Great to hear nobody got caught on the wrong side of that avalanche. Super important that everyone does their due diligence and take basic avalanche courses just for awareness. As always, great vid Lucas!
Glad everyone was clear of that. I learned the mountains deserve our deepest respect at Snowbird in 2006. Got swept over a cliff in a small sluff/slide and was by myself, even wearing a white jacket like an idiot. Got lucky that day and made my guardian angels work overtime for sure. Stay safe LC.
Super glad you weren't IN it! It's mind-boggling timing the fact that you literally got it on camera, out of all the time it could've happened and you could've been pointing your camera. We appreciate you sharing the details and glad no one was affected
I’d say perfect place at the right time, you were away from the avalanche and you were able to give valuable information to the patrollers. A great reminder that the mountain can be in charge of your life.
Mother Nature always wins. While taking our 3p last run at Snowbird, we got caught up in a nasty squall. It went from 20 degree Blue Bird to extreme cold and wind in seconds. Winds from nowhere went from zero to 65+ almost instantly. The windblown snow was so thick, you couldn't see your outstretched black glove directly in front of you. The winds were so loud we couldn't hear the person yelling in your ear. The snow was so thick we couldn't see to descend. And it was getting darker... Not knowing how long we'd be stuck on the mountain, I got the shovel from my backpack and dug a narrow trench just to get us out of the wind. We were lucky. We ducked the winds and 45 minutes later able to see well enough to ski down. In another 15 or 20 minutes and it would've been too dark to see anything. Since then, I've added pieces to my ski backpack just in case...
That was honestly one of the best videos of yours in a while. Thank you for filming that whole experience, it was really scary but really really cool and interesting how they dealt with it and how you were involved. Great work!
I'm from Iowa, and hearing someone refer to 106 under foot skis as narrow, just hurts my brain. Not a lot of mountains over here 😂 Glad to see no one was hurt in the slide.
All be it unfortunate but that was a neat quick insight into the world of ski patrol. They really are amazing. On the skiing side, so impressive how you make a 116 your ‘one quiver’ ski lol!!!!! Nice launch off that rock face 🤙
Lucas man this is Nicholas, I saw you on the lift right before the avalanche! I can’t believe the last thing you told me was how dangerous that exact area was!
@@LucasCatania17 🙏🤘 Seriously… text me what size will work for Luna (floor mat- if you see any you want - let me know - or else you get what you get 😂) Peace little bro 😎✌️
Cool to see an avalanche but scary at the same time. Glad nobody was hurt. This pass April 4th my buddy and I where in Scotts Bowl at PC and came across an avalanche that had already occurred. Wasn't huge maybe couple hundred yards long but at the bottom the snow was over our heads. It was a sight to see, just as long as nobody was hurt. Always a good video Lucas!
wow that was scary but good. i don't know what kind of avalanche training you have lucas but i would highly recommend taking one. i took one last year and it helps me feel safer when i am skiing side country or even back country. keep up the good work🤘

Saw your video and interview on Ch. 13 just now. Well done! Aside from the avalanche risks, what about this season so far! This winter deserves its own name. 🤔 what could that name be?
Crazy that you saw that today, it affected me a little because I was up at 9990 skiing on Saturday. But on a positive note, it was awesome that there was still so much snow up there!
Scary stuff in today's video. Great news that nobody was hurt, especially you. Must be both thrilling and humbling to witness an avalanche first hand. Stay safe. BTW, my thighs were burning just watching you shred!
It is scary when an avalanche happens in the boundaries of the ski resort. We were skiing Mammoth in 2020 when a huge avy broke off the top, traveled down to a main cat track. Talk about timing, we stopped to help a truck who was stuck in the parking lot. It delayed us by 5 minutes, otherwise we would have been up in that area. They shut down the lift just as we got to the front of the line. Unfortunately they shut down the whole mountain and the only powder run we got was back to the lodge. Waste deep powder too.
Hey Lucas, great video! Did you use your Hero 10 when you were filming the POV angles of your ride? The frame looks awesome, I am trying to figure out the right camera to get so it can fit the skis and my view in front. Thanks!
Everyone be careful out there! That persistent weak layer from the November dry spell is EVERYWHERE and the high winds and snow happening with the current storm are going to make the problem even worse. The next few days are going to be very dangerous, stick to low angle slopes and be conscious of exposure above if you do venture into the backcountry.
Dude- Your gonna hit 30K subs before 2023!!! (I can feel it in my bones...) Your videos are brilliant!!! Thanks again for sharing!!! I've been avalanched on 2 times while skiing inbounds. One was only 40x40 ft section of snow, and the other one carried us down the hill about 150 yards. I was just happy I did not lose a ski in the 2nd one. I think having the data is a nice addition for the Stoke Squad. I am curious Top speed at 61+ miles per hour!? Is that accurate? Catch you tonight on the live stream!
I watch a lot of Utah avalanche center videos. Dutch’s draw seems to claim quite a few lives. I’ve dropped one cliff and my sluff partially buried me. It took me 20 minutes to dig myself out. You don’t realize when your skis are on and buried it’s almost impossible to move. The thought of being completely buried is terrifying enough.
Do you know anything about the maintenance issues with Jupiter and McConkeys? Your videos have made me seriously stoked to be in Utah soon but it’s annoying that PCMR is still taking forever to open terrain again
I wish I could ski steeps as fast as he does...I always have to go a lot slower and pick my line and the slower you go on skis the less they want to help you.
