own. That is why He came in the person of Jesus Christ, to die the death that we deserve for sinning against Him, so that we would not have to. Jesus Christ died, descended to hell, conquered the grave and death, so that we could as well. This is if we accept Him for who He is, our Lord and Savior. Yes, he knew man would kill Him, not us personally, but human kind. But, He had a plan for that as well. To turn even something like that for good, for us.
      We are all born with a sin nature. Children do not need to be taught to be selfish, throw tantrums or be mean to another child. Having said this, God calls us to make a choice to choose Him, or to reject and be separated from Him. A child without the ability to understand this kind of a decision, is not going to be held responsible for that. A child under the age of accountability that dies, is really hard for us that are still in this world. Looking at it through God's eyes, these children have reached their destination that they were created for. They are in a perfect place, where this is no more pain, suffering or tears. Eternity is what God created us for ultimately not this world we are in at this time. This is where we have the opportunity to get to know God, who He is, what He is like, and make a decision of whether we want to spend eternity with Him or not.
      Hope this helps with your questions and that you are having a good day.
      God Bless.
      Scott

    That's a very good testimony video. Its incredible the mercy God has for us to put up with all our stuff when we think we have this thing called life figured out. I belong to a ministry called Bugs4Christ where we mentor to youth about how God restores our life while at the same showing them how a worn out VW can be brought back from what some might see as lost.

      foamermetal That is so cool that you are using the restoration of a VW to teach a spiritual principal! Praise God for the way He uses our past and things that are of interest to us, to reach those that do not know Him. God Bless you and your ministry as you do the work He has for you!

      The All Night Diner The responsibility for the crash was totally all mine. I was living a partying and drinking lifestyle that led to this crash and I am not blaming anyone one else for that. Yes, God could have kept me from the crash, but I would have never seen and realized that He was real, as I did, in the crash.
      God used my irresponsibility, which led to me wrecking my cool bus, and instead led me to eternal life in Jesus Christ! As much as I liked my bus, I would much rather have eternal life! The bus is a temporary thing in this short life, but eternal life is forever!
      Have a good day!

      +sabri rubi fernandez The Bible is actually incredibly amazing! It was written over a period of 1500 years with 40 writers that were inspired by God to write what was written. The writers were from many different time periods, locations and cultures, but they all fit together in the perfect account of who God is, how much He loves us and his rescue plan to save us from the penalty of sin!
      There is an amazing about of ancient manuscripts that we have to verify and make translations into various languages and cultures from. We have far more ancient manuscripts for the Bible than any other writing that is used today.
      Unfortunately there are those that discount the Bible and claim that there are errors and contradictions in it. Every one that has been brought to my attention, that I have personally looked at, has been a matter of taking something out of context and misrepresenting a passage rather than there being a contradiction or error.
      It is so awesome to know that God is God, creator of all things, and that nothing that man can do can mess up what He has taught us about Himself. Through persecution and attempts throughout thousands of years of trying to do away with the teaching of God in His word, nothing has been able to do away with it. He continues to allow us to be able to read His word for ourselves and see how much He loves each and every one of us!
      God bless and hope you have a great week!

    Why didn’t Jesus stop you from crashing. Why didn’t Jesus wake you up?

    • @christianadventure
      @christianadventure  5 років тому

      That is a good question and I am not even going to pretend that I know the reason why He does everything the way that He does it. He definitely could have kept me from crashing or woke me up, but I would have never known that He did something miraculous in the midst of what ended up happening. As I mentioned in the video, I saw something crazy happen, where I was so close to death, that caused me to see that He was real and that ultimately completely changed the way my life ended up going. I am very thankful for that redirection. God bless!

      YpsiFrog Yes, He could have, but the amazing thing is that by allowing me to fall asleep He allowed me to begin waking up to the things of Him. He has totally transformed my life and way of thinking to a life that I never even knew existed! Thanks for watching and your question! Hope you are having a good day. God bless.
