The vibratory compactor did a much better job at packing the silage pile compared to the usual tractors. We had to operate both the tractors and the sheeps foot at the same time. Tractors to form the pile and sheepsfoot to pack. The unit in this video burned 4.8 gallons of diesel per hour. It made excellent feed but at our volume levels it is not worth the added cost. We now only use tractors. Hope this answers your questions!
Quite a few 6 row machines out here too, but usually multiple machines in each field. Most custom guys are going to the claas 960 or 980 with 8-10 row heads. Rent was $4500 for the month with limited hours. It worked really well. Climbed better than I thought but once it got just a bit too steep we spun out bad. Have to keep it on the face and let tractor get the sides.
Only a 7400 with a 6 row? that is the standard in our area. A few 900 Claas with 8 rows. Most of our fields are only 20-40 acres and we all have concrete bunkers so you cant quite slam it in as fast as a pile like you guys on the dry side. What was rent on that thing?
