Sunsoft used special chips on their NES cartridges that gave their games extra sound channels. The famicom already has extra sound channels, but the wires were snipped on the NES. Not sure what that means for Sunsoft's famicom titles like this one, as the music sounds identicl to Journry to Silius, but those are the factors to think with. Sunsoft music was always top tier on the NES. Even games like Fester's Quest and Platoon - real stinkers on the console - has some exceptional tracks.
The European version is also called Journey to Silius. It's otherwise the same with the US release but Jay has the Japanese palette. It's better imo than that silly little boy with a gun.
Funny thing is (if you can believe this one), the US version was SUPPOSED to be a Terminator licensed game but Sun-Soft lost the licence before the game was even halfway finished. It then became what is it today in US and Europe. No idea there was a change for the Japanese version though.
Inspirational Gamer Yeah, it was supposed to be a Terminator game in Japan also. They just went on and finished the game because they felt it was good.
Gotta love how the story goes: "after many years of space colonization, Jay's father PASSED AWAY"... "...they will pay for the DEATH OF MY FATHER" hey, it's not their fault!
the evening news reported that jay´s father´s death was an accident. Several days later jay finds a floppy disk left in his father´s room. ´´I hear the terrorists are planning against the colony development you must complete my mission if I cannot´´ ´´They will pay the price for the death of my father´´ it was about story too back then but people used to read the whole thing
Fun fact, this game's title is, arguably, ROUGH World and not RAF world. [rʌf] as shown on the title is actually the pronunciation guide to the word "Rough", which is the word shown in katakana... and last time I checked, ʌ isn't the lowercase usage of 'a'.
Yes, it was originally supposed to be terminator game, but Sunsoft lost the license to it thus they changed the title, jinxed sprites a bit and made a really really silly story to patch the rest.
This was the one that I played instead of Journey to Silius, but still an amazing game nonetheless. Very underrated game and had one of the best NES soundtracks!
The only way to advance in "Journey to Silius" (RAF World) is to keep shooting and knowing what will happen next. My successful runs during childhood weren't much different.
Sometimes it even looks like that it is not a player on steroid cheats, but that it is no less than some sort of Google's trained AI/ neural network playing - it runs almost ahead of screen at times and get all enemies down right at border of screen :j !! Cheating is ok, so author and viewers do not waste their time hunting nostalgia too much. But on such level?! Not a single miss and hit :o ..... Don't know :l
Sunsoft music is so amazing on the NES.
This game's music is in top 5 best NES tracks of all time.
yeah, I really love the BGM and still can remember it since childhood

Did you know: The Europe version of this game is called "Journey to Silius" but uses the sprite of the main character from Raf World.
He makes the game look easy. Trust me, it isn't.
I think it's tool-assisted (tas).
LOL yes I look drunk and lost in comparison
Kimmo Laine Not so skillful if he uses turbo.
That’s because he cheated and used a turbo button.
It's one of the easiest NES games. Just takes couple of play-throughs to get good.
Обожал эту игру, музыка одна из лучших на NES!
The North American version of this game is called Journey To Silius, Raf World Is the Japanese Version

+Inspirational Gamer But Damn LJN made a terrible game of Terminator.
American version worse

In their defense, it was not about story back then, pure and pristine gameplay is where it was at, and still is.

+Jonathan Jensen Sir could you please stop yelling, this is a funeral home.
+joesomenumbers Maybe I want to wake the dead... :)
[7:55] He simply outran that parrot head thing. Quite impressive.

Jomaster The Second indeed it is! Armchair language nerd so I instantly recognized it as an IPA transcription.

One of my favourite soundtracks ) that was very cool at those times.
This was the one that I played instead of Journey to Silius, but still an amazing game nonetheless. Very underrated game and had one of the best NES soundtracks!
awesome music
Daaaamn do I love this soundtrack! Sick
JohnX895 is a beast! This run is so perfect that it makes me think this was TAS!
It is TAS.
Great music
Longplay?? Looks more like speedrun to me! :O
I like main character sprite in Raf World, he is cooler than Journey to Silius
That soundtrack. Is amazing wow
Wasn't this originally supposed to be a Terminator game?
If so, the last boss certainly corroborates that rumor.
cormano64 It wasn’t a rumor. It was supposed to be so. In the game’s files, there is copyright text that has Terminator in it.
Also known as Journey to Silius.
Nice music) Longplay? It's more like speedrun!

You can't waste any of your health until you fight the bosses.
Wow what a great game for the NES when they used the full 8 bit. Sunsoft was a great company and made good games
one of the best NES Games made for the System.
Dude, u so skillful, awesome!
Very, very good!
This game is good
it's journey to silius
Yes it is! It is called raf world in Japan.
ScareScraper Totals of F2 16:11 Penguin Toadette
Sound effects sound just like the ones used in Fester's Quest. And that music is high quality NES jams
The title screen doesn't look like a title screen, it looks more like something you'd see on a students homework...
Looks very 90s, design wise. Also, antialiasing in a Famicom game title???
the music of first stage (from 3:02) is so similar the music Identity of x-ray spex. Crazyyyy...
This Japanese version of JOURNEY TO SILIUS has a different design for Jay that looks weird
player level: godlike!
Dat Sunsoft music tho.
Do I love the music!
For a longplay, this certainly didn't take long. XD
How did the japanese understand the intro?
I noticed the same thing in Castlevania II's Japanese version. English text. All English...
Cheater! You used turbo.
11:39 best bgm
This is a some amazing gameplay. It almost looks tool assisted.
It is.
Se parece un poco a Solbrain, sin embargo no llega a igualarlo.
excellent I could never finish that game
16 minutes??? o.O Cool!
Детство. Детство.
enemies can touch you and you dont get any harm?? Weird game. So similiar to Contra in some aspects and certain sounds.
Amazing player
JOURNEY TO SILIUS
Great!! gameplay
Only thing missing, an MMC5 enhancement chip.
Yes, it was.
raf world? I will never understand that name.
FAILCOUNT !!! It was a way to ensure the Japanese audience would properly say "Rough World", since the World in the game is Rough from devastation.
But I thought it was only called raf world in europe?
ehh,whatever
+FAILCOUNT !!! I think it translates to "Rough World"
+GullGet9 so damn right Mr :)
+FAILCOUNT !!! a little too raf
Wow !!!!!!!!!
How to tear apart another excellent videogame. I never was so happy to be a low skilled vgr in my life. Does UA-cam charge you a per-minute fee?
bellissimo gioco!!!!!
NOT an NES game as the title implies
Bob Jones it is an NES game.
Not NES, but Famicom. Technically the same console, just in a different region.

some sort of Google's trained AI/ neural network playing - it runs almost ahead of screen at times

that's sound track better than Snes?
or Sega...Sound Chip ? Yeah.....100time better.
Читер
TAS makes the games so boring... A real gameplay is so much better.
